Chapter 161: It's good to be back

“When I was younger and I used to see other children with their siblings, I used to get jealous as I wanted a sibling of mine. I had trouble making friends and I wanted my sibling to be my best friend. When I asked Mom why I didn’t have one, she would cry and with time, I learnt not to ask again. When she told me that I was going to have a brother and I found out it was you, I didn’t care that I didn’t like you or that we used to fight a lot. All I knew was that I was finally going to get a brother and best friend.”“Christian,” Dorian called but Christian shook his head as he wasn’t done.“Thank you, Dorian, for putting up with me for all these years. Compared to the two of us, you had a lot of friends but you never thought twice about sacrificing them just so you could hang out with me so I wouldn’t be bored,” he finally admitted. “You’ve never slacked on your work and you proved just how good you are when you were in charge while I was taking care of Mabel and I am so sorry I act

Chapter 162: George Lansley

It had been established that Dorian was a fighter when he survived being shot when he was a child and he proved it once again as about two weeks after regaining consciousness, the doctors gave him permission to return to work after constant bugging.“I was cooped up for two months and you couldn’t even spend up to two weeks at home,” Mabel jabbed at him on their way up to the office. “If I have to spend two months recovering by the end of it, you’re going to be treating me with one mental disorder,” he fired back.“So you weren’t already suffering from a mental disorder?” Christian gasped in awe.“Milk this all you want because when I do fully recover, I’m going to be coming for you,” Dorian promised his brother just as the elevator doors opened.“What’s on the schedule?” Christian inquired. “We have a meeting with one of your investors in ten minutes and that includes you Dorian,” Mabel informed him and he nodded.“See you in ten minutes,” he bid and they went to their respective

Chapter 163: Dinner

“Well, because of this,” Mabel replied and she brought out her phone to show Christian the article that had just been released about Kendra.Christian took the phone and he smiled as he read the article which was now about Kendra locked up in a mental institution after losing her mind.“Now the article says that it’s because Kendra couldn’t handle the pressure of what was happening to her and her family but I say it’s bullshit,” Mabel squinted her eyes at Christian.“What are you trying to get at?” Christian feigned innocence.“What did you do to her?” Mabel asked him bluntly.“A taste of her own medicine. Surprisingly, she couldn’t take the same medicine she gave to you,” was all Christian said in response.“That leaves Claire,” Mabel pointed out.“What better way to punish her, than to have her deal with the fact that her ploy to get you killed backfired and destroyed her entire family,” he smirked.“I like the way you think,” Mabel chuckled in satisfaction.****After his meeting w

Chapter 164: Found out the truth

“How did you get in?” Mabel wondered as she stared at Claire. She was sure that Christian’s parents would have made arrangements for adequate security so how did Claire manage to breach it? “Guards,” Reginald immediately called.“Call all the guards you want but I think you’d want to hear what I have to say especially as it concerns the death of your mother,” Claire sneered and her eyes fell on Christian who frowned as he could feel something was about to go terribly wrong.Mabel’s curiosity was immediately piqued and she got up to approach Claire. “What about my mom’s death?” She inquired. The rest of the family except Nala froze as they understood what was going on and what was about to happen. ‘Stop her,’ Dorian mouthed to Christian who quickly stood up.“Dorian throw her out,” Reginald immediately instructed his other son. “Alright, time to get out,” Dorian sneered as he rushed to where Claire was. “No wait, what about my mother?” Mabel asked desperately.“Pearson, you can’t be

Chapter 165: Anger

Christian’s breathing turned heavier even after he took his pills and he started to sweat even though the air-conditioner was on. The realization that the only woman he had ever loved now hated him sunk deeper and deeper and it rendered him unable to breathe, and he started to unbutton his shirt. He needed a cold shower to calm down and he went up to the room. As soon as the cold water touched his head, he shuddered as he was hit with the memories of what he did. Maya’s pleading rang in his ears and Mabel’s screams after he shot her mother. Everything had come crashing down. Mabel had found out and her words asking him not to touch her played at the back of his head. The fact that she didn’t yell or even cry made him realize that he had broken her and he couldn’t even try to talk to her as she needed time to process her thoughts.‘I’m sorry, Mabel. I didn’t mean to,’ he apologized and for the first time since that incident sixteen years ago, tears rolled down his eyes as he knew t

Chapter 166: Protecting her.

