CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

MARCELLA’S. POVI chose a tight fitting dress that ended just about three inches below my butt. It was a gold glittering dress and felt perfect for the night. My make up was quiet heavy with matching glitters on my eyeshadow. My hair dropped softly on my face with its bouncy curls making my head look a bit bigger than usual. If I was going to run the club, than I had to show up in grand style. I had stayed up all night finalizing my decision to work at the club or not. I spent the entire morning ransacking my closet in search of a dress that would fit my first appearance at the club as its new manager. I found none, hence I decided to order a dress!.I walked up to my dad at the study. “I need a card” I said once I barged in.“What for?” He asked without looking away from his laptop.“I need to buy a dress, I don’t have anything suitable in my closet” I replied.“Anything suitable for what exactly?” He asked still not taking his eyes off his computer, he seemed busy as he typed away

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

MARCELLA’S POVMy eyes remained focused on Lola. From behind the glass where I stood in the office, I could clearly see through her deceit. Her teeth appeared as she laughed at loudly at whatever my brother was telling her. I had seen her just once but I swear I could recognize here even in the dark. She brushed a hand over her bald head then rubbed her thighs as she laughed some more. ‘That’s not very ladylike’ I thought. I shut the blinds quickly on impulse when she turned her head towards my office as my brother pointed at it before remembering she couldn’t see me from out there.I felt like a coward for hiding behind the blinds to peep at this mysterious woman. I had suddenly become interested in knowing everything about her. Who she was, her past with Antonio, why she was really in town. I suddenly developed the strong urge to know all these. A loud tap on the door shifted me back into reality. A young lady stepped in, her head down as her eyes remained on the wooden floor.“E

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

MARCELLA’S POV I rushed quickly to the old man’s side, my brother leaned in to listen for breathing, there was none. He immediately started compressing his chest. “Shit!” I exclaimed. “Move!” Uncle Tee growled at me as he took over from my brother. People had gathered around us waiting anxiously for a miracle to occur, but the was none as the man lay still on the floor. “Fuccckk!” My brother exclaimed. “Just one night, you come here just one night and this happens” he said slapping his thighs in frustration. “Party is over, everybody out now, we apologize for the inconvenience” my uncle pleaded as the people started exiting the room. “Girls back to your hostels quickly” my brother yelled. Soon it was just us, two guards, and the dead man on the floor. I sat beside him quietly not sure what to do. “This is crazy, totally unbelievable. You could have just let this slide but no! You had to be your stubborn self here on your first day” my brother complained. “Its not my faul

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

ANTONIOS POV Two days had passed since Marcella drove off leaving me alone at the parking lot of the restaurant. I had called my burner phone over a hundred times hoping she would find it in the car and answer. I knew she was angry but I couldn’t tell why. I defended her before Lola, I ensured she wasn’t disrespected but she still found something to be upset about. Alvarez had kept an eye on her throughout and I even heard about the death at the club. Today I had asked Alvarez to refrain from following her. She had all the freedom in the world to do what she felt was in her own interest and I felt exhausted chasing her all over town. I had other equally important things to deal with and anytime I swore keeping focuse on my mission, she showed up and I push everything aside. This time I was determined to stay on track, the distractions had become too frequent. Marcella had become my weakness, I couldn’t resist the urge to keep my arms open to her even if I had a lot on my plate

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

MARCELLA’S POV “Where do you think you’re going?” My father asked when I came down the stairs. I threw him a confused look. “To work at the club of-course” I replied hastily. “You don’t have to go in today, Alejandro will run things in your stead” he said bringing his wheelchair closer to me. “Is this about yesterday?, don’t worry about it, I can handle myself” I said fishing out the car keys from my purse. He shook his head simply before asking out of the blue. “And when do you plan on returning the car to the owner” “Its mine now” I said with a chuckle. “The presence of this car in the manor is a security threat. I have ignored for long but its time to take it back” “How do I go to work then?” “One of the guys will drive you in and out of work. Don’t return with this car” he concluded and wheeled his chair away. I arrived at the club at about 2PM, I decided to come in early to see how things were before the crowd trooped in. It was quiet and bright, a few cleaner

