Chapter 91

Cassie POVDamian had tried - and failed - to persuade me against helping out, but he had eventually thrown his hands in the air proclaiming “well, I’m not paying you,” before he disappeared into his office, leaving me with a rather amused Terry and Benny. The guys seemed to be excited to have me back and kept throwing hints that it was “where I belonged”, and I have to admit that I felt more at ease there than I had in months. I even felt at ease when I felt, rather than saw, Vasilios step into the club. My awareness of him had certainly heightened, and I can’t be sure if it was because I was in love with him or not. “How about a tequila and your number, sugar?” a guy with slicked back hair and a gold chain around his neck breathed in my direction. I smiled politely and poured him his drink, not bothering to even speak to him as Benny took over seamlessly and finished the guy’s order. “Has that guy been bugging you?” Greg asked as he pulled up beside me, a frown on his face. I

Chapter 92

Cassie POVBy the end of my shift, I felt as if my stomach had been tied in knots as the realisation dawned on me that Vasilios was probably going to take me somewhere to talk. And that was more terrifying than facing a firing squad. The bouncers started doing a sweep of the club, guiding people to the door as the DJ shut down his system. I saw Greg tapping on Vasilios’s shoulder, scowling at him for not leaving the club with the rest of the party-people. “He’s with me, Greg. Damian knows he’s waiting for me here,” I called out, and Greg looked at me with a shocked expression before he glanced toward Damian as he stood on the stairs to his office. Damian came down the stairs and walked up to Vasilios, a slight smile on his face as he gripped Vasilios’s hand. “Apologies for not greeting you when you entered, Kythira.”“You were busy, Costa,” Vasilios acknowledged. “I understand the trials of this sort of business.” The two men seemed to be more amicable than they had been the last

Chapter 93

Cassie POVVasilios stood up, his face revealing nothing in his stone-like expression as he looked down at me. “I have loved you since the first time I laid my eyes on you, the scrawny baby who screamed louder than any other baby I had ever seen. I was your protector, your friend, your confidant, filled with brotherly love and affection.”He reached out and touched my cheek, the warmth of his hand spreading across my face as he continued.“Somewhere along our teenage years, that brotherly love turned into something else and I was ashamed that I was thinking of you in that way. The contract when you turned thirteen just solidified my displeasure at the situation I had been forced into - just to keep my father happy.”He abruptly let go of my cheek and my flesh turned cold as his eyes hardened. “I knew I had to chase you away, and just like that, you became unattainable. The woman I wanted but couldn't have because you were wolf-less and I couldn't possibly have a wolf-less Luna.” Va

Chapter 94

Vasilios POV“You're not really going to reject her, are you?” Amy asked with a serious expression on her face as she slid a tumbler of whiskey across the table to me. I shook my head, gratefully accepting the glass. If I were completely honest with myself, I'd barely managed to get those disgusting words out of my mouth. “I said what I did to make her realise that I wasn't playing a game. I love her, Amy, but I can't keep looking over my shoulder for signs that she will disappear again,” I admitted softly. She pulled out the chair opposite me and sat, a slight pout on her heavily made up face.”I can’t believe that she hadn’t even told me that she was back.”I lifted the glass and pressed it to my forehead, as if the alcohol was going to magically ward off the headache which threatened to spread through my entire skull. “She probably didn’t want you to tell me that she was here,” I mused before I took a sip of the amber liquid, enjoying the burning sensation as it trickled down my

Chapter 95

Cassie POVI guess that old saying about hindsight being twenty-twenty was pretty damned accurate in my situation. After my rather blunt phonecall with Elle, I lay in bed in the dark and thought about the last ten or so years of my life. There were definitely things that Vasilios was guilty of, but I would be lying to myself if I said that I was perfectly innocent too. One week to prove to him that I loved him and wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. It seemed like an impossible task when he was clearly so upset with me that he was even considering rejecting me. But he didn’t. He had had a thousand and one opportunities to be free of me, and yet he didn’t actually utter the rejection, and it made me question if he meant it at all. “He loves you, you stupid idiot,” I muttered to myself, flinging off my duvet and officially giving up on trying to sleep. The sun was already high in the sky and so I wasn’t entirely surprised when I ran into Damian’s companion in the kitchen, w

