Shifting Sands

Sebastian's POV"Boss, they are here," Annabel uttered. A meeting was arranged with some investors regarding a building project. I needed to expand my company's reach, and a deal with them would surely put that into action. "I'll be right there, Annabel. Just a sec," I said, watching Annabel leave after. As my hand reached for my laptop, I had some information to check, details I had ordered to be sent to me once done. Dr. Danielle Matteo, a businessman—well, a doctor in the eyes of many, but I know what goes on there. I had hoped for a proper and beneficial deal with him. I had ordered tight monitoring on him, but damn, just like the rest, he proved to be nothing more than a crook out to betray me, acting up in the name of loyalty. I see through it all. Well, this would surely be his loss. I will play his game; I shall make him think he's one step ahead of me when actually, he's far behind. I'm still in need of some dealings with him, and once I'm done, I'll make sure to shut him up.

Fury and Fragility

"Yeah, boss, our truck, the one delivering our goods, was involved in the bridge accident. Five trucks were passing through the bridge, and four of the drivers are dead, boss.""They are what? What about the goods, Annabel? What about the goods?""The goods all got burnt up in the fire; they are all destroyed, boss.""They what? What are you telling me, Annabel? How? How can they all be burnt up? Why, why the hell did this occur with my goods getting destroyed?"I couldn't believe what she had just told me. The goods were worth thirty million, and they all got burnt up in the accident? How so?This couldn't be happening. How can this be happening? Such a loss..."Boss...? Boss, are you there?""Wait, you mentioned four of the drivers are dead; then what about the driver driving the fifth truck?"I questioned. At least he was safe, which means the truck he was driving was absolutely safe, too."Well, he is alive, boss. We were just informed that he had been rushed to the hospital for t

Fractured Bonds

Scarlet's POVMy eyes snapped open as I slowly sat upright on my bed. It seemed I had beaten my phone alarm today, only to notice Sebastian still asleep by the side of the bed—a reminder of last night.I quietly got up and headed to the bathroom to wash up and get dressed before leaving the mansion. I needed to check on my mom at the hospital; I hoped she was doing better because I needed her to. Now that Dad was gone, the least I could do was be there for her. I couldn't lose my mother too, having lost my dad forever, and his love.I took a gentle sip of my morning coffee as I left the mansion, driving straight to the city hospital. My phone buzzed while I was driving; it was Alexander. I was sure it must be about the project and all, considering that I hadn't informed him of my absence. I imagined the shareholders must be really angry since I was supposed to oversee the project, and i wasn't around yesterday.I wouldn't be able to make it today either; I just had to explain things t

Silent Wounds

My phone buzzed, retracting my glance as I glanced at it—Alexander.   I wasn't able to pick up his call earlier, so I guess I better inform him about the issues and reasons for me not being at work today.   I took one last look at my mother, who had just regained consciousness and was trying to sit up, as I slowly left her ward, walking to the side to answer the call.   "Hi, Scarlet." His voice came through.   "Good morning, Mr. Alexander. I'm really sorry for my absence at work yesterday and today. Some things came up, and I'm really sorry if I've caused any issues with the project progress..." I uttered, laying out an apology.   "It's okay, Scarlet. I heard about the news of your parents; I'm really sorry, Scarlet. I understand if you have to t

Revenge in Motion

Sebastian's POV The buzz from my phone caused my eyes to spring open, a slight spinning pain in my head from the drinking last night. It took a moment to recall last night's incident with Scarlet and her sobbing state. Her parents? Dead. And on the same bridge, an accident caused by that bastard... If I wanted him to pay, I had to get things done myself. He would surely pay for what he had cost me—for every single bit of it. I gently stood up from my bed, walking down the stairs, trying to maintain my balance as I sat down on the couch. "Eloise!" I called out to my maid as she gently approached me. "Get me coffee," I requested, watching her leave. I needed to get my head in shape, gosh.  Not long after, my maid brought the coffee, which I drank at a warm temperature, releasing a gentle sigh as I stood up. With my eyes fully clear, I made my

Worn by the Weight

Arriving back at my company, I stepped out of the car, tossing my car keys to my driver, who awaited my presence, standing at the company entrance. I rarely allowed him to drive me when it came to my underground dealings. Trusting anybody with that, mostly my driver, would be a mistake I couldn't even think of making.I walked straight toward the elevator, which took me to my office floor. As I got out after it had opened, I made my way straight to my office, entering and sitting down, relaxing a bit before I grabbed my phone, calling up Annabel. "Come to my office now, Annabel," I uttered, hanging up the call. Not long after, I received a knock. "Come in," I said, receiving Annabel's presence. "You had called for me, boss.""Yeah, Annabel, what meetings do we have scheduled today?""Well, we have a meeting with some organization regarding a project they are on, as they hoped to fix up a deal with us in supplying of the materials they would be needing.""Isn't it the same organization

Shadows of the Past

"What do you think you're doing? How can you even do this? He's my uncle, and you had the guts to have an affair with him?" my dad yelled, his words echoing loudly in the room. "And what did you expect? I loved him, and who cares if he's your uncle? You speak of betrayal, but what about the women you take around? The same ones you call friends; you think I don't know what's going on between you all?" "Are you really serious? But how could you? Even if you had to, why did you choose my uncle? How could you do this without even a single regretful thought?" "I don't regret my actions. We both knew the love between us ended many years ago, and the only reason we're still together, acting out this drama, is because of our son..." My mom replied, her words hitting me hard. I was sitting at their doorstep, my ears slowly picking up their argument. "And which son do you speak of, anyway?

A Fragile Resolve

Scarlet's POV   I glanced at my phone as I slowly stood up, sitting on my bed.   My mom had finally been discharged last night. Her face still had a sorrowful look, her gaze dropping.   Even though she was doing alright medically, I knew things weren't okay with her. She had just lost my dad, and it all felt like a lot for her to handle.   I just hoped she would overcome it soon. I hoped she would get back to herself and that things would fall into place.   Standing up from my bed, I made my way to the bathtub, freshened up, and got dressed.   Walking slowly out of the mansion, I tried to maintain my mood and bring back the old me, but it all seemed hard after what had happened in the past few days.

Claiming Her Right

Despite her resistance, her reminders of not loving me, I cared less. All I wanted was to be with my mother at this moment. My hands reached for the door as I took a deep breath before knocking. I awaited a voice or the sound of the door opening, my hands gently cradling each other, my fingers fidgeting. Remembering the possibility of encountering that witch again, I knew she would create a scene and perhaps try to prevent me from seeing my mom. But I wouldn't give in to her this time. Last time we were at the hospital, so she had her chance, but this time was different. Things wouldn't play out as she had imagined. But first, I needed to get my mom on my side, to see that witch for who she truly was. I doubted my mom would have gone out given the

The Hunt for Gregor

Sebastian's POV   I stormed out and got into my car, driving off immediately. Finally, I had a lead on Gregor's whereabouts, and I'd make sure this worker spilled out where he was hiding. Once I found that bastard, I'd make him pay. Darius did a great job catching one of Gregor's workers, even though it wasn't Gregor himself. It would still work.   As I drove on, I arrived at the location, my eyes darting around before I slowly got out of my car and walked towards the basement. On the way, I saw Nikolai's men positioned with their guns in hand; I was sure Nikolai was here as well.   Upon arriving at the scene, I spotted Gregor's worker tied to a chair with duct tape over his mouth. His face was covered in wounds, indicating he had been punched or questioned. I was certain he must be in pain, but I would show him true agony if he didn't give up
