Chapter 81

I didn’t know what to expect the next time I saw Lily but I had not expected open hostility. The female protagonist looked at me like she wanted the ground underneath to open up and swallow me whole. It was a lot different from how she always looked at me and I suppose it was to be expected. There was not much to be surprised about, really.“Hey, Lily…” I was going to talk to her, to apologize to her because no matter what, a part of me still felt guilty but she entered her room and slammed the door shut. It was not before I heard a sob crack in her throat.“Are you still trying to be friends with her?” Xander asked as he opened the door. “You told me you didn’t have any more interest in her. I hope you were telling the truth, Selene.” There was a warning in his tone.“I was going to apologize,” I said as I stared at Lily’s door. “She seems upset but there’s nothing I can do.”“Stop worrying about her,” he said.It was futile to continue to worry about Lily. I already decided that we

“He came to check in on me.”I hadn’t done anything wrong but I felt incredibly guilty just for having Seth in my room. We were alone and he was giving me a massage. To someone as possessive as Xander, this could be a problem. The fact that he was smiling did not provide any relief. If anything, it made me even more nervous.“That’s nice of you,” Xander said. “I’m relieved to know she has such a good friend looking after her.”“It’s whatever.” Seth lost all semblance of friendliness.“As you can see, she is fine.” He put his hand around my shoulders. “I’m taking good care of her, aren’t I, Selly?” He bent his head to stare at me and I could only nod.“I’ll be on my way then.” Seth did not need to be told twice to get the memo.He left without a backwards glance, shutting the door softly behind him. Once the door was closed, Xander’s hand fell from around my shoulder. He sat as he took off his shoes without saying a word.“Are you mad?” I asked when the silence in the room stretched.“

Despite paying attention as I asked him to, there was no suspicious movement from either Lily or the Blood Moon pack. Xander told me I was overestimating Lily and that no matter what the Blood Moon pack planned, they were not strong enough to be a serious threat to Silver Moon. They would tread with care if they cared for their pack’s safety.I was not a political genius and couldn’t say I was particularly knowledgeable about the politics of this world so I trusted him and let things go to the back of my mind.Examinations rolled by and then the semester came to an end. My first exams were brutal and met me crying more often than not. I was happier than anyone else to see them go but it fueled my determination to take my studies seriously. If I was already under so much pressure when it was only my first year, I couldn’t say how bad it would get in the future.“You’re home.” My father came to greet me as I got out of the car.“Hello, Beta Seb,” Xander greeted him but he completely ign

It wasn’t my imagination. Lily was in fact up to something. She may have been bidding her time until now but it was starting to take shape and I could clearly see what she was doing. It was the same thing I did in the last life. The same method of isolation I had tried but failed to perfect. The female lead had truly gone bad.“You’re thinking of Lily again,” Xander said as he burrowed into my skin. “Just focus on me. Even if she’s working with the Blood Moon pack, there’s little she can do.”“Yes but we have to thwart her in time.” I couldn’t explain to Xander how I knew the things I knew or that I had been the one to devise this method in the last life so I didn’t have much of a backing. We had to crush Lily fast and hard. This time there would be no regrets. If she had continued to be the docile and charming female lead I knew and loved, I may feel guilty but if she was putting Xander and

“Selene,” Alpha Liam greeted me with an enormous smile on his face that made Amy and Bella uncomfortable.“Good Afternoon, Alpha,” they both greeted him, lowering their gazes as a sign of respect.Amy had her hands clasped together in front of her in a tight grip to stop them from quivering while Bella didn’t raise her eyes even after Alpha Liam accepted their greetings with a gracious smile.“To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?” Alpha Liam asked, putting down his pen.He must have been excited to see me since he was even taking time off work to give me an audience despite how I barged into his office without an appointment.“Have you heard there are dissenters in the pack?” His playful smile fell from his lips.“There are what?” He asked, tone harder than rocks and eyes terrifyingly red.“Dissenters,” I said. “In this pack.”&ldq

