CHAPTER 31

With a sigh, Elijah ran the back of his palm over the face stubble that had been growing for a day. Things that Ema has done for and around Amelia since she moved in with us take on a slightly different tone in light of what's happening now, but I think it's important that you remember them.Bruce signaled for Elijah to continue talking despite a tightening in his jaw.Elijah suggested reviving the full moon party from three months ago. Some said that Ema "accidentally" threw Amelia into the fire. Due to her weak reflexes, Amelia could have been hurt if her reflexes weren't as strong as they are now. Bruce stammered out the words "it was an accident" in defense, but it was feeble. An eyebrow was raised by Elijah. "Did it?" And what about the time that Ema took a small group of younger members on an unsanctioned hunt into the territory of the neighboring pack that we almost provoked a war over that reckless deed of hers? ” Bruce fiddled with the arms resting uncomfortably. Just then there was a breaking sound of a twig in the background. Ema’s head immediately swung around and her eyebrows made a v as she peered at the blackness. Then all was calm again as a great number seemed to be counting the seconds of the moment when it was impossible to move. Then as if out of a bad dream the attackers started to emerge from behind the vegetation line. Ema yelled a warning to the mourns of the Packhouse and the shadows of the surrounding woodland. Suddenly, there were growls, barking, and the clashing of bodies as the Pack that had been resting low on the plain surged up to attempt and make Bask stand away.

Ema glanced at the appropriate time to see the hybrid coming; her injuries were finally healing thanks to her unique body structure. Ema left the home and stepped into the lovely of the last few days, and every step she took seemed to her an effort against her contradictory feelings. Ema could not drive off this awful feeling of being followed as she came closer to Caroline’s secret cabin. She halted for a while and was searching around the trees in anticipation of finding anything that appealed to her but nothing happened. The pins and needles at the back of her neck remained with her. Pushing aside her anxiety, Ema stepped over to the cabin and executed the coded knock: They have a rapid three taps, and then two slow ones. As the door slowly opened Caroline’s worn-looking face was revealed. Caroline was at the door, “You are running late,” she murmured and allowed Ema into the house. Ema’s shoulders started to slump as soon as Caroline shut the door behind them. To Caroline, the cabin was synonymous with security and freedom to converse so that she would not have to peek over her back

” ‘It was,’ said Caroline, ‘the house, the husband, the job, the wolves – everything was beautiful for a while,’ ” The hybrid assisted the Pack by applying her power and expertise. She contributed to their growth and even to saving people’s lives. Similarly to the way Bruce believed in Amelia, the Alpha never doubted her. Ema experienced a cold feeling that went down her spine. "And after that?" Caroline dragged her attention, her brown piercing, keen eyes back to Ema. “And then she turned her back on the Pack when it could have used her most. Many werewolves died,” ‘A whole night, a whole bloodline gone. ’ Ema felt that her face had lost the usual redness that symbolizes life. ”That’s —that is awful. ” However, Amelia. . . " He did not argue and Caroline continued, “Perhaps not the same?” ‘Perhaps. ’ Can you though be sure? Can you put all the life of your pack in jeopardy based on this view that you hold so dear? Ema slouched into her chair and glanced at th

He lay low in the dense shrubs, his lungs functioning as if they were governed by a metronome - steady, and even, his muscles did not appear tight anymore; they were calm. He had been in chase of Ema for hours clinging to her smell along all the curves of the forest pathways. It hadn’t been simple — Ema was skilled at disguising her tracks here and there and more than once Elijah almost gave up on her. However, He had sustained he was building up for the part of Bruce’s Beta over the years and had honed himself to a fine tip. Elijah was now lurking beneath the tree’s shadow as observed Ema approach a small, ordinary-looking cabin. The place was fine, he had to concede that. Were it not for the fact that he has been following Ema around he never would have located this area. It was entirely concealed thereby being hidden from the human eye by natural structures and what he thought to be anti-Visualization charms. Elijah‘s expression went serious as he observed Ema knock on the

Bruce furrowed his brow. So, an elderly lady? Were you able to identify her? " Elijah ground his teeth and nodded. "It was Caroline. " The name hovered in the air between them like a heavy, symbolic burden that they knew they were responsible for but didn’t want to face. Bruce’s eyes opened real wide as if he could not believe what he heard, and then they became slits of focus. ‘Caroline,’ He repeated and when he spoke her name once more, it was as if this weighed utterly against her genuine identity. "Are you sure?" "Definitely," Elijah said. ‘‘She was there even in the dark And Bruce… The cottage was awarded. Magically shielded They will do everything they can to keep whatever they are up to hidden. ’’ All of a sudden he felt frightened, Bruce began to pace and every single unnerved fiber reflected it. ‘This has taken me by surprise. Everything becomes different when Caroline is included. ‘ Elijah eyed his Alpha up and down, with the scrutiny that equals the amoun

Bruce wandered around the breadth of the personal portion of the Packhouse, seeing the Guard at night and the moon that was high above the building. There she was, sitting on the ledge and observing him closely with her eagle-like vision fixated on whatever he was doing. Lightly taunting him, she added, “If you keep that up, you’re going to wear a hole in the floor. ” “You ought to know something was wrong when your lover is quiet like this,” he continued. Bruce slammed on the wall and raked a hand through his hair and Amelia knew this was not a good sign. Finally, he stated what seemed to be in a low tone and with considerable strain, “It is Ema. ” The gorgeous Amelia brightened up instantly and stood from her sitting position. “What about her case? Is it something new? Bruce closed his eyes for a second and he took a big breath to center himself. Today Elijah followed her. She has been hanging out with someone. Someone whom we assumed was on Vacation. Amelia

Amelia listened intently to the night’s music while she proceeded on the path of the forest where Elijah directed her. Due to her half-breed nature, she was able to stroll softly yet at the same time, sense any danger or pursuit surrounding her. Amelia could sense the magical wards around the cabin rising the nearer she went to the Cabin. Holding back in agony she continued. Caroline had wanted to escape the situation at all costs and although she had attempted to defend herself enough with magic, it was not enough to dissuade a hybrid. Before her, the cabin rose, a black figure against the background of the night sky. Amelia drew closer to the structure warily, every part of her attention on detecting any sign of liveliness from inside. A light was on in the house and the windows were covered by curtains through which one could just make out the light. Amelia took a deep breath before approaching the door and knocked violently on it. Moments passed and it seemed that th

Caroline is stiff and nervous; she frequently paces the modest cabin she has been assigned. She could not acknowledge it to herself, but what had occurred to her with Amelia earlier that evening saddened her very deeply. The elder woman’s anger boiled with such audacity of the hybrid; she had dared to pursue Caroline and practically offer a threat. Caroline emitted a low growl of anger, standing with her hands by her sides ‘damn that girl’. “Who does she think she is?” But the wrath was gone almost as soon as it surged, replaced by the cold creeping back into her at the center of her being. Caroline was wrong thinking that Amelia would not do anything to gain what she desired. What more was she able to do if she had been able to locate the warded cabin, and face Caroline face to face? Caroline's gaze turned towards the mound of scrolls and books that clutter the table and the floor all over the cabin. It seemed so exposed, everything of it: records from the secret con
