Chapter 61 - Fatima

“Girl! You look fucking fierce. What the hell did you do to yourself over break?” Ollie says the second that I step into the house. Their arms go around me and they pull me into a fierce hug. I cackle as I return their hug. “I just needed an update to my look.” And I did. After I talked to JoJo about what went down with Kurt, she insisted that we hit up the salon and the shops. I got my hair trimmed, layered, and highlighted, a facial, a mani/pedi, and several entirely new outfits to help build my confidence and lift my spirits. And it really did. It’s amazing how self-care and feeling good about the way that you look can just make you feel good.“Bitch, this isn’t an update. This is a glow-up on a girl that didn’t need one. You trying to make every guy on this campus throw himself at you?” Ollie says, playing with my ponytail. Then looking at me with a raised eyebrow, they ask, “Or one guy in particular?”I pull away from Ollie and glare at them. “I’m not look

Chapter 62 - Kurt

“What the actual fuck, Kurt?! Get your shit together! You’re fucking up the flow and you’re making mistakes that are costing us money.” My boss has me in his office after my shift and is yelling at me. It’s been nearly a month since everything went down with Fati. I haven’t seen her, other than in class. And even then, I haven’t spoken to her. I’ve barely slept. I’m fucking up at work. I’m fucking up in the ring, having lost every spar that I’ve had. It’s gotten to the point that Mickey has refused to sign me up for anymore fights. He pulled me aside last night and sat me down. “Kid, I don’t know what the fuck is going down with you. You’ve never been one to share and that normally isn’t an issue until it is. And right now it is. Tell me what’s going on. Because you are fucking shit up left and right.” “Nothing to worry about, Mickey. Just having some difficulty with school and not sleeping well.” It’s not a lie, exactly.

Chapter 63 - Kurt

It takes me a second to realize exactly what’s happening. I feel groggy and dazed. It’s hard to breathe and I have to force myself to sit up. Everything in the room seems hazy and it’s hard to focus on anything. “Fuck…” I croak out. What the hell has my mother done now? Because she has to be the cause of this. Other than the current situation with Fatima, my mother is the source of everything fucked up that I have to deal with in my life. It’s gotta be her. I push my feet to the floor before snatching them back. Good news, I’m more awake. Bad news, the floor is hot. Like almost painfully. I rub my eyes trying to clear them. Unfortunately, when I open them, things don’t seem any clearer. It’s then that I realize what’s going on. The house is on fire. There is smoke in my room. And I was so exhausted that I didn’t realize that it started. Putting my feet back down, I cross the floor in quick footsteps a

Chapter 64 - Fatima

Ollie had to order the cab for me. I was just too panicked to even think of the practicalities. Both they and Angela are with me for support. Angela has a go bag of waters, snacks, reading materials, and the like for such purposes that she brought with her, though there isn’t much need for it with a bunch of werewolves. Still, she has a brother who was very accident prone as a child, teen, and college student, so she has spent her fair share of time in pack hospitals waiting for the dumbass’s wolf to be able to heal him. It’s something that she just always brings with her. I’ll probably be thankful for it later, but right now, like I said before, I’m freaking the fuck out. The second that we get to the Emergency Department of the hospital, I’m flying out of the cab as it’s still coming to a stop and running to the nursing station. Angela and Ollie are right behind me as I fly into the doors and right up to the nurse. “Kurt Walker!” I

Chapter 65 - Meredith

Our Sunday movie marathon just finished about 15 minutes ago. Each week, my mates and I each pick a movie and watch from dinner time until all three are done. Gael picked his typical superhero movie, choosing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He can always be counted on for an action movie. Hakeem typically either goes with a documentary or a horror movie. Tonight, he chose Killers of the Flower Moon. So, a little of both. I’m typically the wild card. I love all kinds of movies: rom-com, comedies, period dramas, horror, action, psychological thriller. Doesn’t matter as long as it keeps my attention. Tonight, I decided to go with an oldie, but a goodie. Fight Club. One of my absolute favs. “My best movie vote goes to Fight Club,” I say as we’re cleaning up to get ready for bed. Gael groans and Hakeem rolls his eyes as he smiles indulgently at me. “Of course you would say that. It’s your favorite movie,” my Dream says to me.

