THE ESCAPE

"HEAD TO THE DOOR!!!" "THE DOOR!!!" "GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!" Shouts and screamed filled the chamber as more portions of the walls and ceilings fell to the ground. The dust that had filled the room made it impossible for me to see or breath. I waved my hand in front of me, trying my best to fan off the dust in front of me. "Alexander?" I called amidst coughs as I turned, scanning the place for any sign of the Alpha. "Alexander--" The sound of a loud crack above me caused me to halt my call. Small rocks dropped and dust poured on me as the sound grew louder. I tried looking up to find what was causing the sound but was immediately blinded by the raining dusts. "Arrgh," I screamed in pain as I whipped my head down and began wiping my eyes with the back of my hands. I was too busy trying to get the dust off my eyes and paid little heed to the crack still sounding above me.

HEALED WOUNDS

Alexander laid back on his seat as he let out a low, painful groan. He looked down at Azreon who was attending to his wounds and gritted his teeth. He shut his eyes tight as Azreon poured an oily liquid from a bottle onto the still healing gash on his leg, all the while muttering incomprehensible words I assumed were spells. It's been two hours since Azreon brought us out of the collapsing rogue camp. Damien and Galiath were gone to their rooms, leaving I, Alexander and Azreon in his shack. The putrid smell coming from the boiling pot at the corner caused me to gag multiple times and the jars of animal body parts around me made me uncomfortable in my seat.My body still ached from the constant running and dodging of falling walls and ceilings we had performed back at the rogue camp, but I seemed to be in a more better condition than Alexander. The gash on Alexander's leg seemed to have been healing back at the camp, but now it looked worse. Azreon claimed it was due to the stress Ale

A NEW BEGINNING

Caroline smiled as she dropped a large tray on the small table in front of me. She lifted the cloche off the tray, revealing the breakfast the chefs had prepared for me: an array of fresh berries, scrambled eggs, crispy back and some warm pastries. The scent of the eggs and bacon filled my. lungs, causing my stomach to rumble with anticipation. "Thank you, Caroline," I said, smiling as I lifted my face to her. "This is exactly what I need." Caroline shrugged, keeping her smile. "Well, I figured you would need a good start after everything you went through yesterday," she said, her smile slowly dissipating, replaced with a look of concern. "I was really worried when Azreon brought the news to me. I hope nothing happened to your pup."I chuckled softly. "Well, I guess I..." I paused, almost choking on my words as a thought suddenly hit me-I had told just Alexander of my pregnancy. "How... how do you I'm with child?" "Oh, Alpha Alexander told me," Caroline answered as she picked the c

SHADOWS AND SUNSHINE

"Thank you," I said with a smile as Alexander opened the carriage door for me. Holding my hand, he guided me into the carriage and closed the door. After giving me a smirk, he turned to the other side of the carriage, opened the door and got in. "The driver would soon be coming," he said to me as he relaxed into the carriage seat. The fitted white shirt on him tightened around his body as he adjusted the collar, accentuating his muscles more and his dark matching trousers complemented his figure perfectly. Suddenly, he turned to me and our eyes met. I quickly turned my head to the window as a wave of warmth spread on my cheeks. Alexander chuckled softly, causing the heat in my cheeks to spread. "How... how is your leg?" I asked, trying my best to steer the attention away from myself. I stared at him from the reflection on my window, eager to see the expression on his face. "I figure it's much more better now." "Oh, yes, it is," Alexander replied with a nod, the corner of his lips

BENEATH THE OAK

The carriage came to a slow stop and the driver alighted from his bench. After smoothening an invisible wrinkle on his shirt, he turned to my door and, with a short bow, pulled it open. Smiling, I thanked him and was about coming down when Alexander gently grabbed my arm. "No, no, no," he said, shaking his head. "Let me do the honors, Elora." I blushed, pulling behind my ear a stray strands of hair as I slowly nodded. Chuckling softly, Alexander opened his door and gracefully stepped down from the carriage. With fluid strides, a testaments to his healed leg, he made his way to my side of the carriage. "Thank you, Theran," Alexander said to the driver as he took of the door. Stretching his hands towards me, he said, "allow me to assist you." The time of his voice was smooth, filled with a certain charm that made my heart flutter. I hesitated only for a moment before receiving his hands. With his help and the hem of my dress in my hands, I stepped down from the carriage. My feet tou

