chapter 31

LYNEXIA As Dimitri holds the door open for me, I ask. "Don't you have Alpha stuff to do, today? How are you going to make time to train me, every day?" Apart from the fact that Dimitri isn't my favorite, the other reason I don't want to train me is because I assume as an Alpha, he has much on his plate. "Trust me, I have a lot to do but I'll make time for you always." He drawls. I scoff, crossing my arms. "Is that supposed to make me feel special?" "It should." His lips curve into a half smile. I roll my eyes. "Goddess, I want to claw your eyes out so bad." "Patience, butterfly." He chuckles, a deep, rich that slides down my body like velvet. "You will get your time." I stare at him, momentarily speechless. "You are so unbelievable." As we step into the narrow path, flanked by towering trees that form an arch, Dimitri places his hand on my lower back. Surprisingly, I don't attempt to shove him away from me. Besides, I need to start learning how to tolerate him since

chapter 32

DIMITRI When our training began, Lynexia was so bad, I often felt like tearing my hair out. But for four days, she has improved more than my expectations. Not only that, she has also begun to warm towards me. Lynexia's sneers and biting remarks, though still there, have reduced. It's as if she secretly enjoys my presence. Though, I know I'm just being delusional, a part of me cannot but hope that maybe we are not broken beyond repair after all. Even more surprising is the sight of her genuine smile. Though she quickly masks them with a scowl, I can't help but savor the moment she lets her guard slip as fleeting as it is. As usual, we went through a series of drills today which Lynexia is very obliged to do. She is determined to learn combat and I'm proud to see it. Though some of the training sessions have been hard, and it's been hard to see her struggle for anything at all but that hasn't made me go lenient with her. Knowing Lynexia, she will claw my eyes out and feed the

chapter 33

LYNEXIA So far my training has been going well. I have been tolerant of Dimitri more than I anticipated. And to be frank, Dimitri is an excellent trainer. He isn't lenient on me for whatever reason and so far he has not treated me like some fragile girl who needs to be pampered. Instead, he has trained me like he would any trainee. I have been proud of the progress that I have made so far. Without my wolf, I feel a tad secure that I can defend myself to an extent. It's probably me just being cocky but I don't exactly fear someone throwing me on the ground at this point. My wolf is still not responding to me, though I feel her inside of me. I'd have been contemplating informing Dimitri but was scared of how he would judge me. More than anything, I'm scared of people's scornful words and I can influenced easily by it but I'm trying to not let this be so. I'm draped in an off-shoulder red silk dress,—courtesy of Julianne—waiting for Dimitri's arrival. If Julianne was born in the

chapter 34

My body stiffens as the man halts in front of us, my hand going to the silver blade hidden within the folds of my dress. Thank goddess my dress is a flare. It makes it easy to draw out the blade. The man's crooked nose twists as he speaks, his gaze fixed on Maia. "The boss wants you now."The boss? Who is the boss? Maia licks her lips nervously, her eyes, heavy with panic. "I'm sick at the moment, I'll see him some other time." The man hisses, his voice holding a heavy stain of disdain. "That is what you said, yesterday. You can't escape this time." I watch their interaction, my confusion mounting. Why will a random man demand the Luna of a pack to come meet him? "I have a guest and I'm giving her a tour," Maia says shakily. The man hisses again. "She is sick. Tell the boss or whoever he is that she won't be able to meet him." I sneerThis is when the man turns his attention to me. He sizes me u

chapter 35

LYNEXIA In the dim light of the car, my stomach grumbles with a pang of guilt and frustration at the thought of what Maia is going through at snowcrest pack. It makes my heart hurt and I feel a hint of regret that I'm not in a post to help her even though I know there is nothing I could have done about it. Beside me, Dimitri grips the steering wheel, his gaze fixed on the road. Kilowatts of fury radiate from him, visible in the taut line of his jaw and his tightly set shoulder. No word has been said between us since we left Mooncrest pack. Shit. I almost forgot that I ruined his meeting. I was supposed to find information, but instead, I caused him trouble. "I'm sorry." I manage to choke out, swallowing my pride. "Don't be." He answers sharply, still not sliding a glance at me. "I should be." I press on." I ruined your meeting. Please tell me your partnership with Akexio didn't fall through because of me?" I bit my lips as I turn my head slightly towards Dimitri. "No.

