Chapter 31: Restless

Emily's Pov Barry had left my apartment even though it was hard to convince him that I was going to help Dominic gain his freedom back. I lay down on my bed that night thinking of what would have happened to me if Barry had not come to my rescue and it was all thanks to Dominic that I was still breathing. I needed to come up with a plan to help Dominic as quickly as possible because I wouldn't want to be labelled as a liar again. I miss Anita so much, and I couldn’t help but wonder how she would be feeling right now as she had been separated from her father again. In as much as I was doing my job as an agent, Dominic had been nothing but sweet to me. I couldn't hold down my feelings towards him anymore. I needed to keep to my promise this time. I stood up from my bed as I couldn't fall asleep with all these thoughts in my mind, plus the fear of having another intruder in my apartment. I walked to the kitchen which was still in a mess, and I opened the fridge. “shit!” The fri

Chapter 32: Hard Decision

Emily's PovMy eyes widened as Adams spread out some documents across the glass table in his office. The whole world stops spinning as I stare at the documents Adam had slid out."These are evidence proving Dominic is linked to various shell companies, "Adam explained, his voice firm and low. “In these documents, you will find out all about trails of money laundry and influences which lead to the death of your father.I shifted my gaze from Adam to the papers, my eyes narrowed. This can't be true, it's just another plot Adam has come up with to get me to turn on Dominic. "What do you think you’re doing? You know what, whatever it is you are selling, I am not buying any of it," I said with my voice firm but filled with a hint of desperation. "Look Emily, I know you think you know him well enough and that you love him, but you don't know the real Dominic. He is nothing but a manipulating bastard who will do anything to get what he wants". "This can't be true,'' I said in disbelief.

Chapter 33: Confrontation

Emily’s pov I sat in a dark corner of my apartment. My mind was filled with emotions, and my thoughts were racing with what I had uncovered from what Adam shared. I still didn’t want to believe that Dominic was involved in my father's death, for all I know or what I have believed was that my father died in the line of action while chasing a drug dealer. I never would have guessed that Dominic was that mafia who had murdered my father. Dominic betrayer cut deep. All the feelings I had growing for him were gradually turning into hatred, and I felt sick in my stomach for loving him and for not being able to recognize my father's killer. If this was true, and I have been prone to Dominic's game, then bringing Dominic and his entire network down would not be enough. I would have to destroy everything that he ever loved and cared for. As I mull over my next move, my phone buzzed on the bedside table. I delayed for a moment before answering the call. “Emily, it's Barry,” the voice fro

Chapter 34: Obsession

“Boss” Barry's voice ranged from the other end of the phone. “what have you got on Adam” I asked “Not much for now, but I have people working on it,” Barry said. “What have you been doing, Barry? Golfing around and playing the boss in my absence?“ “No boss” “I need that son of a bitch out of the picture already,” I said in range. “Okay boss, but that's not why I called” “Then why did you call?” There was silence on the other end, and I knew he was trying to not sound so offensive. “Speak up, Barry, don't waste my time”, I lashed out in anger. And then it dawned on me that all I had was time; I was in a frickin cell. “It's about Emily," Barry paused.” I don't think we can trust her with the plan to get you out” he spat out. I clenched my fist and tightened my jaw” What do you mean?” I uttered. My voice was barely above a whisper. “Lucas said something before I put a bullet in his head- “ Lucas?” I interrupted.“And what does that have to do with Emil

Chapter 35: The Plan

Emily pov It was around 8pm, I drove up to a deserted area and then stopped in front of an abandoned warehouse. It was the location where Barry had texted me to meet him. It was dark. I reached into my bag, took out a pistol, and hid it in my waistline at the back of my jeans trousers, covering it with my leather jacket. I came out of the car and looked around but I couldn't catch a glimpse of anyone around. I took out my phone and dialled Barry's number, just then I saw flashes of red lights coming from inside the warehouse. Barry answered the phone and in a cold tone, he spoke. ‘Walk towards the light’’ and before I could say anything he hung up. I hesitated for a while before following his instruction; I couldn't quite place mine on why he insisted we meet here in a deserted environment. I knew Barry didn’t trust me and that he wanted me dead, but I was certain that he wouldn’t harm me because Dominic had instructed him to protect me. As I walked in the direction of th

