Demi's pov A king should be an example. One who was firm, just, and morally upright. He shouldn't be one to make harsh decisions or engage in oppressive actions. He should be rational and not be caught fighting except otherwise and most importantly he shouldn't be perceived as weak. And in just one night, Eros broke almost all these rules all because of me and now we were at a table in an enclosed room. The only familiar faces I knew were those of Elara, Dmitri, Eros, and Anya. The rest faces were foreign, they looked older and also very important and they weren't too happy and I could tell with the gazes that were sent in my direction. "So we are trying to understand what is going on here?" It was one of the older men that spoke, "Can you explain your majesty?" The man's question was directed at Eros but his gaze was locked on me and I cowered a bit in my seat. "Face me." Eros growled, his voice was grave in a threatening way, "I can smell her fear, don't look at her, d

Anya's pov Fate hated me. It was against me as well as all odds of the situation and there was nothing I could do about it. No matter what I had tried, my conceived plans being carried out only brought them together and now there was going to be a duel, two men fighting for the woman I hated the most like she was some goddess that men died for. And these ones were actually willing to die for her. She looked like a woman who should be taken captive during war and enslaved with torture and not women who men went to war for. The hatred I had towards her had brewed significantly during the past few hours and I could only wish her death. I wished upon her death with pain from the deepest cursed parts of hell. I couldn't believe what was happening and I knew that Dmitri fighting Eros without Eros's powers still wouldn't deter Eros from winning as he looked so determined to win his mate. He had finally found a way to prove his sincerity to her and nothing was going to stop him. "N

Demi’s pov There wasn’t a particular reason for my stench, so if someone were to ask why I stunk, I couldn’t quite pinpoint but if I was asked to explain on a broader level, I would be able to give various reasons. I often wondered why my persistent odor still hadn’t gone even after being here for months and bathing regularly, getting on a few hygiene products and perfuming. Every other thing was changing, my wounds were healing and I looked better but the stench was still an issue that set me back on my progress to maintaining confidence. I wasn’t surprised when Elara called me aside after the meeting, she had explained that I would be moving to the other side of the pack since I had to be away from Eros and Dmitri as the rules state that neither of us was to see each other before the fight. And after she moved me in, she asked me about my stench and its origin. I have been deprived of baths for long, had poor hygiene situations even when on my period with the blood caking to

Demi’s pov I could feel Haris’s hand at my back, his palm rubbing small soothing patterns to calm my disorganized state while he offered words of comfort and while I was there, sprawled over the bathroom floor wearing my vulnerability and self-disgust like a second skin, my fingers shakily tapped at my phone screen dialing Bopha. “Hey babe.” she greeted excitedly the moment she picked up the phone, “Are you ready for today?” “Bopha.” I groaned in pain, my nasal congestion revealing itself as the odor clogged my nostrils. “What happened?! Are you alright?!” Her voice broke through the connection, “Don't move, I am coming right away.” The call ended and I dropped my head against the tile, its cool contrasting with my sweaty feverish skin as I registered that in all my life, I had never smelt this bad and it was like I had smelt worse than before. I shook my head and noticed Haris getting up and rushing to the sink. He picked up a small towel and ran to my side again. “Sorry sis.

Demi's pov The moment the horn was blown, both wolves swung into action and my eyes were keyed on them. Dmitri's dark wolf transported himself to the center before Eros's could reach him and he bent his head, a blast of light sweeping across the field, throwing Raphael, Eros's wolf with so much force that he landed with this back against the wall, sliding down to the ground. I gasped, just as others did and the victorious howl that came from Dmitri's wolf pierced my hearing making me reflect on how partial he was, fighting against Eros with his powers while Eros had been stripped of his. Come on mate, Harlyn cheered silently, you can do this! It was like Raphael had heard Harlyn cause a low guttural growl came from him and he stood up slowly, eyes going to us, his gaze locking on mine and what looked like a wolfish grin came from him before he turned around, and broke in a full run heading for Dmitri as if our little interaction had just fueled him. Dmitri'

