CHAPTER 11

Vanya's POVI watched Tara devour the plate of soup placed in front of her. She looked terrible, dark circles under her eyes. Her skin was pale too, lacking it's rosy hue. She had taken off her clothes from the party and ran a cold shower, now dressed in an oversized t shirt of mine. Now her hair hung in damp rattails down her back and shoulders. "You're such a wonderful chef, Mr Leon," she said, swallowing a mouthful of the chicken soup. "Just call me Marco," He said, passing her a glass of water. "And slow down, you wouldn't want to choke now."She nodded. "Thank you. Now I can see where Miss Jacob got her awesome cooking skills from.""Oh please." I scoffed in an attempt to lighten the mood. "I taught him everything he knows."Marco smiled, shaking his head. "Don't argue with her now." He said. "Just eat your food.""I'm never going to drink so much again." Tara groaned. "My head hurts like someone is playing soccer with a metal ball.""You'll be fine." I said, offering her a sma

CHAPTER 12

Vanya's POVThe weekend went by in a blur. After Tara left and I had to spend a lot of hours appeasing the twins, I'm glad that Ryan finally understood what was going on and played along perfectly. All thoughts of Josephine and Cian were pushed to the darkest parts of my mind. I spent the rest of my weekend having fun with my boys. We had indoor picnics and went out for ice cream on Sunday evening. And by Monday morning, it was time to go back to our regular schedules."Here are the reports from the last event at the Rochester house." Tara said as she handed me a file. "From the figures we had a sixty percent increase in calls and project proposals. If we're to take all of them, we'll need more staff. ""More staff huh?" I took the papers from her and leafed through them. The figured were looking good. And I'm sure there was nothing there that would point to the breakdown Tara had at the events. She also looked better now, her cheeks were back to life and she had a cheerful smile on h

CHAPTER 13

Vanya's POV:As I was packing up my bag to leave the office for the day, my secretary came into my office carrying a bouquet of red roses. They looked huge, tens of roses all clamped together and tied with a pink string in shiny paper."What's that for?" I asked, turning to face her."These came in for you." She walked up to me and handed the bouquet over. I reached out and hesitantly took it from her. The heady scent of red roses hit me hard, making me hold my breath.A note was attached to the roses. I took it out and read it. "Have a wonderful evening, Miss Jacob." The note read, from Roman Stephens. I shook my head, a small smile playing on my lips. Roman, of course I remember him from the party. But sending me roses after just one meeting, that's surprising to say the least."Should I get rid of them?" Tammy asked, watching me with curious eyes. "No, don't worry." I said, picking up my purse. "There's no need for that. I'll take them home with me.""Oh," She gasped in surprise.

CHAPTER 14

Vanya's POV The week ran by in a busy blur. Before I knew it, it was weekend again. So many events had happened that I had barely any moment to myself to catch a breath. So far our plan to hire more staff had been working perfectly. Now we had even more hands on deck to ensure a smooth running of the company. Finally, I could sleep in one Saturday morning. But what I didn't expected to find after I had woken up was Marco holding some sort of interview in the back gardens.I watched from my spot in the kitchen, staring out of the huge window that overlooked the garden. He was talking to a woman, three other women sat on the bench in the garden, maybe waiting for their turn."What's he doing?" I asked no one in particular, narrowing my eyes at the scene in front of me."Why don't you ask him?" I heard Emilia's voice say. I turned to see her walking into the kitchen. She smiled at me, giving me a brief hug. "I would, once he's done of course" I replied. She nodded, her eyes drifting to

CHAPTER 15

Vanya's POV"You again huh?" "In the flesh, miss." Emily replied, a cheerful smile on her face. I stared up at her, tapping the bottom of my pen against the clipboard in my hands. "Emily, you know that this isn't allowed.""I'm applying for a position in your company, I wasn't aware that it wasn't allowed anymore."I rubbed my temples, a tired sigh leaving my lips. I know Emily is tenacious, I've seen it happen so many times. She never backs down. I had once admired that when she was my bodyguard and when I was Luna, but now I'm just Vanya Jacob. And I don't need her tenacity. But come on! When is she going to quit?"I want to be of help to you, miss." Emily says as if reading my mind. "The more you push me away, the more I'll come back stronger.""Emily," I said, leaning forward. She leaned her head back, folding her arms delicately in her lap. I took the cue and leaned back. "Why don't you work for the new Luna? You're not obligated to work for me anymore." "New luna?" She wrinkl

