"You are kidding, right?" Carol stares at the monitor, her breath catching as she watches the tiny, unmistakable image of a baby on the screen. Her baby. "Is this some kind of prank? At first, I thought it might be because of your medication, but when I called your doctor, she said it was unlikely." "I didn’t notice anything," Carol mutters, her trembling fingers tracing her belly as though she’s feeling it for the first time. "And now you’re telling me I’m pregnant? And almost ready to give birth?" She presses her lower abdomen hesitantly, her heart skipping a beat at the unexpected firmness. A chill of realization washes over her.