“I know you're hurting right now, but there's something we need to get to the bottom of,” Dorian told Christian.“How Claire came to know that I killed Maya,” Christian stated and Dorian was shocked to see that Christian had caught on to that detail. He had caught on to that since the moment Claire revealed it but he was too preoccupied with Mabel to focus on that. Maybe it was time for a distraction.“Let's go find out how she knew,” Christian stated and he turned. Dorian who understood that his brother wanted a distraction nodded and followed him. “Where is she?” Christian inquired. “Right at the restaurant,” Dorian replied. He wasn't stupid enough to risk bringing Claire to their mansion as there was no telling what other trick the woman had up her sleeve. He could have found out the truth himself but he decided to let Christian do it as he knew his brother would want to be the one to do so. “I'll drive,” Dorian told Christian as he grabbed Christian's car key and they headed t

Chapter 167: Returning home.

Mabel sighed when she noticed the shadows under her door and she turned away from it. She noticed that Christian’s men had been following her from the restaurant and she chuckled. He was protecting her from whatever danger she was in but who protected her from him? At least she didn't love whoever wanted her dead but she loved him and he had broken her heart into a million pieces. Maya might have not been the one who gave birth to her but she was the one she had known as her mother her whole life and that wasn't going to change. Her mind took her to when she had woken up in the hospital after being in a coma. She hadn't remembered what happened back then and all she knew was that her mother died in her sleep. By that time, she had been buried and Mabel smiled bitterly as she didn't get to say goodbye to her mother. She didn't even know where her mother had been buried and it was all thanks to Anthony who promised her that he would demolish her resting place if she tried to find

Chapter 168: Stay away from me.

Mabel's eyes slowly fluttered open and as they did, she was immediately hit with the emotional pain of what had happened the previous day. She had hoped that when she woke up, she would be in Christian's arms while realizing that everything was a dream but that didn't happen as everything was real. Not having the energy to stand up, she turned and faced the ceiling while thinking of the next step as she didn't know where to go from there. Mabel hissed as she realized that she was facing the consequences of depending on Christian for everything while not having anything of her own. She had allowed him to take control while staying back and now it had come to bite her. Firstly it had been her father and then Christian, she realized that she had never taken control of her own life but that was about to change. She needed all of her documents so she could start looking for a job as there was no way she would go back to working for Christian. Plus, she needed to start looking for a pl

Chapter 169: Alert her

“Hi,” Mabel greeted Nala as the latter slid into the seat opposite her. “Hey,” Nala responded as she took in her friend's appearance. Apart from the eye bags under Mabel's eyes, she appeared to be doing okay. “How are you doing?” She went straight to the point.“I'm fine, honestly,” Mabel replied. All she felt was anger as the pain she had initially felt was starting to disappear.“Mabel when you say ‘you’re fine’, it means you're not,” Nala stated as she knew how Mabel was. “Did you cry?” She then inquired.“No, I didn't,” Mabel responded as she flagged down a waiter to order a cup of coffee.“That's not a good sign,” Nala stated.“You're overthinking it, Nala,” Mabel brushed off her friend's thought.“The last time you didn't cry when someone emotionally hurt you deeply, he had a ‘freak accident’ and almost lost his life,” Nala reminded Mabel of what had happened back in high school.“Yeah, ‘freak accident’,” Mabel reiterated.“We both know that it was you,” Nala argued. “You're n

Chapter 170: It was an accident

Christian had not expected to find his parents in his house and if he knew they would be there, he would have asked them to leave as he could feel Mabel’s anger. When he turned to look at her, he noticed that her fists were clenched and she had turned red. “I know we've not always been on the best of terms but I’m requesting that you hear our side of the story,” it was Kate who broke the silence. “I'm not interested,” Mabel told her. “So what next, are you going to point a gun at my head like your husband did?” she jabbed and Reginald sighed.“Me pointing the gun at you was the last thing you saw before you lost consciousness and I'm not denying the fact that I had indeed wanted to kill you back then,” Reginald stated and he paused.“But I couldn't and even though you might not want to hear it, the only reason why you're standing here is because I saved you.”Christian frowned as he didn't want his father to be passive-aggressive to Mabel. She was still very much pissed and he didn'
