“It’s okay,” Alaric responds, his voice steady but tinged with something I can’t quite place—regret, maybe? “I shouldn’t have asked you to do something like that in the first place.” He runs a hand through his hair and sits down heavily as if the weight of the conversation has finally caught up to him. I open my mouth to reply, but he holds up a hand, stopping me. “However,” he continues, “I’d like you to think about it. Take a few days, let it sink in, and then give me your final answer." His words catch me off guard. For someone so direct, and so decisive, it’s surprising to hear him offer me time. “Okay,” I say hesitantly, nodding. “That seems reasonable." He leans back, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Great. Now, get some rest. Work starts tomorrow, and we have a lot to do." “Okay.