chapter 36

LYNEXIA When I and Dimitri get to the Richards family house, a small crowd has gathered in front of the house. Dimitri didn't want to bring me but I insisted, leaving him no choice. As Dimitri and I exit the car Gavin and Seraphina approach us. Dimitri wastes no time. "What happened?" He asks. Seraphina side eyes me as if wondering why I am here but I pay her no mind. "He was slashed in the throat with a knife. Just like Julianne." Gavin's voice is strained as we emerge into the Richards family. "Where is he?" Dimitri asks. Gavin's expression is enough answer. He didn't survive it. "He wasn't as Lucky as Julianne. When it happened, it was only him and his six-year-old daughter that were at home." "Did she witness it?" I blurt out. My stomach grumbles at the idea of a six-year-old watching those horrors. Gavin's face is enough for me. "Oh my goddess," I whisper, my hand covering my mouth at the shock. "Where is she?" "With her mother. She hasn't said a word to anyone.

Chapter 37

LYNEXIA Three days later Dimitri hasn't come to see me. I expected him to be in Julianne's house the next day but to my surprise, he listened to me and stayed away. On the first day, I pretended I wasn't waiting for him while Julianne and I did our silly decoration day. On the second day, I stopped pretending that I wasn't boiling with hasty anticipation for his arrival. Every creak or sound, and every slight resemblance to his voice makes my head snap to the door. On the third day, I have finally given up. I don't give a two cents about him, showing up or not. As a matter of factly, I want him to stay the hell away from me so that I can keep hating him for all the things he'd done to me. The more time I spend in his presence, the more I feel my solid opinion of him wavering. Which I don't like. I have just spent two weeks here, my mind shouldn't change that easily. And I also promise myself to continue to hate him till death do us

chapter 38

LYNEXIA Dimitri is seated behind the desk, asleep while Seraphina stands in front of him, blocking the sun out with her hands over his face. My left hand balls beside me and a dark swirls soaring inside of me at this sight. I want to barge in and shove her hand away as she begins to trail her finger down the length of his face. How tired does he have to be to not realize someone is touching him? When I can't take it anymore, I clear my throat loudly. Seraphina flinches away from Dimitri, turning her startled gaze towards me. Her expression looks like a deer caught in front of a headlight. She gulps visibly before she walks across the room and outside to come to meet me. "Hey, Lyn." She says with her usual unfriendly face. "What are you doing here?" "What can't I do here? I'm going to be the Luna and Dimitri is my Alpha." My throat scratches to say but I hold. That sounds like I'm jealous which I'm not. I don't care about Dimitri or if Seraphina has a silly crush on him. I

chapter 39

DIMITRI "I know who the throat slasher is going to kill next." I startle slightly at the anguish and somewhat anxiety in Lynexia's voice. First, because I was thinking about her walking back into the office the moment she walked out. I was mad at myself for letting her walk out of my office like I didn't care when all I wanted to do was to wrap her in my embrace and tell her how much I missed her though we had only been apart for three days. Acting like I was mad at her when I was in fact not was challenging. Staying away from her required all the restraint that I could summon. Even though I have been busy for the past few days, I still feel her presence in the hollow of my chest. Though I am not the type to stay away when she wants me far away from her this time when she called me disgusting, it ripped my heart apart and the hatred in her eyes startled me. it was like ice was doused on my gleaming hope. I was starting to think that me and Lynexia was heading somewhere but

chapter 40

DIMITRI "Go call them back in," I instruct Wren who nods and turns towards the door. Cradling Lynexia's face in my hand, I gaze deeply into her hazel eyes. How much I miss them so much. "You did good," I say and pull her head to my chest. She relaxes into my touch easily as if she has been waiting for my hug but I know better than to read too much into it. When my trainee instructors enters, Lynexia tries to withdraw but I hold her close, my thumb drawing circles on her cheek. If they are shocked about how I'm hugging Lynexia's head to my body they don't show it. Their attention is on the rough sketch. Zarek picks it up first, exhaling heavily as he studies the rough sketches. I caress Lynexia's soft cheeks. "Is the database ready?" My question is directed to Seraphina. "It is," Seraphina says arms crossed over her chest. "Though it is in its earliest stage." "But we can do a background check, right?" Caspian chimes in. "We should be able to." Seraphina nods. "What