LILY’S POV“B – but won’t all this affect him?” I asked Logan as he laid out the next step of our plan. “I want him back but will he ever give me a second look if he finds out that I’ve been doing all this against him? I kind of feel bad.”When Logan said he’d help me, I didn’t expect anything pretty. Selene was the enemy here so why did we have to attack Xander? If we continued to spread these kind of rumours, his position as Alpha of the pack would be in jeopardy. Besides, most of the things Logan was telling me to say about Xander were lies. Was that okay? I didn’t want to compromise who I was and ruin my mate’s life for selfish reasons.“Don’t forget he rejected you,” Logan snarled, losing patience with me. “If you can’t play dirty like Selene, don’t even think you can get with Xander.”The things Logan was asking me to do

Lily was no longer in Silver Moon but I heard she was now in Blood Moon. It confirmed my suspicion that she was in cahoots with Logan. The enforcers at the borders had confirmed they saw her around the border, close enough to our pack but not quite in it. She must be hoping to glimpse Xander who was currently inspecting some borders. It was as if she heard and thought she could run into him and perhaps plead her case. I couldn’t say what was going on in her mind and couldn’t concern myself too much with it as my attention was now on halting her next plans.Since Alpha Liam addressed the rumours, there had been a fast decline in how people talked trash about Xander. To improve his image, he was doing a lot more public work and it was putting a strain on him but he went on with it with a rock-hard face and pretended he wasn’t exhausted. The damages done by the rumours were inevitable. It was not as severe as Lily would wish but for the first time, some

Chapter 88

These days, I barely saw my father so I knew that Alpha Liam was hard at work. He left at the crack of dawn and never returned earlier than midnight. A week later, when Alpha Liam and Xander were not telling me anything about the progress of the project, talking about not trying to worry me, I turned to my father.“Selly, why are you awake by this time?” My parents were surprised to see me come out of my room at well past midnight.“It’s so late at night,” My father said. “Go to sleep.”My always robust-looking father now looked like the life had been sucked out of him. He gave off a hawkish vibe with his hollow cheeks, thin face and dark circles around his eyes. Stress was etched into his furrowed brows and the very crevices of his skin. How could a man change so fast and so much? If he was not my father, I would think he was a man who had been sick for years.“You don’t look good,” I blurted as

Chapter 89

LILY’S POVWhen Logan said that once Xander’s reputation was at stake, he was sure to be dissatisfied with Selene which would cause them to grow apart and ultimately break up, I didn’t know that it would work. I had hoped it would but I naturally had my doubts. For the past week, Logan had been doing things he didn’t tell me and even the atmosphere around his pack was tense. I didn’t know what was happening and no matter how often I asked, Logan only told me not to bother him so I let the matter be. It wasn’t my pack, after all.I tried to reach out to Xander to make sure he didn’t completely forget about me while we were apart but he rebuffed me.I was in the guest room of the pack house when my phone rang. It was one girl who had become my 'friend.’ I used the term ‘friend’ loosely because she didn’t really like me. She was just with me because she hated Selene. You know they say the enemy of your enemy is your friend and Sarah was just like that. She had no personality, no interest

Chapter 90

“You can’t call me when you’re outdoors, Xan.” I had not known it but Xander was more attached to me than normal.“Selene, how long do we have to keep this up?” He asked over the phone, his tone tight with exhaustion. “She told me some irrelevant things, things I would know even without having to put up this rouse. Why are you doing this to me?”It had been three days since Xander and I ‘broke up’ and since we were broken up, we couldn’t risk anyone seeing us together so I didn’t go to see him and I forbade him from coming to see me. He was on the phone with me for several hours a day because he missed me but I warned him that we could not be on a call when he was out and someone could overhear our conversation. This was one thing he was having trouble complying with. It felt like I was roasting him from the inside.“If she doesn’t say anything useful by the weekend, we’ll drop the act,” I promised. His frustration made me frustrated. I hated feeling like I was being mean to him or th
