Chapter 11 : Friend or Foe

*Gwen’s POV*Darick had finally permitted me to do something other than stay locked in a room with him, and as I walked down the hallway, I realized just how happy that made me feel.I made my way to the kitchen and was greeted by a young woman with brown eyes, long dark brown hair, and a beautiful golden sun tan. "Hi, I'm Isabella. You must be Gwen?" She set down a plate on the counter beside some half made food, and extended her arm to shake my hand as she approached me. Hesitantly, I took a few steps back. "Umm, who are you? And how do you know my name?" I replied as I raised my eyebrows. "I'm Viktor's girlfriend, and I—""I'm sorry,” I cut in. “Who is Viktor, and did you say you're his girlfriend? What kind of vampire cult is this?” I shook my head in disbelief and proceeded to exit the kitchen when her voice stopped me. "Wait!” she called. “I'm not a vampire!”My eyes widened as I spun around and her words entered my brain. "

Chapter 12 : Time to Meet the Gang

*Gwen’s POV*After breakfast, Isabella decided to give me a tour of the house and show me where I would be sleeping until Darick and the crew decided what to do with me. Honestly, I’m glad to know it wasn’t the room I was previously in. I wasn’t sure if, after everything, I’d sleep a wink in there. However, I was confident Darick wouldn't kill me, but I wasn't sure how life would work out for me living with vampires. And it was something I definitely hadn’t accepted yet, as I clearly strode alongside Isabella. Each moment I had to myself, I was plotting a way to escape. But in the meantime, Isabella's presence was a welcoming reassurance that I was in good hands, for now. "Come, let me show you the creepy library," Isabella said as she grabbed my hand. We raced up the winding staircase together. Once we landed at the top, Isabella let go of my hand and continued forward. But I didn’t immediately follow. My gaze cast upward and I realized that I hadn't notic

Chapter 13 : Heat Rising

*Gwen’s POV*Isabella had only been gone for less than 12 hours, and I was already starting to miss her. After the whole escapade in the living room the night before, Isabella told me that she and Viktor were supposed to go see her mother for the weekend. At first, I was jealous that she got to leave this place. None of what was happening to me was fair, but in some way, I wondered if it was karma taking her revenge. Soon enough, however, that feeling changed into happiness for Isabella. I knew firsthand what being cooped up here, unable to leave, was like. I wouldn’t wish that for her either. She deserved a nice weekend away. But in her absence, I found just how truly bored I was.'What am I to do in this huge, dark, depressing place?' I thought to myself as I roamed through the hallways. The less idle I was, the better. Too much alone time caused me to think of how much I missed Chelsea and my old life, and how I might be stuck in this place forever.

Chapter 14 : Plot, Plans & Obsessions

*Darick’s POV*I felt as if someone had punched me in the gut as I watched Gwen walk out the door. What just happened? Did we just almost kiss? No, no, no. What was I thinking, putting a blood oath on her? I don't even know her, and now, I'm tied to her forever.I grabbed my boxing gloves and excessively hit the punching bag. A surge of rage jolted through my body as I thought about the situation I found myself in.Why did she have to break into my house? I would have never met her had she minded her own damn business. Now she'd entered my life, and I couldn’t let her leave. If she wrote a story about us…we’d be done for. Vampires weren’t known to the general public and if they were to find out, it’d be an all out war—on the vampire and human sides. I grabbed the punching bag and rested my head against it. Sweat dripped profusely from my forehead. I could barely lift my arms, and upon lifting my head, I realized I put a small dent in the punching bag.

Chapter 15 : An Unwelcome Guest

“Gwen’s POV*After leaving Darick in the gym, I went to the kitchen and warmed up the leftover pizza Isabella had made for me before leaving. I tried to shake the events of what almost transpired between Darick and me, but I couldn't stop thinking about how good his body looked. I couldn’t believe I almost kissed a vampire—and the ringleader of a notorious mafia group, nonetheless. He was my captor, for crying out loud!So what had possessed me to do such a thing, and why couldn't I stop thinking about Darick? The way he gripped my waist caused me to want to rip his pants off and fuck him on the gym floor. I had never felt so secure as I felt in his arms. His words, "I am the danger," still rang in my ear, and despite knowing he was dangerous, I still wanted more. His eyes were enchanting, and he spoke with such authority that I felt like I was in a trance, desperately longing to heed his every command. He didn't need to put me under a blood oath to keep me under his c