SEEING THINGS

The frown on my face deepened as I caught another movement. I hurriedly stood from my seat and looked around, scanning my surroundings. What was that?Goosebumps formed all over my body as a gentle breeze swept past me. Concluding that I was merely seeing things after searching and not seeing anything, I decided to sit back down, but before I could, a loud rustle sounded in the bushes behind me. "Huh?" I muttered as I quickly turned back around. The berry bush in front of me rustled and shook, causing my heartbeat to race faster. I glanced to Alexander who had finally finished unloading the picnic items and turned back to the bush, a lump forming in my throat. With careful steps, I approached the now still bush, my breath hitching as I crouched low to inspect it. The rustling had stopped, leaving just the soft whispers of the wind as it moved through the trees. With twitching hands, I reached for the leaves. My thoughts raced on what was behind it. We're we being monitored by rogue

Covering

Elora's POVI glanced sideways at Alexander as we strolled down the mellow path, the soft leaves crunching beneath our legs, the only sound breaking the silence of the afternoon. His strong presence beside me was like a warm blanket. I felt it wrapping me in comfortably.Alexander was just too gentle and considerate; his caring move had reached every part of me-that feeling of melting away was something I had never felt since my childhood. I was fragile, yes, that's what everyone thought. For the first time in so long, I felt happy. And I am thankful. My heart was merry with emotion, considering he had given me so much, done so much for me, when he never had to."You are smiling again," Alexander said in a deep voice that cut through my thoughts.I looked up at him, feeling the corners of my mouth lift even more."I just can't help it," I said. "I just feel. I don't know. So lucky.""Is it the sunshine, or is it me?" he teased, eyes shinning bright.I laughed low, his voice was ligh

Shadows in the Bush

I stood still, holding the picnic basket in my hands, waiting for Theran to bring the chariot around. Evening was cooling the air, a soft breeze rustling through the grass as the sun dipped below the horizon. Alexander was a few feet away, talking in a low tone, his broad shoulders outlined by the failing light. I looked at him, at peace. Moments like those were fragile treasures I wanted to hold onto in the wake of everything we'd been through. Then, something changed. A shift, a movement in the bushes, and my eyes had darted toward it. My eyes narrowed, peering deeper into the thick foliage. For one brief moment, I thought I might have imagined it, just the wind, perhaps-but then it happened again. My heart skiddled. Not again."Alexander." I breathed, my voice low. He turned to me in an instant, catching the alteration in my tone."What is it?" he asked, his voice low and ready, his entire body tautening as his piercing eyes followed my gaze to the bush. There it was again. A flash

The King's Promise

As soon as we passed through the gates of the kingdom, Alexander's sharp voice tore into the silence.Guards!" he roared, his voice an order. "Double the watch and keep patrols going throughout the night. The rogues are near, and we'll not let them one step closer.".The guards, who were already suspicious when we arrived, immediately jumped into action; their eyes enlarged as they saw the blood still on Alexander's clothes. They knew the urgency without asking any questions. I heard them rallying their men as they spread out in formation, armor clinking in ready preparation for battle.I felt this bizarre sense of relief knowing the kingdom was safe for now, but my own heart was still in turmoil. The weight of the day's events pressed heavily upon my chest. I just needed to get inside, away from the open, away from the fear."Elora," Alexander said softly, his gaze turning to me. "Go inside. The maids will take care of you."I nodded, my legs trembling a little as I stepped off the c

The Rogue's Predicament

"We can't just let this go," one growled, his voice low and venomous. "He destroyed our brothers. He slaughtered them like they were nothing."A murmur of assent ran rife as at the circular ripples on a pool; the glint of a mutual rage blazed in their eyes. Well did they know the force that Alexander had been given to wield: his swiftness, strength, as in a storm he cut through them in the field. Still, this thirst for revenge was deeply in their bones, and none was willing to let it slip their minds-the blood that had flown upon that field.Standing among them was the leader of the rogues-a large wolf, scarred fur and his piercing eyes saying a million words while he stood in silence. He was the one they looked up to for guidance, the one who led them through numerous battles, surviving at places where others fell. His name was Kade, and though his face was composed, his mind was a whirlwind of thoughts."Alexander is to