Chapter 66 - Caleb

The flight on the helicopter takes about four hours. The entire way there, I have Fati’s parents helping me by chopping, mashing, and separating ingredients for the potion that I’ll need to give Kurt before Fati can mark him. “How do you know what to do? Have you helped someone do this before?” Hakeem asks as he muddles together stinging nettle and lemon balm. I need all of the ingredients in a liquid form so that I can inject it the central line that his IV will be in. By the time it’s drained, he’ll be ready for the matemark and it will make him a werewolf. I shrug my shoulders. “I guess it’s kind of like Arya, Devin, and Meredith with Selene. They just know because Selene wants them to know. It’s the same thing with me and Hecate. Once she told me what I needed to do, I just knew how to do it.” “Handy, that,” Meredith says, mashing some of the garlic with the edge of a table knife. Yeah, the helicopter ride is smooth and we wolves heal qu

Chapter 67 - Fatima

I follow the nurse down the hallway, looking back over my shoulder at my friends and family. I wish that someone could come with me. Not that I don’t think that I can do this by myself. I’m a luna, obviously I’ve got this and can make sure that Kurt is safe. But I know that seeing my mate laid so low is going to hurt. Especially since our bond is so fragile. I have so much doubt. So much worry that this isn’t going to work. And what happens if it doesn’t? Will he ever be able to walk? Support himself? How will he live? Trust me, daughter, I hear in my head. And I’ve been around my mother enough when she was taken over by Selene to know who is speaking to me. Selene, how do you know that this will work? You and Hecate have never done this before, I plead with her. I feel warm surrounding my body, like I’m being hugged. I know that it’ll work because I will it so. You will not lose your mate this day, Fatima. I refuse to allow

Chapter 68 - Kurt

I wake up slowly, the cold air of the room and the antiseptic smell permeating my senses. I’m laying on my side and stiffness seems to make my body ache. I shift and expect pain, but there’s nothing but the ache of being in the same position for too long. I try to roll on my back, but there are pillows holding me in this position. It’s when I huff out a breath in an attempt to sit up that the movement alerts someone in the room with me. “Kurt?” That voice. That beautiful, melodic voice. It’s her. “Fati?” I ask, craning my neck in an attempt to find her. When my eyes finally rest on hers, something within me eases. “When did you get here? How did you know to come?” She’s up and at my side, her hand caressing my cheeks as her eyes search my face. I’m not sure what she is looking for, but something in my appearance causes her tense shoulders to relax. She lets out a huge sigh and leans down to kiss my forehea

Chapter 69 - Fatima

I’ve been trying to figure out I’m going to tell Kurt everything on the way back to the house and I’m no closer to an answer than I was when I got in the car. How do you tell someone that all the fairytales that they had heard that go bump in the night really do exist and that he is now one of them, destined to be the lune of the biggest werewolf pack in the world? Not something that you can tell him as a bedtime story, now is it? Mom, Ba, and Papá are strangely silent, taking up the front and middle seats of the van we’re in, along with Caleb. Kurt and I are in the back, anther precaution to make it harder to figure out where Kurt is, since the back windows are heavily tinted. The silence lets me know that they are furiously mindlinking with each other and listening in to anything that Kurt and I might be saying to each other. I had introduced Kurt to everyone in the car when we got in. Though he was polite and definitely distracted by the situa

Chapter 70 - Caleb

I watch Fati shift into her wolf and the look that crosses Kurt’s face. The incredulity and disbelief that bleeds to fear and panic. And he does what people so often do when people don’t understand something. He gets angry.“What the…how the hell – what the fuck!” His hoarse whisper is full of vehemence and near horror.I walk over to him, trying to keep my own fear that he will hurt Fati at bay. I will happily rip his heart from his chest if he fucks this shit up for her. “She’s a werewolf, Kurt. And she and I turned you into one to save your life.”“I am not one of those things!” he hisses out.Fati whines, her beautiful, powerful wolf seeming to curl into herself. Her ears lower, her head bows, and her tail drops between her legs in an effort to make herself smaller. Here is one of the most powerful wolves in our pack being cowed by an ungrateful asshole who has already hurt her enough because he is her mate. Gritting my teeth, I do what I can to keep my temper. I understa