CHAPTER 16

Vanya's POVSaturday rolled by slowly and soon it was time for the twins to meet their new nanny. Calling Emily a nanny felt very weird, especially given her history. I can't believe that I felt apprehensive about introducing Emily to the boys. All their life the care they have gotten has come from either me or Marco and Emilia. It suddenly felt too personal bringing another person into the equation. But it's too late thinking about it now."Are you sure about wearing that?" I asked, turning to glance at Emily briefly. I returned my eyes to the road after getting a glance of her outfit. Still the same. "Yes." She replied simply.I don't know what I was expecting her to change into, although at the back of my mind I had expected her to wear something more child friendly, maybe like some lighter colors or a leggings and a simple blouse."Can I keep my gun in your car?" She asked. It took every ounce of control inside of me not to hit the brakes and whip my head to look at her. Instea

CHAPTER 17

Vanya's POV:"We're sorry Miss Emily," The boys said in unison, their voices sounding sincere enough. "We won't try to hurt you in the future."Oh my goodness. Boys and their expensive pranks. That ball would have hurt a lot if it had hit me right in the face. And maybe Emily was right, maybe they would have loved her weapons. But there's no way I'm introducing four year olds to a world of real guns and knives. We all sat in the living room the boys huddled together and having solemn looks on their faces. Emily sat close to them, her eyes watching them curiously. "Here's some snacks," Emilia's voice called out. She emerged from the kitchen with a tray of tea and lemonade for the boys. She placed it on the centre table, her eyes moving to Emily. "Emily?" She called, shock in her tone.Emily rose to her feet. "Emilia," She said with a small bow. When she raised her head she had a terrified expression on her face but it was gone faster than light, maybe I had imagined it. "It's a surpr

CHAPTER 18

Vanya's POV"Oh no, we're all out of pasta." Emilia groaned, staring at the empty cabinet. "Looks like dinner will come late today." "It's fine," I washed my hands off, putting a lid over the chicken I had finished seasoning. "I'll run to the store real quick and get it. ""Thank you vanya," She said with a grateful smile. "You're a love. Could you also get some wine? We ran out.""Oops," I chuckled. "That would be my fault."She Shook her head, a smile on her lips. "Go now. Or else the twins will tear down the house and demand to be fed.""I think you spoil them too much, aunty Emilia.""What can I do? I love them as my own."Her words had me thinking a lot. I hadn't ever bothered about it before, and it's like it's just hitting me now that Marco and Emilia don't have children of their own. I don't dwell too much on it. Instead I left the kitchen and headed to the grocery store. The closest one is a good thirty minutes drive away, courtesy of Marco's house being in the middle of t

CHAPTER 19

Vanya's POV"Are you okay?"I lowered the bottle of wine from my lips and turned to look at Marco. He was dressed in pajamas, probably about to go to bed. "I'm fine." I replied, bringing the bottle back up to my lips. He walked out and came closer to me. "That's a lot of bottles," He said. I turned and looked at the bottles of wine strewn on the floor beside me. "I'll get more tomorrow." I said, chugging down more wine. I could barely taste the wine against my numbed tongue. I can't tell how many bottles I've chugged down. I can't even feel the alcohol. Sometimes I wish it was easy to get drunk. But unfortunately I have high alcohol tolerance. "Can I join you?" Marco asked."Sure" I replied with a noncommittal shrug. He sat beside me on the floor, leaning his back up against the wall. I passed the bottle to him which he kindly declined. I turned my gaze back to the night sky filled with stars. My thoughts are everywhere and nowhere at once. I can't even start to process what I f

CHAPTER 20

Cian's POV:I watched the search bar come up empty for the second time even after I had used a different set of keywords this time.Vanya Jacob. I couldn't find her online. No Instagram, no Facebook, nothing. It's like her life didn't exist online. Or maybe it had all been wiped away, I couldn't be sure.I searched again, to be sure.No search results found.I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. This is really annoying. Why can't I find anything about her?! Anything at all!Behind me I heard the bed rustling, a sign that Josephine was awake. "What are you doing up this late?" She asked, her voice still sleepy."Working." I answered, typing out a new set of keywords. "Go to bed. I'll join you soon.""You said that fifteen minutes ago." Josephine whined. She tapped his side of the bed aggressively. "Come on baby, come to bed with me."I didn't reply. Again no search results found. I sighed in frustration and slammed the laptop shut. I knew I should have gotten her contact that
