121: DON’T GET TOO ANGRY

ELARA’S POV As much as I want to turn around and steal one last glance at him, I don’t. Because I can feel him. The burning intensity of his stare follows me as I make my way in the opposite direction, toward where Elliot is standing. For the first time tonight, he’s alone. Finally. “You having a good time?” he asks when I reach him. “Not as good as the one you’re having,” I mutter, a little smile tugging at my lips. “Is that so?” He glances at his watch, distracted. My eyes wander, searching the crowd. And then I find him. Powers. That’s what the man from earlier called him. His emerald eyes are locked on me. I don’t think Powers is his first name. But somehow, it fits him. With the way he carries himself, confident, commanding, completely at ease in a room full of people. He exudes power. And that name, Powers, wears him like a second skin. Elliot’s voice pulls me out of my trance. “Ready to go?” What? Right now? I blink, turning to Elliot. “Now?”

122: ITS WAS ALL A LIE

ELARA’S POV I take a slow breath, exhaling through my mouth. “I know it’s too late to be telling you this, and it probably doesn’t even matter anymore because it’s all over now, but I just need to get it off my chest—” “Elara, just go straight to the point.” Elliot’s voice is firm, his patience already wearing thin. I swallow hard, gripping the edge of my seat. “Nate and I were never really giving each other a chance,” I confess, breaking the silence that had started to settle between us. Elliot lets out a chuckle, “why are you picking now of all times to joke around I thought we’ve already sorted this out, I know You’re just engaged. ” he says later of factly. “I’m not” I state. He narrows his eyes at me for a few seconds. Elliot doesn’t respond right away, but I feel the shift in his smile had vanished. “The whole engagement, the entire relationship… it was all fake. We didn’t do it because we were in love or because we wanted to try again.” He blinks at me, his brows d

123: I KNOW HIM

ELARA’S POV The car ride home was calmer than I imagined it to be. Elliot wasn’t as angry as he was before, but judging by the way he kept slamming the brakes and taking sharp turns, I was seconds away from asking him to let me drive. Because the hospital is the last place I want to be right now. Elliot slammed the brakes and the car jerked. “We’re home” he mutters. I put a hand to my chest. “Was that necessary?” I ask with a frown. But my brother only shrugged smugly stepping out of the car. I rolled my eyes as I follow at her into the house. I brace myself, because for the next few days that attitude is what I’m probably going to be dealing with. For the next few days. *********** The next morning I did even see Elliot when I got ready for work, and I don’t receive any texts or calls from him sef he didn’t respond when I tried calling. But Later that evening, when I got home I could tell he was in a better mood when he ordered takeout for us. Not just any t

124: BUSINESS IS BUSINESS

ELARA’S POVThe moment my eyes landed on him, my breath hitched. He kept his words. We are actually meeting again. I try my best to keep my face straight, biting the little smiles that kept trying to takeover. “This is mr, Robert powers” Jenna says introducing us. Robert? His name is Robert powers? I could’ve nerve guessed that. “Its nice to meet you mr Robert” I say with a smile. “Its nice to meet you to miss Westwood” he says with a knowing smirk. But then when my eyes fall to the man sitting across the table… my smile vanished, the last person I was expecting to see here. Kyle freaking Sinclaire. He worked with my father years ago, on a project. And the last time I saw him.… No. I dont even want to relive those times.Kyles expression didn’t change when our gazes met. If anything, he looked completely unfazed like he was not the scum bag I knew, like he was exactly where he was supposed to be.I should be the last person he would want to partner up with. Judging the fact

125: RETURNED RING

NATE’S POV“We just got feedback from some of the investors, sir,” Dave said, placing a file on my desk. “They’re happy with the way things are going.”Of course, they’re happy. The diamond sets we had for preorder, that is supposed to launch at the Vegas grand opening next week, sold out in less than twenty-four hours. From that alone we’ve already made back the cost for production, and if things go as planed at this rate we will be able to make back the investment for the vegas office within months. For the past few days, I’ve been buried in work, making sure everything is going as planned. While planning for the next shipment thats coming in soon. The Vegas branch is going to bethe last project I’ll be personally involved in before stepping back. So I want everything to perfect. “Your flight has been settled, and Mr. Marcus said he’ll meet you at the airport,” Dave added.I nodded. For the first time in a while, Marcus and I are going to be traveling together. 126: THINK ABOUT IT.

