Chapter 21: Work with me

The buzzing sound of her alarm woke her up, she turned to where the sound came from and turned off the alarm. Khloe stretched her arms and legs before getting up to head to the bathroom, where she did her business and had her bath. Determined, she was set to go to work to conquer what life would throw at her and to solve all mysteries, including finding Mark's true identity by all means. “I'll be off to work in no time,” she said to Kelly who came down for breakfast. “So, you and Brandon. How has it been?” Kelly started, a smile curling up to her face in the form of a grimace. “Yeah, we're getting along pretty well. Turns out he's here to help the business grow,” she said, cutting a piece of meat with her cutlery and putting it in her mouth. “Are you sure? Because with what I heard yesterday, you guys seem closer than just friends,” Kelly added, squinting her eyelids. “It's not like that, Kelly. And where did you hear it.” “You're really popular after that divorce and comeback.

Chapter 22: Be honest

The meeting ended abruptly and everyone went back to their respective work and duties. Exhausted, Khloe returned to her office where Brandon was waiting for her.“I've been waiting for you,” he said professionally. Khloe grabbed her seat and sat behind her desk.“Yeah, I went to make myself a nice coffee.”“Caffeine isn't good for your health," Brandon advised Khloe, and she shrugged her shoulders, gulping the hot coffee.“I've been thinking about what the chauffeur said lately and it seemed to make sense. My only problem is; how does he know so much?” Brandon reasoned, rubbing his chin dramatically. His legs were crossed on her desk and his shoes were dirtying the cleaned desk. Since Khloe was a neat freak, it irritated him but he kept quiet.“Cut it out. He said he just knew,” Khloe said, trying to brush it off.“And believe that. I have my suspicions. …”“When have you not?” Khloe asked with an eye roll.“He seemed too smart if you ask me. I've researched his background?” He asked

Chapter 23: I think I should go

Khloe Ferguson's heart raced as Brandon talked. Everytime someone mentions Arthur's name, her heart seems to get all excited, making it skip a beat. And not to forget, her face flushed like a ripe tomato. “I'm lost. What were you saying again?” She asked, trying to sound confident despite the flutters in her chest. “I was saying; I get it. You and your chauffeur have a thing for each other, its quite evident,” he said with emphasis on the thing. “And what makes you say that, Brandon?” Khloe asked defensively. “Believe me when I say, I know when someone is in love. My mom used to tell me about her love life. How she met my father and how they felt an instant connection. Like their fate had been knotted,” he explained. “You and your fantasies. My driver and I have no such thing. I simply like his skills, that's all. Besides, I just got out of marriage and I'm not planning on getting into any new relationship for now. I'm still healing,” Khloe said, it wasn't a lie but wasn't the

Chapter 24: Don't tempt me

Arthur Cassius and Khloe Ferguson ended up chatting on their phones until they both fell asleep. The following day was his day off, Khloe wasn't going to work and Lucas was also not leaving the house, so Arthur stayed behind. “I better go meet with Sam and talk about the case and see how far they've gone,” he muttered, putting on his shirt and his pants when the doorbell rang suddenly. “I'm not expecting anyone. So who could that be?” He asked himself. Buckling his pants before going to get the door. The person on the other side kept ringing the doorbell non-stop. “I'm coming!!” Arthur yelled, as he got to the door and opened. Kelly stood in front of him with her arms crossed and her lips pout. “Kelly? I thought you went back to Maryland?” Arthur said, letting her in. “I didn't go back. I went to a friend's place. That isn't the issue. Why have you been ignoring me all this while, Arthur?” She said her tone rising. Arthur led the way to his living room and sat on the couch

Chapter 25: “Ethan,” Khloe muttered.

After the text messages from Arthur the previous night, Khloe Ferguson couldn't help but keep thinking about it over and over again. His text messages brighten her day, and she prayed it would continue. Her mind kept replaying it like a movie at the shower, even over breakfast. “What's making you smile all of a sudden?” Kelly, her elder sister asked. They both sat at the dining table where food was served. “Nothing. I just had a nice dream,” Khloe tried brushing off the question. “Are you sure? Because it looks like your face is going to burst from overheating,” she said, gesturing Khloe's swollen cheeks. “My face? What do you mean by that?” Khloe said, touching her face. She had blushed so hard that her face turned red. “It's just a mere… uh…” Khloe tried coming up with an excuse but failed and Kelly saw through the lie. “Cat caught your tongue, huh? Just don't. You suck at lying. I know you're seeing someone, don't let him break your heart like that son of a bit**h did to me,

