Chapter 11

EMILIA POV Who does he think he is?Normally, I was supposed to place thousands of calls and messages to Tristan, even when I knew I had done nothing wrong in this case. My mind was made up, and there was no way I would stoop very low to make such a mistake—not after what Orion told me about him. My life seemed to have become better these days and there was my job in DE ROYALS, keeping me from too many thoughts. I should make new friends. Maybe not. The last time I checked, it was a friendship that led myself and Tristan into being in a relationship I believed would last. Now what? I sipped from the glass of juice in my hand, a grimace on her face.Suddenly, my phone rang. I jumped to my feet and rushed inside from the veranda where I was seated. Without hesitation, my hand touched one of the couches and there was my phone. It was a number I had never called, nor received a call from. In shock, I gazed at the screen of my phone as I contemplated whether or not to take the cal

Chapter 12

ORION POV It was one of those days when the Alpha wanted to address the members after a brief meeting with us. All his sons were behind him while he headed out of the pack, to our next destination, the compound. “All hail the Alpha!” The guard at the gate of the Manor yelled, watching members who were around us, turn around and bow their heads. “Long live the Alpha.”Father nodded. He managed a smile on his countenance and when I turned around to check my brothers, I discovered that one of us was missing. “Wolves!” He took a seat on the throne that was dragged out of the hall, moping at the members one after the other. “Welcome to the gathering. You may sit on the floor if you want to.” He told the wolves who nodded, while some did as told.“As you all know,” he began. “I have called you here to let you know what is to happen next.” He mouthed, turning around and saying a word to the guard who stood beside him. The guard lifted his head and met my gaze before heading in my di

Chapter 13

ORION POV Before I left the Pack, I picked up the card from the drawer where I kept it. After which I drove into the streets of New Orleans. The address given to me was a familiar one, and locating the house was not a hard task. In less than one hour, I arrived at the gate of the largely looking compound and my hand picked up my phone from the space where it was kept and I dialled the number. “I have arrived at your gate,” I announced to Emilia before ending the call, not caring to hear what she had to say. After a while of waiting, the gate opened. “Drive-in, sir.” The man at the gate urged. He was wearing a uniform and looked quite old.His words made me laugh. “No,” I shook my head. “I did not come to drive in. Besides, the woman I have come to see might not want that.”“I don't bite, Orion Ironclaw,” Emilia showed up at the gate. “Drive in already.” She urged with a smile that came alive on her face. What could I say at this point? If the woman who I came to see asked tha

TRISTAN POV Until now, she was yet to reach out to me. At this point, I didn't care much about it. My business in the meantime was meeting with one of the senators in New Orleans, while I delivered my goods to him. I headed out of the pack this morning, after recovering from the split headache that disturbed me the night before. My legs led me to my car with the box I held tightly so it was not jerked from my hand. “Tristan!” Someone called, causing me to turn around. Who else would it be if not for my twin? Now I managed a smile on my face, gripping the box even tighter. “What is it, Orion?” I asked the man who walked closer to me with obvious disdain on his countenance. “Where are you going?” He asked. “I need to meet with someone in the city, Orion,” I said, heading to my car. “Do you want something?” I asked, stopping in the front of my seat and meeting his gaze again. “Yes,” he mouthed. “No.” He said again and turned around. “I wanted you to drop me off somewhere in th

Chapter 15

TRISTAN POV We drove out of the warehouse's space after putting on our masks and covering our identities. Into the street, we went, with the car whose glasses were tinted. The address was inputted in the map built with the car and we drove past streets, headed to the given address. Who knows? Today's meeting could end well or not. I wondered, watching the man on the wheel do a good job. Why wouldn't he? The last time I checked, I promised to cut off the head of whoever went against my order to implicate us. “Let me have his number,” I told the man who was seated next to me. “He must know of our arrival,” I mumbled and a phone was given to me. “There are many numbers here!” I cried, handing the phone back to the man. “Which one of them is to be called?”The young man handed the phone back to me. “The first two numbers are his, master,” he said and I nodded, dialing the first. “Please, drop a message.”I ended the call and dialed the second, hoping the call was taken. “Hello?”