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

MARCELLA’S POV I almost choked on my saliva when the detective asked suddenly. “Who’s office is this?” “Mine.” My uncle said stepping forward. “Is there a problem officer?” He asked. “None at all. I just want to know what work you do here” the detective asked. “Procurement stuff” uncle Tee replied. “…and this?” She asked stepping into the room that used to be alive with the smell of money and drugs. The space was now taken up by a huge mahogany desk, book shelves, water dispenser and all those fancy office stuff. It even smelt exactly like my brother’s perfume. “Mine” my brother responded. “…let me guess, HR?” The detective said. “Yeah, HR stuff” my brother replied. “I see, what kind of stuff” she asked running a hand along the wall and examining it after every step she took. “I believe your warrant is only to search this place and not to interrogate staff” my uncle said. He seemed confident in his response, as though he knew what he was about. “We have answered

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

MARCELLAS POV The club had just come to life with music, many people had started trooping in for some night fun. I on the other hand had just squeezed my way past the crowd to the parking lot. The night was still too young to go home and fortunately, detective Moretti and her team were long gone by the time the club opened. Every thing was back to normal, the growing crowd downstairs danced and chatted the night away oblivious of a whole different grade of business and pleasure going on upstairs. My confrontation with my uncle and brother about the underground hideout in the club didn’t in any way calm my thoughts. I needed to get out for some fresh air, Maya seemed uncertain how to lift my mood and I was uncertain how to ask her more about her job at the club without seeming nosy. So when she asked to return to work, I dismissed her quickly and leaving that conversation hanging for another day. The wind outside wrapped my body in its chilly arms once I stepped outside, I dug t

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

ANTONIOS POV I adjusted the rare-view mirror towards me, Marcella stood there still, her figure becoming a tiny dot as the car zoomed further away. I had come to learn that I cannot remain angry at her no matter how much I tried. I found myself pushing out all the cause of my displeasure towards her out of my head. The thought of leaving her here and going back to Spain took over my brain. “ its just a few weeks Bravta, we will be back before you know” Alvarez assured. “Yeah I know” I said shifting the mirror back to its place. We soon pulled up at the airport and went through check in. Within a few minutes, the plane was lifted of the floor and we were set towards Spain. The smell of lavender filled the air as i took in the surrounding of the hotel we had just lodged into. I decided against going home for the safety of my family, not only that though, but for my own peace as well. My mother wouldn’t stop ranting about my need to marry before my Abuela passes on and I didn

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

ANTONIOS POV We descended the last flight of stairs and took the alley back to the main Street. More onlookers had gathered along the street, their eyes fixed on us as we walked by. A sudden loud whistle echoed through the area. I stopped abruptly, my senses coming to life as I stayed alert for any sudden movement, there was none. Aside the heavy gazes on us, everyone seem to be standing still with no exaggerated body movement. “Something is off here” I said to Alvarez who placed a gentle hand on the side of his pocket that contained his gun. After a few seconds of stopping, we continued walking with slow steady steps, stealing occasional glances at the crowd along the street. We took a turn through a smaller and darker alley, it smelt of cigarette and urine, I wiggled my nose unconsciously. The path ahead seemed to get darker and narrower the further we went and suddenly, an army of men appeared before us, blocking the way ahead. My hand stayed tightly on my pocket, I excha

CHAPTER FORTY

ANTONIO’S POV A few heads turned in our direction when Alvarez and I stumbled into the hotel reception. My arm interlocked his as he leaned dearly on me for support. He had lost a lot of blood and was already drifting in and out of consciousness. The receptionist gave us a disapproving look. “Don’t worry he is just drunk” I said with a weird smirk as we made our way upstairs to our room. I lay Alvarez in the bed, its white linen quickly getting soaked with blood. I rushed to the bathroom and grabbed a few towels, I padded the wound. My hands trembled as I brought out my phone to call Dr Miguel, he was our underground doctor in Spain. “I’m out if town currently, I will be there in about three hours” he said over the phone. The man that lay before me didn’t have three hours, he didn’t even have Ten minutes. My brain gave me the wildest idea, and I begun scanning the room and our briefcases for anything I could use to extract the bullet. I had seen Dr Miguel do it a few times an
