Chapter 91

“You are lagging in your studies, Jamie” Tasha removed her reading glasses and dropped it on her desk. “Talk to me. What is going on?”Jamie's marks had been below forty throughout the semester. Tasha became worried and asked him to see her. "Professor Harrison," Jamie stammered, "I've been struggling with the coursework. I need help.”Tasha set her elbows on the desk. "Of course, Jamie, I am here to help you" she replied. "Tell me more about the areas you're having trouble with."Jamie took a deep breath, and said, “strategic planning, market analysis, and financial management. Those are my problem areas.”Tasha checked the time on her wristwatch and smiled at Jamie. "I understand your concerns, Jamie," Tasha said. "These topics can be overwhelming at first, but they become clearer with practice and a deep understanding of the fundamentals.” Jasmine nodded, listening attentively to all that she was explaining.“I'm going to give you two books to read.” she stood up and walked to he

Tasha opened her eyes slowly on Saturday morning in her childhood bedroom. She felt relaxed and rejuvenated, having slept very early last night. As usual, Tyson had abandoned her immediately when they arrived at Sandville. He had gone home with his cousins, Tasha’s brother's kids. Checking the time, it was 4:16 in the morning. She parted the window blind. The outside was still dark. A bittersweet smile spread across Tasha's lips as she leaned back on her pillows. “Who would have thought that I would still be single…without a man by this time of my life?” Tasha thought, feeling overwhelmed by loneliness like never. She tried to block the thought away as always and returned to sleep. She didn't wake until one hour later. By the time she looked outside, the weather was already changing. She slid out of the bed and went to use the bathroom, after which left the room for the kitchen. As expected, her mother was there with a steaming cup of coffee in front of her. But she was just startin

“Thank you so much,” Tasha looked into Travis Franklin’s face. She was pleasantly surprised when he stayed back after the luncheon party her mother had thrown for her.The afternoon was filled with laughter, dancing, and heartfelt conversations. She was so grateful to her parents for always making her happy. As the party ended, people began to depart, leaving behind a sea of empty glasses and plates. Tasha's siblings and cousins had stayed back to help their exhausted mother clean up the mess. And Travis, too, joined them.“It's nothing,” he looked into her eyes, putting both his hands in his pocket. “Would you like to take a walk with me?” He asked. “Of course," she replied, her heart racing with excitement. “Let me just tell my brother I'm leaving the house.”“It's okay.” he rubbed his hands together. “I'll be waiting.”Tasha dashed into the house while he waited for her on the front porch. She returned a few minutes later and said, “let's go.”He stretched out his hand, and she to

“Oh, my goodness, Dr. Harrison is that you?” Tasha heard someone say in a deep baritone voice as she settled in the airline lounge, waiting for her flight to be called. Tasha looked away from her table. Standing there was one of her first students back in Cleverwood. He was in his final year when she started teaching there. “Parker!” she said excitedly. “Is this really you?”“Yes, Dr. Harrison,” he quickly corrected himself. “I mean, Professor Harrison, congratulations on your new promotion.”“Wow, Parker,” it surprised her that he knew about her recent promotion. “How did you know about that?”“Well,” He shrugged his shoulders and smiled. “It was announced in almost all academic journals. You are a goldfish with no hiding place, you know.”“So it's safe to assume you are a lecturer, too?”“Yes, Prof.,” he took the seat beside her. “I am with Hallmark College.”“Are you serious?” It surprised her to realize how close by they were. “Hallmark in Bay Point?”“Yes, ma'am.”“Wow, we are

Blake leaned back in his seat. He had been working nonstop since he returned to the office three hours ago. Now he felt so tired. He stood up and walked to the window. With both hands in his pocket he looked outside as the receding sun cast a shadow over the city. His back was really hurting. It had been two long weeks of board meetings, hours of discussing marketing shares and strategies for their services. “Damn, I need rest,” he muttered to himself, feeling like a cog in a machine. His mind went to Cassie, and he smiled. They hadn't seen each other for over three weeks, both of them had been terribly busy. They'd only called and exchanged a few text messages over the weeks. Now he needed to see her. Apart from the sex, he missed her so much; he had even been allowing his mind to see her to be more than a sex partner and he'd thought long and hard about it.His lips curled up in a smile as he turned away from the window and walked back to his desk to pick up his cell phone. He di

