Chapter Sixty One

JAREDI watched with a heavy heart as Avery and Riley stepped through the portal, its closure echoing through the space. Sighing, I turned away and headed to my suite. Avery's scent enveloped me, and I closed my eyes, relishing the memory. Her absence would be difficult, but I was determined to retrieve her soon.As I entered, a different scent caught my attention. My brows furrowed, as I turned toward the cellar. There, my father sat alone, drinking. "Why are you here?" I demanded, approaching him.He ignored my question. "I heard she left.""Yes, she did. Are you satisfied now?" My tone dripped with disdain."Stop talking to me like that," he snapped. "She chose to leave, and I'm glad she stood by her word.""What do you mean? You didn't meet her, did you?" I asked, suspicion growing."What if I did?" He countered, a smirk spreading across his face, which increased the anger in me"What the fuck did you say to her?!" I spat out through gritted teeth.He shrugged. "Didn't say much;

AVERYThe next morning, I got dressed in black sweatshirt and blue jean pants before heading downstairs."Are you ready?" Riley who was already waiting downstairs asked and I nodded. We left the house, heading to the garage where three set of car were. We got into the black one, setting off onto the road. She showed me the gyms, restaurants, laundry shop and many other places around the area. The places were no different from the werewolf world.After the whole tour, Riley needed to go to the company. She offered to drive me home first before going to the company, but I declined. She was probably busy and I also wanted to look for a job so it was best she dropped me off."Take my card." She took a card out of her bag and I collected it, my eyes scanning through it. "Call me or come to the address on the card if anything happens. It's the company address." She added."Will do." I mumbled a response and opened the car door, ready to leave, but she stopped me. I turned to her with my br

Chapter Sixty Three

I woke up to the ringing of my alarm which I set for 7am. I would resume work at the cafe by 8am then close by 2pm after my shift ends. I had forty minutes to get ready and fifteen minutes to take a cab to the cafe.Leaving my bed, I couldn't help but feel enthusiastic about today's work. It felt nice to work again after doing nothing but just staying idle this past few months. I was used to working, not lazing around - that is a fact. I rushed through my bath, dressing in loose pants and a baggy t-shirt. My hair went up in a quick bun as I grabbed my small cross bag and headed out the door."Good morning, house!" I called out, descending the stairs with a spring in my step.Riley looked up from the dining table, waving at me with a spoonful of cornflakes. I settled opposite her, mirroring yesterday's routine."You sleep well?" Riley asked, her eyes crinkling.I nodded, serving myself cornflakes. "Did you?""Yep." Riley's response was curt, but her gaze lingered, Soni raised the ques

Chapter Sixty Four

As I prepared to leave my office, my phone beeped in my pocket. I pulled it out, and my gaze hardened at the sight of Riley's message. It was a photo of Avery in a cafe uniform, serving customers, made I swiftly dialed Riley's number, my jaw clenching as I waited for her to pick. Few seconds later, she picked and I immediately raised my question."What's with this picture?" I demanded, my voice low and urgent. "Why is Avery serving people?""She's working at a cafe." Riley responded with a chuckle. My skin tightened out of anger as I walked out of the office, my phone still on my ear."Why is she doing that?! I snapped.Riley's tone remained light. "Are you angry?""Get her out of there now!" I growled.Riley's response was calm. "Why should I? She wants to work.""She doesn't need to," I argued. "I gave her enough."Riley countered, "Maybe she doesn't want your money. She's not with you anymore."I made to speak, but a voice I could recognize anywhere interrupted."Are you done?" I

Chapter Sixty Five

"You're actually a liar," a voice interrupted from nowhere. Immediately, we all turned to see Javier standing up from his seat situated behind the girls. He walked over to stand beside me, his presence a surprise. "I heard you order croissants, not cake," he said, his words met with astonished looks from the girls as they exchanged glances. The outspoken one scoffed, "Who the hell are you to butt in?!" "That doesn't matter. But if you made a mistake, you could've owned up to it instead of trying to blame her." Javier replied, and the girls stood up, their faces red with anger. "You're crazy!" one of them shouted, trying to storm off, but I blocked her way. "You haven't paid yet." They glared, but I just smiled and gestured to the card reader. The girl huffed, threw her card at me, and I caught it with a smirk. I deducted the bill and returned it back to them. "Here you go." I said, stretching out the card to them and they snatched it back, still glaring at Javier and me