Demi’s pov I watched in horror, seeing my mate fall to the ground in defeat while feeling the pain he was suffering. Dmitri's wolf didn't stop there. He let out a victorious howl, kicking Eros's wolf to the side with extra strength. "This is bad." Bopha whispered clutching at my hand as she tried to soothe me, "It isn't fair. He's fighting as a normal wolf and Dmitri is fighting with all his powers." I didn't have anything to say as the pain I was feeling numbed my words and so I could only stare while saying silent prayers that my mate should survive this. The announcer blew the horn signifying that the fight was coming to an end since Eros's wolf wasn't getting up and I could hear the murmurs from the crowd, gazes in my direction. Not only was the question of who I was ending up with at stake, but the throne was also at stake as Eros had agreed to Dmitri's terms. One wrong move could turn the kingdom upside down. I wanted to scream at him to get up and fight but the urge to

Demi's pov News spread faster than wildfire, in different versions, recounting the happenings of the weekend. While I never heard from Dmitri again, the rumors traveling around my existence and origin or what was so special about me didn't bother me either as my mate was still unconscious even after two days of trying to bring him back. His breathing was steady but his eyes had refused to open. I had heard Elara and Bopha as well as the healers arguing about whether my presence contributed to his worsening state but I didn't care much for that as my mind was always on trying to get Eros to heal as well as taking care of Haris. He was glued to my side as always, calming me down and telling me made-up fantasies of the activities that we would do when Eros was finally awake and he tried his best to cheer me up. I often found myself softening up and playing with him but the moment he was asleep or I was alone, my eyes welled with tears at the thought of my mate's state. I had hea

Demi's pov I hadn't seen her since after the fight, I didn't know if she had been around or not and maybe she was, lurking around always but I was too busy focusing on my mate to know who was present and not. And now she was before me, lips offering a smile but eyes still glowing with disdain. She looked gorgeous as always but this time around, it wasn't enough for me to feel inferior to her and self-conscious as the weight of Eros's well-being had bore too much on my mind. I didn't want to speak to her, I tore my gaze away and moved to leave but I felt her hand on my arm, fingers tightening around my flesh, grabbing me and pushing me back. "How is he?" The smile was still plastered on her face, "Is he alright?" "My mate is doing very fine, thank you." I could see the surprise in her eyes laced with jealousy at my brazenness and my gaze went to her hands, fingers tightening like she wanted to punch me. "Do not try anything, Anya." I raised my voice a bit,

Demi's pov Sadly, for the very first time, I realized that Anya didn't lie. Even if I desperately wanted it to be a lie, I wasn't. As I stalked down the hallway with the slowest steps I have ever taken, I recalled the events from my meeting Eros, and with each evolving scene, my chest constricted, my heart beating erratically. From the moment he found me, from looking at me fondly in the forest to shying away, the other wolves taking stances seeing me as a threat to him. The red patches on his skin when he touched me, the way he avoided me and how he always sneezed when around me, his sudden disappearance when we first met, he had been sick from meeting me, I made my mate sick. I wondered what might have caused his condition and aggravated it this much if there was a cure for it. For the causes, I couldn't think of anything but for the cure, I knew that if there was one, they would have gone ahead with it by now but here he was, still stuck with the condition while I, his mate,

Demi’s pov Eros's fingers trailed around my arm, the pads of his fingers slightly grazing the scars he found but I didn't flinch, I enjoyed how he grazed and suited them, making me feel those sparks. "You lied Bambi." He whispered softly making my heart skip beats, "In as much as you have kept a lot from me that I want to know, I can tell that you lied." "Eros..." "Shhh." I could tell that he was smiling, "I am trying to be patient with you, you aren't a rogue, you ran from someone, an ex-mate perhaps, or abusive parents?" I didn't answer, I was tongue-tied and bridled with shock at his discovery and I just let him as he moved, pulling me slightly away so I could sit up and he could as well, his arms were around me, beautiful greens holding my gaze, "I am sorry." "For messing up and- I am sorry, my excuse would seem minor but I couldn't help it." He spoke ardently, words cut clean bearing a softer side to him, "I want to be with you no matter what." Even to the detriment of you