Chapter 16

ORION’S POVI climbed out of the elevator with a hitch in my breath for no reason in particular. All right, maybe I had a clue why I was all giddy and anxious, and maybe, just maybe, it had everything to do with the fact that I’d shown up at Emilia’s place without any prior notice or invitation from her friend.Admit it, Orion, you’re way over your head for this girl.My lips twitched into a smile at the thought. It didn’t matter to me that she had been with Tristan in the past. He had, after all, treated her like second-class garbage material, at least from what I’d heard. And frankly, it was no news to me.I covered the distance from the elevator to her doorstep in a couple of long strides, feeling my anxiety give way to what appeared to be excitement and anticipation. Emilia had been unusually nice to me the last time I’d stopped by, and that had, in fact, informed my decision to visit her again.I tapped gently on the door while my eyes darted to the doorbell sitting squarely on t

Chapter 17

TRISTAN’S POVI planted my gaze firmly on the senator, holding his stare with what I hoped to be my best impression of a mean don't mess-with-me look. From the look of things, I’d say he was buying it. His lips were pursed in deep contemplation as his hands gently stroked the small goatee on his chin.Judging by his looks, I’d say he also made his money dubiously just like I did, only that he had the protection of the law and probably had a good number of top officials like himself on his payroll. Now that’s true power.I nodded to myself at the thought.“So what’s it going to be, Mr. Senator? I haven’t got all day, you know,” I let my lips curl up in a small smirk.“Very well then. I see you’re a serious business person, much like myself. You must know that this thing you ask is beyond my…” the senator had begun speaking again, but nothing he was about to say felt appealing to me.“I don’t suppose you believe that I’m buying your bullshit about the government needing my product for

Chapter 18

EMILIA’S POVI watched him eat his breakfast peacefully, with a permanent smile plastered across his face. It left me wondering if his cheeks would hurt from holding a smile for that long. I found it strange that two people could look so alike, and yet be as different as night and day.Orion had a more thoughtful aura around him than his twin brother did. I saw a glint of awe in his eyes when he looked at the paintings. It felt like we were kin spirits from some past lifetime, however un-explainable that seemed. I felt all the more intrigued by his person with the question ‘who are you, Orion?’ flashing through my mind as I observed him.And even now, as he ate his breakfast, my eyes traveled round his body, committing to memory every swell, every curve, and every inch of muscle. His fingers were long and elegant, crowned off with squarely trimmed finger nails, which testified to some good attention paid to them by his manicurist. His dark hair suited the frame of his face perfectly a

Chapter 19

ORION’S POVI stepped out of the entrance to Emilia’s apartment building with the wind underneath my arms. I felt like I could soar in the sky and just take off, high into the clouds where dreams were rumored to come true. I nodded with a friendly smile to the security guard at the entrance, and he seemed to see the true meaning behind my smile as he returned it with one to match.I stepped onto the busy road and flagged down a taxi. I took my phone’s silence to mean the engineer in charge of the auto repair facility where I’d had my car dropped off the previous night wasn’t done with it yet. I considered ringing Tristan up to hitch a ride, but instantly decided against it. He knew how to pick an offense easily, and I wasn’t ready to sit through a ride with him while he complained about how I was being a disturbance to his peace. If there was a part of Tristan I had come to understand he hated so much, it had to be the fact that there was another living, breathing person in the world

Chapter 20

TRISTAN’S POVI could feel the wolf within me threatening to burst through my skin at any instant. All I just had to do was focus on the hate that I had for the man sitting before me. We looked so alike, a trait I never particularly adored, and it more than infuriated me to look at him.It hadn’t taken much for me to put two and two together, to figure out that my brother had indeed gone to see Emilia. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t care, not even in the least, but this was Orion, my sworn competition. The moon goddess has to have made a mistake sending us to Earth as siblings, because all we ever did was disagree. Maybe it was mostly me choosing not to see eye to eye with him, but what did it matter? He was weak and spineless where I was strong, and it didn’t matter to me what anyone else thought about my opinion. A kind heart is prone to hurt, some wise sage said that, and he couldn’t have been any more correct.“I’m sorry, I didn’t quite get your question,” my brother, Orion, replied with