Chapter 36: Worst Night

After I left the warehouse, I stopped by a bar a few blocks from my apartment. I needed to drink. I needed to calm my nerves from all the tension I had felt while I was with the mafia gangs. Barry had proven to be nothing else but a bone to my flesh, I couldn't wait to get him out of the picture. If everything went well then I would be killing multiple birds with just a stone. I sat on a sofa in a corner of the crowded bar, I had escaped the eyes of incommers. Just then, a tall, skinny blond girl walked towards me. She held a smile on her face, but her eyes said otherwise. “Hello mam,” She said. “What can I get you?”She added, holding out a pen and a little notebook. “Get me two bottles of beer” I responded. She nodded and turned to leave. Just then as she walked past the table after mine, a man spanked her on her ass and pulled her to himself. She struggled to free herself from his grip. The man grinned and the other men on the table laughed. This site did something to me; I di

Chapter 37: Locked Out Of The Plan

Emily pov“What the hell, Adam?”I cursed, getting all worked up. “I could have shot you”, I added, placing my gun on the centre table in my living room. I had been on edge the whole evening since my meeting with the gangs, not to talk of my new foundling who had been hovering around me. And now only to come home and meet Adam. “Calm down, Emi, you seem so worked up”, He said, giving me a weird smirk. I don't know what was so important that would make him come to my apartment this late. But I wasn't ready for any chit-chat. I just wanted to get high, come home and fall asleep, but I guess tonight isn't all for me. “What are you doing here?”….. “How the hell did you even get in my apartment in the first place?” I questioned, feeling all irritated. “Come on, Emi, have you forgotten that this apartment was from the bureau, and I was the one who found and registered this apartment under a false name to be able to protect your cover?” He blurted out egotistically. “So that gave you t

Chapter 38: Unaware

Dominic Pov After my last encounter with Emily, I couldn't help but think of what possibly could be going on with her. She seemed a bit distracted and I sensed a bit of sadness in her. Ever since she left my holding cell, I have been wondering why she asked me this question, “Do you know my father?.” That question took me off guard. “I wonder what could be in her mind” I muttered under my breath. But the fact that she was here to visit me, even if it was just for a short while, meant everything to me. And the thought of her coming to tell me in person that she was working on something with Barry to help me gain my freedom, meant a lot to me. I couldn't wait to leave this hole. Things are not the same with the business in my absence. I couldn't wait to see my mother and my daughter Anita. I have missed her so much. I had earlier promised her that I wouldn't be away from her this long ever again, but it turned out I had broken my promise. I thought about Emily, myself and Anita i

chapter 39: The Transfer

Dominic Pov I wasn't aware of the transfer, no one had said anything to me. The whole day had been so quiet, I hadn't gotten any calls or visits. Even Derrick had been nowhere around the cell. I thought Emily was working with Barry to get me out, and now what? I am about to be transferred to a maximum security prison. I moved away from the door and went down on my knees while placing my hands backwards. The officer came in and placed a cuff on my hands. And then he and another officer helped me back on my feet. “Where's Derrick?” I asked after I had turned to the officers. “Does he know about the transfer?” “Oh! you mean the officer on your payroll, right?”Adam uttered with a chuckle. “What do you take me for? You think I don't see everything going around in this building….. That I let you play the role of a king in this place doesn't mean that you are one. I make the rules of this game.” He added. “Screw you, Adam, don't think for one that you have won…enjoy it while it

Chapter 40: Unforeseen

Dominic Pov We have been on the highway for eleven minutes since we left the prison. Every second that counts makes anxiety grow. I bit my lip hard in frustration. I hated the fact that I was in the dark. All I had now was expectations. I didn’t know what else to think about in this situation. My heart was beating hard and I could hear the sound of my breath. “Feeling scared already?” one of the officers mocked. “Don't worry you're going to fit in quite fine, after all that prison is meant for scumbags like you,” he added and then chuckled. I stared at him, smirked slightly, and then shrugged. I didn’t want to admit that he was right about me being scared. “Trust me, there's no one coming to rescue you; for all I know, your gang members must have already been on their way to the maximum security prison in handcuffs.” The officer shot again, only this time he let out a loud laugh. Whatever he was trying to do had worked, because his words had already gotten to me. Reality had sta