ELARA’S POV“Okay, maybe you saw the wrong person, El,” Elliot says, biting back a laugh. He’s seated right across from me, amusement clear on his face.“I know who I saw, Elliot. I’m not blind,” I hiss.“You’re medically impaired, El. You use contact lenses, so yeah… you could’ve mistaken him for someone else.”I shoot him a glare. “I know what I saw, Elliot, and what I saw was Kyle Sinclair.”Maybe I should have told Gina about my encounter with Kyle instead. At least she wouldn’t be laughing at me like this.Elliot bursts into laughter, as if I just said the most unbelievable thing known to man.“How come? Kyle doesn’t just go to any meeting. He owns too many companies for that,” he says, shaking his head. “Even though I heard he has a lot to do with the Coles & Moles company when I ran a check on them… that guy has been closing billion-dollar deals left and right. He’s got too much on his plate. So, it’s a little shocking to hear that he came here.”Exactly my point!Kyle isn’t ju

127: TEN MINUTES LATE!

KYLE’S POV “Sir, I just got off the phone with the interior firm like you asked. She’ll be at the site in thirty minutes” my secretary, James, informs me through the phone. “Good. Tell Norman to get the car ready for me.” I place the phone back in its cradle, exhaling slowly. Working with Elara seemed like a good idea, at least on paper. Her portfolio was impressive, but I knew that long before she even decided to take interior design seriously. I’d seen snippets of her sketches back when I worked with her father. She was always around, offering unsolicited advices that nobody asked her for and the worse part is her father considered them. And that made my job unnecessarily harder. But personal annoyance aside, I need to be sure she’s the right fit for this. I need to see how she works. This project with Coles & Moles Construction isn’t just a one-off. It’s the first of many. I plan to build more estates, and I need an interior designer who is reliable and fast.

128: COLORS

KYLES POV. “Then prove it,” I say simply before turning on my heel, motioning for her to follow me toward one of the finest homes in the first estate we’ve built. The construction here is finished, but safety rules are safety rules. I grab two jackets and helmets, handing one to her. She takes the jacket and slips it over her blouse. I do the same with mine, but when I glance back at her, she’s still struggling with the helmet. It’s taking way too long. With an exasperated sigh, I step closer, gently pushing her hands away. “Here,” I mutter, clicking the strap securely under her chin. She blinks up at me in surprise, but I don’t think on it. We should’ve hired an interior designer for this project a long time ago, but every candidate either didn’t match our style or had too many other commitments. I need someone focused. No distractions. “This is a three bedroom home designed for a family of four,” I explain as we step inside. “We want it to have a cozy, welcoming atm

129: MR SCARED OF CATS?

KYLE’S POV My warning fell on deaf ears. She picked it up. She freaking picked it up. “Aren’t you a cutie,” Elara coos, cradling the little fur-covered menace in her hands. I take a quick step back. “Put it down.” But instead of listening, she grins and pushes it toward me. “Would you look at that?” I take another step back. “I’m not touching that.” She gasps dramatically. “Wait… Are you scared of cats?” “No, I am not,” I say firmly, keeping as much distance as I can. Her brows lift. “Then why did you just jump away like that?” “I didn’t jump—” “Oh, look, kitty, seems like the great Kyle Sinclair is scared of you,” she teases in a baby voice. The cat meows as if agreeing with her. “For the record, I am not scared of cats,” I grumble. “And I did not jump away.” I point at the thing still nestled in her arms. “That thing is dangerous.” She lets out a laugh. “Dangerous?” “To your health, yes,” I say, arms still crossed tightly. “You don’t know where it’s

130: STEPPING OUT.

ELARA’S POV “There was a mistake with the accounting,” Jenna says, placing two sets of clipped papers on my desk. “Sam was supposed to record it correctly, but she made an error. If you look at the total balance in the account and the balance in the transaction I sent you… it’s the same.” I frown, taking both documents and scanning them carefully. “It seems so,” I murmur. Sam needs to start double, checking things. And now? I feel bad for jumping to conclusions. I had doubted Jenna, even thought she might be stealing from the company. But the numbers check out. Maybe I was just being paranoid. Still… something about her just doesn’t sit right with me. She never seemed suspicious, and I didn’t find any actual proof against her. Yet, deep down, I still feel like something is off. Maybe it’s time I drop it and focus on more important things. I shake the thoughts away. “So…” Jenna leans in, eyes glinting with curiosity. “How was your visit to the Coles yesterday… y