The first day of the conference had been a whirlwind, filled with insightful presentations and networking opportunities. Tasha h bid farewell to her friend Trevor and was making her way out the large lecture room when she heard Parker's voice behind her. “Here you are, Professor Harrison. Are you leaving already?”She stopped and turned back. “hey, Parker. Please call me Tasha.”“Yes ma'am,” he hastened to cover up the gap between them. They both resumed walking. It was a short distance to their hotel. “What about dinner tonight?” He asked with a little smile dancing on his face. Tasha's heart skipped a bit. She had been hoping all day that he would ask her again. "I'd love to," she replied, her voice a little breathless. “Great. When would you want to have dinner?” He asked as they crossed the road. She cocked her head to the side. “Is seven thirty okay?”“Absolutely.” He turned to contact her eyes. “Seven thirty it is.”“This boy is so confident,” Tasha thought to herself. “W

“Berkeley is not that far from Bay Point,” Parker leaned closer to her, his voice a soft whisper after the waiter left. “Would you mind if I pay you a visit one of these days?”A slight blush creeped up her neck. It was a feeling she hadn't experienced in a long time.“Why not?” She shrugged. “Just make sure you give me enough notice before you come.”“I'll do that.” He picked up his cutlery with a smug smile. As the night progressed, Tasha and Parker engaged in lighthearted conversations about the conference and their respective campuses. She couldn't believe how much she was enjoying herself in the company of a younger man. It was so different, so exhilarating for her.Tasha suggested they skip dessert. She insisted he needed to go over his paper before morning, as he was going to do his presentation after the coffee break the next day. “I think that's a good suggestion,” he opined. “I bet you don't have to read over your papers before presenting. You must have been so used to the

The audience rose to their feet, offering thunderous applause as Trevor concluded his keynote presentation to signal the end of the conference on the third day. Tasha had given the first keynote presentation in the morning and it was well accepted as well. “Thank you, thank you,” he looked at the audience with a gracious smile. “Before I take my seat, I would like to honor two outstanding educational luminaries here with us. Both of them had been very remarkable and endearing in their chosen career. And coincidentally, they were just recently promoted to the rank of full professors in their respective institutions.”Trevor looked around at the faces of the people sitting in the hall. “Without further ado, I would like to call Professor Greg Stone and Professor Tasha Harrison to come forward.”Tasha blinked twice. She didn't expect it. She walked to the podium, along with Professor Stone. They were both presented with service appreciation award plaques. Tasha grinned from ear to ear a

Her mind was whirling with thoughts of Parker, who was in the opposite room. A confusing mix of fear and desire washed over her as she turned and tossed on the bed. Her body yawned for the man in the room opposite. Parker. Her former student and a younger man. A pang of desire stabbed her, a sharp, sweet ache was burning from her core. She wondered if he was already sleeping or thinking about her, too. “Parker,” she whispered his name in the darkness of her room. Then she heard a soft knock on the door. She was so sure it was him; her heart leaped, a joyous, frantic bird trapped in her ribcage. “It had to be Parker,” she thought to herself and scrambled out of the bed. There was another soft knock as she got to the door.“Who is it?” She asked tentatively.“Parker,” he rumbled from the other side of the door. She unlocked the door, and he was standing there with a slow smile playing on his lips. “I can't seem to fall asleep,” he said. “Me too,” she replied, her voice a warm care

Parker collapsed on top of Tasha, panting, extremely happy for finally being able to live out his dreams after all these years. When his breathing slowed down, he turned on his back to the other side and took her with him. So that half of her body was on top of his body. “You are so sweet,Prof.,” he beamed into her eyes. “You are all and more than I had ever dreamed about.” “You are really serious about thinking of me for over five years?” She asked incredulously. “Of course,” he kissed the top of her head. “I wasn't kidding you. It's the truth.”“Hmmm,” she tilted his face to her, “I am glad to have made your dream come through.”“I have been in love with you for the longest time, you know,” he confessed. “Only I couldn't muster enough courage to come to you all these years.”Tasha was lost for words. She only smiled at him. She saw he was deeply sincere with his feelings for her, with the look of adoration on his face. He cupped her cheek with one hand, and whispered again, “I d
