Sold off

"She is my daughter. Take her and clear my debt like you promised" Paul Anderson roughly pushed his young and beautiful daughter Serra towards Robert Jenkins. Serra was shocked and scared. She stumbled and fell near Robert Jenkins feet. The man who is easily older than her father. She looked at Paul with shock. Nothing is making any sense to her. She is not the most beautiful girl in the room. Her too big glasses and her braces would not agree. Still, she doesn't know why her father is doing this and how these people are taking her away from her father. "Dad? What is happening here?" she asked shakily. Fear and confusion evident in her tone. Paul is a single parent and is a gambling addict. Serra's mother left them when Serra was just five years old. Room

"We are sorry Ms. Johnson, it's been a month since the classes started for the freshman. So all the dorm rooms have been allotted to other students. As we didn't get any mail from you, we just assumed that you might not join us this semester. We can try to accommodate you the next semester for a dorm room. You can attend your classes this semester though. But I am afraid you have to find a place to stay for now" the student coordinator of the Chicago University said with a hint of pity. Serra's shoulders slumped feeling dejected. She escaped from that hell, but its effects are still haunting her. "Here is your class schedule for this semester" the coordinator handed over some papers to help Serra to catch up with the concepts she missed so far. "Thank you" despite her situation, Serra thanked the coordinator before leaving the campus. Once outside the campus, she found a bus station and sat there alone holding her luggage. So many people walked past her, and every one ignored her.

Tease

The next morning, Kyle woke up to the most mouth watering aroma and the small sound of shuffling foot steps and clattering pots and pans. Immediately he picked up his gun and stealthily walked out of his room, ready to attack. But when he entered the kitchen, he found Serra who was working on breakfast. He almost forgot that she came with him last night. He paused when he heard her humming some tune. He quickly hid his gun before she could see. Her voice is soft and smooth. He noticed that she was not wearing her ugly glasses. They cover half her face and make her look older than her age. "What's your name?" he asked while leaning against the kitchen wall. 'Brother really found someone who look so innocent to keep me occupied and out of his way. I need to tell him that I have seen past his plot' he thought to himself. His voice startled her and she dropped the spatula she was holding. He looked amused by her reaction. She turned to look at him with wide eyes, before she lowered h

Overwhelming

Serra found herself feeling out of place. The kids in the school are all looking at her strangely. Because neither her clothes nor her appearance look appealing. Her clothes are old and washed one too many times. Her hair is pulled out into a bun. Her glasses kept slipping past her nose constantly. "Oh my gosh, who is she? Doesn't she look like a scarecrow?" one of the kids commented, not even bothering to keep their voices down. Serra was never pretty. She always preferred to stay alone, because she was constantly bullied even in high school. Now, surrounded by so many people who are all strangers, and look like models, she started to feel intimidated and scared. "She is so ugly" "Oh my, was she thinking that it's Halloween and dressed up as a witch?" "She will give nightmares if we look at her at night" As their comments became bolder and cruel, Serra rushed away from there and hid herself in one of the ladies washrooms. She pulled her glasses away and wiped at her tea

Looks

"You were crying" it is an observation. Serra hastily shook her head, but couldn't find her voice. Kyle narrowed his gaze on her ugly glasses which are covering her beautiful eyes from the world. He simply pulled her glasses off and threw them into the nearby trash can with one clean throw. Serra was stunned. "Hey, that was the only pair I own" she protested and tried to fetch them back. But he grabbed her by her elbow and dragged her out of the bathroom without giving her a chance to take them back. "You don't need them. They look better in the trashcan than on you. Let's go. I will take you to your first class" with that said, he casually wrapped his arm around her shoulder. He is sweaty from his football practice session. His hair is wet, along with his sleeveless Jersey. He is filled with a woodsy masculine odour, which teased her senses."You stink" she mumbled under her breath, not at all liking his bossy attitude. But still grateful that he is taking her to her class ins

Not believing me

"Sorry, I was distracted" Serra confessed feeling embarrassed. Kyle grinned mischievously. "You are so distracted just by looking at me that you burned your finger?" he teased her. He found himself loving the red tint of her cheeks when he teased her. She blushed at his words. He is the most handsome man she has ever seen so far, and it's not easy to avert her gaze from him. But today she is not distracted by his handsomeness. "No no, I was thinking about what happened today on campus" she shared. He frowned. Being bullied on her first day is not a memorable incident. So he gathered that she might not be thinking about that. "What happened?" he inquired casually. He leaned casually on the wall beside him and folded his arms. The simple move made his biceps bulge, showing his impressive muscles. "After my class today, almost everyone wanted to know how I know you. The same people who said that I might give them nightmares approached me to talk about you" she shared. He