Chapter 16 : This Means War

*Gwen’s POV*Amon’s black mohawk was spiked high on the top of his head and didn't move an inch as he thrust himself forward. The side of his head was shaved with what looked like cult symbols. "Hmm. You look delicious," he said, tracing his finger across my lips, down my chin, across my throat, and down to the bottom of my neck. All the while, his teeth tantalized my throat. "Please, I won't say anything to anyone about you being here," I pleaded, hoping my promise would cause him to leave. "Do you think I'm afraid of anyone in this house? Do you know anything about me or vampires, girl?!" Amon pulled the back of my hair, forcing my head back. His eyes bore into mine and transitioned into a dark red, illuminating his distinct, sharp jaw. "Enlighten me,” I stated. I wasn't asking because I was intrigued. I was asking because I was hoping to keep Amon talking, either to find out more information about him to store away for later, or in hope that someone would overhea

Chapter 17 : Gwen’s Blood

*Gwen’s POV*It took a while for me to come to again—my body was weak, depleted. I could barely feel anything. But I could hear, gradually, and when it all came into focus, I saw Darick’s eyes, staring at me, brilliantly."Hit bit her! That fucker bit her! I'll kill him, dammit!" Darick leaned over me and examined my wound. He was bleeding all over, and small droplets from his body spilled onto my chest. I opened my mouth to speak, stopping Darick in his tracks. But nothing came out. He waited, frantically, as I tried again. When I spoke, it came out gravelly, and sharp."I-I'm burning, Darick. My whole body feels l-like it's on fire. You have to get me to a h-hospital,” I pleaded. I grabbed Darick's arm and placed all my focus on his eyes. "Please, don't let me die." At this, Darick lifted me in his arms and raced to the cellar. Over his shoulder, I saw Viktor trailing close behind us. I had never been in the cellar, but I remember Isabella letting me know it was whe

It took everything in me to pull away—to leave her there…No! Caring for her would endanger both of our lives. I had to pull myself together. I grabbed my black outfit and walked to the mirror. I wondered if maybe Gwen was here for a reason. Out of all the women in the world who could have broken into my home, it was her. A gorgeous journalist with pure blood, blood so pure it could reject a blood oath. In the wrong hands, it was dangerous. In the right hands, it could save lives.A knock on my bedroom door startled me out of my daze."Darick, We need to have a meeting. The men are fighting am

Chapter 19 : The Trial

*Darick’s POV*No one moved a muscle as they waited for Amber to regain her composure and deliver her verdict. But when she did, all heads snapped to Godfrey—fangs bared and eyes red.Godfrey growled. “You bitch!” he yelled. Then, his attention turned to me. “I did what I had to save the Blood Brothers! Darick has lost his way and is no longer fit to be our leader. I invoke the Vampire Articles of Confederation!" Godfrey turned and looked at me with an evil smile on his face. I froze in my spot. "You what?" I knew exactly what he meant but I wanted to make sure I had heard correctly. The look on his face only confirmed it—he was doing this. The Vampie Articles of Confederation stated that under any circumstance in which the leader of any congregation can have his abilities questioned, he can be challenged, and with the right amount of votes, ruled out.And now, Godfrey was enacting it, essentially starting a war between the Blood Brothers. "Yeah, that's right,”

Chapter 20 : I Did It for You

*Darick’s POV*Shit, shit, shit. The one thing I didn’t want to happen, did. I ran after Gwen as she raced down the hallway. "Gwen. Please, wait," I grabbed her arm and turned her toward me. "Darick, I promise I won't say anything, just please let me go." Her hands were shaking, and she looked frightened, her eyes wide with fear."Gwen. I'm not going to hurt you," I whispered. I turned and saw Viktor staring at me. Godfrey's blood was still dripping from the stake. "He doesn't like me much. Does he?" Gwen said as she lowered her gaze. I looked back to see Viktor’s eyes on her, and once they saw me staring, they adverted and he continued to help clean up the mess I left behind.I sighed. "Come with me,” I stated. “I want to show you something." I grabbed Gwen's hand and led her to the library. She was silent the entire way and part of me expected her to run—but rather, she kept close to me, and trailed behind me. "It's not that Viktor doesn't like you. He