Chapter Sixty Six

"Are you crazy!" a shrill voice pierced the air, making me jump. I swiftly lifted my gaze to locate the source of the outburst. That's when I saw her – a girl with a furious expression, her eyebrows knitted together in a deep scowl."I'm so sorry." I apologized immediately but she snorted. "Sorry for yourself! Are you blind?!""Oh, I think you are taking this too far." I spoke up, the calmness in my voice depleting."What? Hey! You bumped into me!""And I said I'm sorry!" I snapped and she chuckled. "Who is this damn pauper?""Pauper?" A voice sounded and I looked ahead to see Riley. She was with a guy. Riley came forward to where we were and before I knew it, she slapped the girl. I gasped as the girl's head turned to the left."How dare you talk to her that way? Do you know who she is?! Pauper? You're the pauper here cause she is literally above you all!" Riley yelled.I flinched, staring at Riley with slightly widened eyes. This was my first time seeing her this angry. Even when s

Chapter Sixty Seven

TWO MONTHS LATERAVERY"Thanks for the ride. Goodnight." I waved at Javier as I leaped out of the car. I waved at him, watching him drive away.This past two months, Javier and I had gotten closer. I discovered he was cool to be with so why not, but we are nothing more than friends. I had also gotten a new job as a server in a bar. I got bored staying at home after finishing my job at the cafe so I decided to get a new job and that was the only one I could find. They paid more too so it was quite okay. My job at the bar was also cool; I learnt to mix some nice liquor, and I enjoyed it. At first, Riley didn't support me working at bar but she soon gave up and let me do my thing.Javier had just picked me up from the bar after I closed by 8. He said he was close by so he decided to pick me up and I took it with gratitude.As I walked into my eyes, my eyes landed on Riley who was surrounded by boxes and some items. She was currently wrapping a box, but she glanced up at me."You're back.

Chapter Sixty Eight

"Avery!""Avery, wake up!"The loud voice of someone shouting made my eyes flutter open slightly."Who is that?" I mumbled with slightly opened eyes, but I was hit softly by the butt."Wake up already, you've been sleeping for the whole day." Riley's voice hit mg wars, but I was too tired to care. I just want to sleep more.Without answering her, I turned my head to the other side, shutting my eyes back. There was silence and no movements, and I was already relieved that she had left when she suddenly grabbed me."Ahhh!!!!!" I screamed when she yanked me off the bed. "What are you doing?!""It's six in the evening, you've been sleeping for thirteen hours and the party as began already!" Riley screamed back.I blinked, pouting my lips cutely. Chapter Sixty Nine

"Ahh!" I exhaled loudly as I gulped down the glass of champagne in my hand. "Aren't you drinking too much?" Sia who was now beside me. I dropped the glass on the buffet table and glanced at her."It's Christmas so let's celebrate, and besides this is my house, I have nothing to worry about." I said with a shrug.Sia's phone beeped and she checked it before looking up."I have to go now, I have something to attend to.""Your boyfriend?" I leaned closer to her with a teasing smile.Sia nodded, smiling broadly."Go on then." I pushed her forward, urging her to go. She waved at me before walking away.I sighed loudly, taking my gaze to the champagne glass, a drunken smile slowly pulling to my lips. "Just one more and I leave." I giggled and turned around, my eyes searching for any of the hired servers. I finally saw one and I waved him over.I took a champagne glass from the tray he was holding, gulping it down before dropping it back on the tray. My throat tingled slightly as I gulped i

Chapter Seventy

"Avery." He called again but I instinctively took a step back."What are you doing here?" I questioned straight, my voice quickening as memories I had hoped to forget from the past months flowed through my head."Happy New Year." He said instead and a scoff left my lips. "I asked a question."Do you know him?" Javier asked beside me.I shook my head, grabbing his hand. "Let's go."But Jared grabbed my hand. "Let him go, Avery. We need to talk.""We have nothing to talk about." I spat harshly before opting to go on, but Javier stopped me, stepping in front of me in a protective stance, which I actually didn't need. He should think about protective himself instead cause the look in Jared's eyes as he stared back at him was scary.I tried to pull him back but he resisted, and took a step forward to Jared, posing a question. "Who the hell are you?"The corners of Jared's lips curled up into a smirk. "Someone you wouldn't want to get involved with, especially not when it involves her." He