Chapter 96

Cassie POVGreg stepped into the room, a blank expression on his face as he closed the door behind him and leaned against it. “Greg! What is happening?” I croaked, my throat feeling scratchy and dry.“What does it look like, Cassie?” he drawled out casually.I yanked as hard as I could on the rope which tied me to the chair, but it was no use. The chair might have been a bit rusty, but it was still strong enough to keep me trapped. I saw a slight smile tug on the corner of his mouth as he watched me struggle, victory shining brightly in his eyes. “Greg, please let me go,” I pleaded, feeling tears fill my eyes. “No, Cassie. You're not going anywhere. You're mine! I own you! Nothing and no one is going to take you from me. I saw you first!” Up until that point I half expected him to suddenly laugh and tell me that it was all a joke. But the more he spoke the more things started to fall into place - the guy was batshit crazy. “Greg, I think you're mistaken,” I tried to say, but he

Chapter 97

Vasilios POVI kicked down the door to the abandoned warehouse, secretly grateful that I had something to take my anger and my frustration out on. The door splintered and broke free from the frame, falling to the floor with an echoing clatter.“Span out,” I ordered my men as they followed me into the cavernous room. It was pointless. I could already tell that Cassandra wasn’t there. I guess that I was so desperate to find her that I had started looking in places I was certain she couldn’t be. My men returned in waves, all shaking their heads sadly as they confirmed my suspicions. With a growl, I ordered my men back to the strip club to regroup. “Can’t you sniff her out?” Amy asked me as she patted my shoulder and set a drink down in front of me. I swallowed the bark of disbelief and raised an eyebrow at her instead, “what do I look like? A bloody german shepherd?” She shrugged, completely unfazed with my grumpy response. “Well the better side of you has four paws and a snout, so

Chapter 98

Vasilios POV“Boss, I don't know how he's managing it, but Maretti got away from us again,” my lieutenant muttered bashfully, rubbing the back of his neck. I slammed my fist against my desk, infuriated. “Again? Clearly I should be hiring him instead of you idiots!” My man flinched as I spoke, but I can't say his inefficiency was his fault. I'd neglected my role as vovoi since I became alpha, and there had been no one to ensure my men kept on top of their game.“Fuck it all! I'm going to do what you can't, and find out where this guy goes every night after work,” I fumed, my chair clattering backward as I stood up abruptly. Maretti was certainly not just some club manager. I had placed a tracker on his vehicle and was hidden in the shadows of the underground parking garage in the centre of New York waiting for his arrival. The garage was the only consistent place he parked the car, but it seemed as if his routes varied. “There is his car,” my man whispered to me and stepped further

Chapter 99

Cassie POV I groaned, feeling the nausea more sharply than I had in the days gone by. I wasn’t sure how long I had been locked up in the storeroom of what I could only assume was Greg’s home, but I knew that it was at least a few days. The chair I had been tied to had been replaced with a pile of blankets, which was an improvement I guess, since I could actually lie down a bit. But I was now handcuffed to a pipe which ran along the wall, so there was no escaping. Greg had been oh so kind and had left me a bottle or two of water and some sort of food item whenever he came to check on me, but it had become more and more evident that the guy was batshit crazy. My stomach grumbled and I looked down at the packet of uncooked ramen noodles Greg had “gifted” me with last time. With a grimace, I opened the packet and took a bite of the crunchy noodles. There was the familiar sound of a key slipping into the lock on the door and turning, before Greg stepped in with a gigantic smile

Chapter 100

Cassie POVGreg practically dragged me through the house and I barely had a chance to notice the state of the place as he pulled me toward my dreaded wedding venue. Lace and floral curtains, stained yellow with age, lined every window, and crocheted doilies were placed on every table. Linoleum flooring was mixed with pink, floral carpeting which clashed horribly with the curtains. Basically, the house looked like it had stepped out of the 80’s, and I guess that it made sense since it was owned by Greg’s grandmother. There was no sign of the woman, though. Even though I had assumed that she would at least want to talk to me a little bit before the actual ceremony. “Grandma is waiting for us with the other guests in the living room,” Greg told me when I asked, guiding me toward the music which was playing from a room down the passage. I swallowed hard and forced my feet to move forward, painfully aware of the gun still resting in Greg’s hand. I had to wonder what his grandmother wou
