Chapter 10
Evelina’s POVAs Gabriel’s words sunk in, I felt like the ground had slipped out from beneath me. Sleep in his room? With him? The idea sent a shiver down my spine, and I immediately began to protest, my mind racing for a way out of this situation.“Sleep in your room?” I repeated incredulously. I swallowed hard, my discomfort growing with each passing second. “I... I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I managed to rasp out. As if he even cared what I thought. His expression was unreadable, his eyes two pools of pitch black glinting with that hint of malice that seemed to render me powerless. His words from the club resounded in my brain.I want you to obey.If I have to teach you a lesson, so be it.I can assure you…you’d like it. Eventually.I try to ignore the heat in my belly igniting over that final sentence. I push away my pique’d curiosity over his words. This man was a cold-blooded killer. Of my own accord, my eyes go to my ring finger where my engagement ring still rests. He ki

Chapter 11
Evelina's POVLying in bed, I turned my back towards the bathroom door where I could hear Gabriel running the water. The bed was large, enough to keep a decent space between us, yet I couldn’t help but speculate if he had different intentions for the night. Suddenly, I heard the door open to the bathroom and him moving about the room. My heart jumped in my chest. I tried to swallow the lump in my throat as I imagined what he planned to do. He had made it clear that he wanted me as his mate to help him become powerful. The thought sent shivers down my spine. He was going to try to force me to mate with him. I had to be ready to defend myself. The mattress shifted suddenly with his weight when he climbed into bed on the other side, and I practically jumped in a bid to move farther away from him. He gave an exasperated sigh into the dark room; the sound echoing off the walls. Gabriel shifted again, and I hauled ass, scooting further back. I felt him turn and my body responded in kind, in

Chapter 12
Gabriel's POV Amaya and I stood back to back, surrounded by a circle of witches on the balcony of my penthouse. Amaya’s breath came out in labored gasps. She’d expended too much magic. The witches were too powerful for her. The plan had been for her to hold them off while I escaped with Evelina. She’d portal herself to where I had my jet waiting to take us away. It was for instances such as this that Amaya avoided using her magic. One never knew when an enemy might attack. But neither of us had counted on multiple dark witches showing up. One or two, we could handle. But this…was unprecedented.I could not leave Amaya to fend for herself when she was so clearly struggling. These were dark witches, with the ability to wield magic much more efficiently. I pulled the trigger on my silver pistol, but instead of hitting its mark, it disappeared into a whirlpool of shadows created by these stupid witches. Dark witches practiced sacrificial magic, which gave them an edge over witches like Am

Evelina’s POVI landed on top of Gabriel, his body taking the brunt of the fall as he cradled me against him.“M****a!” he cursed, the wind knocked out of him.It took me a moment to catch my own breath before I lifted my head from his chest to search for Amaya. She was face down in a patch of grass a few feet away from us.I had been warned this would happen. Followers of the Dark Witch Sybl were after me. Just like they’d been after my tia Melanie. We’d done so well in keeping my existence a secret from them. From everyone really. But one wrong move and they’ve discovered that another Earth Witch has been born. One they probably hoped they could bend to their will.It was a no-brainer for me. For now, I had to stick with Gabriel. I’d take him over the dark witches any day. At least until I figured out how to keep myself hidden. I couldn’t go home. What if they came for my family? And I definitely didn’t want to go to tia Melanie. She’d just hound me to join the coven. Which I definit

Chapter 14
Gabriel's POVEvelina had been beside herself when she found her sire lying in his own piss and vomit. Fucker deserved it if you asked me. I never did like the pendejo. Especially since he was the one that had helped me poison everyone at Evelina’s Quince’ when I'd tried to storm the party and take my revenge on her stepfather. Joel was not loyal to anyone but the bottle. However, it was more than obvious in the way Evelina moved about the house with an air of wistful sadness, as she called out to her pendejo papa, that she loved him.I almost wanted to choke the asshole with my own two hands for letting Evelina find him like this. If he was going to die, at least die where she can’t find you motherf.u.c.ker.By the time I’d managed to drag him into the bedroom, Amaya had already called for an ambulance. He needed his stomach pumped, judging from the way he was constantly puking, crapping himself, and convulsing. I did my best to make sure he didn’t suffocate by turning him on his side.

Chapter 15
Evelina’s POVI sat numbly the entire time unable to form a single coherent sentence as an entire team worked to save my father’s life. The nurses had multiple times tried to ask me about my father’s medical history. Apparently, for the last five years, he hadn’t even bothered getting routine check-ups. I was completely clueless. Because I hadn’t been part of his life. I hadn’t tried. He could have died, and I would never even know if he was allergic to anything. No one would even care he was gone. Except for me. I wiped away a tear from my eye. I was the only one that could help him. Would he ever be able to leave the bottle behind? Or was this just a never-ending cycle he would repeat, until one day it would end in his death?I wish Kyle and Mama didn’t hate him. I wish they could help him. Part of me wanted to call Mama. To call Kyle. They were the two people I’d always gone to whenever I needed help. Surely…they could do something to help my papa? And then I recalled how Kyle had

Evelina’s POV “How the fu.c.k are they tracing us?” Gabriel muttered angrily, suddenly grabbing my arm and pulling me in the opposite direction. “We can’t go down there. That’s what they want,” he explained.I knew he was right. But what about all the innocent people who would die in their bid to get to me? I couldn’t just let that happen.“Wait!” I exclaimed, stopping in my tracks and turning to face Gabriel. “We can’t just leave everyone behind like this. There are people who need our help.”Gabriel’s jaw clenched.“We don’t have time for this,” he growled.I squared my shoulders, determination burning in my chest. “I’m not leaving them to die,” I stated firmly, meeting Gabriel’s intense gaze with my own unwavering resolve.“They’re after me. If they can’t find me, they’ll leave everyone alone. The sooner we get out of here, the better,” Gabriel ended. That comment threw me for a loop. So he still thought they were going through all this trouble for him? Well… let him think that.I

Chapter 17
Evelina’s POV“NO!” I screamed, thrashing wildly. I could save him. I could have used my powers. I should have used them. “Gabriel!” I screamed his name, unable to explain the terror seizing me.Vincent tightened his grip around my waist, his hand clenching my skin through the fabric of my clothes as he pulled himself and me up into the jet while I struggled against him. My heart pounded in my chest, every beat echoing in my ears.I moved to the edge, but Vincent pulled me back sharply.“We need to save him!” I exclaimed, unable to explain the tears stinging to my eyes.In that moment, I couldn’t help but picture Gabriel as he’d shielded me. As he’d taken the brunt of the fall when we’d portalled to the park the night before. Even the way he’d pulled my father out of the bathroom despite his obvious disdain for the task. And finally, how he’d put my safety first every step of the way. Something bloomed in my chest, something I hadn’t known existed until I saw him hurtling towards death