Chapter 26: I need to leave right away

“Ethan?” Khloe whispered as she saw her ex-husband staring down at her, a stupid grin on his face which her hands etched to slap. “Khloe? It's good to see you,” Ethan retorted, smiling from ear to ear. She feigned a fake smile to herself, “I am also happy to see you,” which was obviously a lie. She hates his guts and for talking to her. “What are you doing here? Such a fancy place like this?” he said, holding onto a shopping bag. Khloe knew he was faking it, and she knows exactly how to go along with the flow. “I'm here for the same reason you're here,” she stated firmly. “Ah, I see…” he was saying when someone called him from behind. “Babe? Who are you talking to?” a familiar voice said beside him, turns out to be Katrina, that witch. “Oh, look who we have here,” Katrina said from behind, mockingly. Khloe knew for the fact, she was one of the persons that caused the end of her marriage, not that she was happy with the marriage. “What brings you here?” Katrina asked. “That qu

Chapter 27: “So, it really wasn't real”

Arthur Cassius didn't plan to kiss her on the lips, it was just an impulse to see her reaction, which she responded to. He loved her every reaction, the way she answers to his calls, the way she acts tough but secretly a baby. He took mental note of everything about her. He stood beside her car waiting for her while thinking. His mind was junked with the image of Khloe. Arthur and Kelly initially went to the mall because Kelly suggested they go shopping like last time before she goes back to her family, to which Arthur agrees. But he knows Kelly well, she was a spoiled brat that would literally do anything to get whatever she wants. * “Sir, we have a location but it is at a very far district of the town and its surrounded by heavy security,” Sam said over the phone. “Get close and see what you can find. I need to be gone as soon as possible,” Arthur commanded before switching off the phone. He sighed waiting for Khloe to come out of the restaurant. “I'll be leaving now,” she a

Chapter 28: The rejection

Arthur Cassius' lips were still heavy on hers, both lost in the act, forgetting the world around them, like it had disappeared. Suddenly, Arthur pulled out, out of breath still looking at Khloe, who had a shock expression laced on her face. Arthur stepped backwards, his eyes still on her as he realised what he had done; forcefully kissing someone out of their will. “I…I'm…sorry” he stammered, looking down, he went back to the driver seat. Khloe on the other had lots of butterflies in her belly. Like she'd always wanted this. “It's finally time to get close to him,” she thought to herself happily. The atmosphere was tense and awkwardness lingered, like a thick fog that refused to lift. Arthur was so deep in thoughts that he almost crashed into a car. He knew what he did was uncalled for, so he apologised. “I'm terribly sorry ma'am. If you want me to resign. I'll happily do so. I don't know what I was thinking. I….I'm not going to make any excuses but, I promise it won't happen again

Chapter 29: The accident

The next morning, Khloe Ferguson woke up to an arching head, a dry throat and swollen eyes with eyebags under them. She had cried herself to sleep after the brutal rejection from Arthur. She shrugged off the feeling for the sake of her father's company and got ready for work. She hobbled out of the mansion, her eyes hidden behind her glasses. Though her eyes are still puffy from cries. “Khloe?” Kelly called her and she stopped. “Are you fine? Why are you wearing shades, it's winter season,” Kelly pointed out. “I just felt like wearing them. It adds to my aesthetic,” Khloe lied, flashing her older sister a smile. “If you say so. About yesterday….” Kelly had started but Khloe interrupted her by placing her hands on her shoulders. “Don't worry about that. I was so tired that I slept early,” Khloe lied even more and fortunately Kelly believed her. “I'll be leaving now. Duty calls!” Khloe said walking to the parking lot. Her heart slammed in her chest as she realized she'll be wit

Chapter 30: Who was he?

Khloe's car swerved swiftly before crashing into the oncoming car, which had blinded her with full lights, and before she could process all what had happened, she slowly started losing consciousness. “Is this how I am going to die? With a broken heart. I won't see him again, I won't be able to comfort my sister anymore…” she said as her eyes became blurry and she started coughing out blood… In no time, people were around the scene of the accident. Sirens then wailed and the people muttering kept her awake. She felt a liquid warm substance pouring from her head and realised that it's blood. She tried moving her body, even when she knew the excruciating pain that followed would be unbearable but her body fell reluctantly. Her eyes started closing slowly and suddenly a silhouette appeared in front of her. The figure was calling out her name but it was barely audible. With her last strength, she muttered. “Mark?” her eyes slowly closed and she finally passed out. The silhouette figure
