51: WE'RE HERE

**LISA’S POV**Although I had vowed never to set foot in that pack again, I couldn't stop thinking about Marien and how she was handling everything on her own. Even though Kyle had been nasty and arrogant with his words, I still found myself wondering how she was doing. For a moment, I considered going to help. But then, Ronan and the painful memories of how the pack had treated me pulled me back. A part of me wanted to rise above it and offer help, but I was tired of being the bigger person, doing what I thought was right, and getting nothing in return. All I received was mockery and disrespect. I am a woman of my word, so when I said the deal was off, I meant it. Even though I said it in the heat of the moment, I still stand by it.But despite all that, I couldn’t silence the little voices whispering in my head. So when Ronan came to me himself, the only reason I agreed to follow him was because I wanted to help Marien. If anything, she had been a friend of my mother’s. The deal he

52: THE HEALING

**LISA’S POV**It took me a few minutes to clean up and sanitize. With my hair fully tucked in a cap and a face mask covering my face, I walk into the surgical room. It’s a huge room with large glass windows. In all my years as a surgeon, moving from one operating room to another, I’ve never been in an operating room with such large windows. However, I find it very clever. This isn't like the typical surgeries I do almost every day in the hospital; this is more of a traditional werewolf healing ritual. We need as much moonlight as possible in the room to aid in the healing process.Back in the day, this would have been done outside, right under the moon. But to avoid the risk of infection, this is the most clever option we have.Slipping on my gloves, I turn to Marien. “Are you ready?”“I always am,” she smiles.“We need to start right now because we don’t know how long the blue moon is going to last when it appears.”“Of course.” The blue moon is quite tricky. Sometimes it appears fo

53: ITS NOT A CREEP

**LISA'S POV**“You should go get some rest, dear. I’ll be here monitoring him till the morning,” Marien says as she walks back into the room.“You know, old people need more rest than the younger ones,” I tease her.“Well, this old lady is nothing like those old ladies in your human world,” she jokes, opening the door. “Now out! I left you a towel, and there’s some tea in the healer’s quarters.”“Okay, ma’am,” I chuckle before leaving the room.I return to the still room where I kept my bag. It's a good thing I brought another outfit. I take it and walk to the bathroom, taking a warm shower and changing into the black sweatpants and long-sleeved t-shirt. I don’t know why I thought there would be a hair dryer in here.I shouldn’t have wet my hair; I should’ve waited until tomorrow when I get home. I try my best to dry it with the towel I found on the rack, but I’m too exhausted to keep trying. So when my hair is slightly damp, I take my bag and head for the healer’s quarters, hoping I

54: COOLER PLACE

**LISA’S POV**“Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I didn’t mean to hit you,” I plead, rushing to his side.I probably didn’t hit him that hard, right? It was just a silly stick; he’s definitely okay... well, I hope he is. I lean down to his level. “Are you okay?” I ask.“Who are you?” He gives me a confused look. What did I do? Did I hit him that hard? “Where am I? How did I get here?”What do I do now? Shit, I shouldn’t have resorted to violence; I should have thought it through before I hit him. I need to think now—what do I do? I don’t think I can take him back to the healers on my own.My internal conflict is interrupted by a hearty laugh that breaks the silence. “You idiot,” I say, slapping Jack on the shoulder.“What was that for?” he winces, sitting up from the floor.“You could’ve killed me,” Jack groans.“You almost gave me a heart attack! I thought you lost your memories!” I say, standing up.“In my defense, you almost did,” he smirks, arching his hand for me to help him up, but I sl

55: YOUR SECRET IS SAFE WITH ME

LISA’S POV"So, this is the cool place?" I cocked a brow at Jack as we stood in front of a log cabin in the middle of the woods. It looked old and a bit shabby, like it had been there for a long time."Don't judge a book by its cover, Lee," he said with a smile. I couldn’t help but laugh at the funny nickname he’d been calling me these past few days."I didn’t even say anything bad about it, you know." I turned to him with a little chuckle."But the way you said 'cool place' said it all." He moved from my side to the front porch. "We didn't walk all the way here just to stand outside." Jack grabbed a key from one of the flower pots on the porch and unlocked the door as I slowly followed him up the steps. When he opened the door, I was surprised. It was exactly as he said—a cool place. The inside looked nothing like a typical log cabin. The living area was spacious, with a large TV mounted on the wall. Off to the side, there was an arcade machine and a pool table, adding a fun vibe. A p

56: COME HOME

**LISA’S POV**“How are you, my baby?” I smile into the phone at Serge, whose face is tomato-red from crying all morning. I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye when I left two nights ago because they were asleep. As much as I wanted to go home yesterday, I couldn’t because, even though the surgery was a success, the blue moon hasn’t done as much as we thought it might. Alpha Garrett’s heart rate is still fluctuating, so Marien and I are trying to come up with a solution. Until then, I have to stay and help out. With Marien having some emergency back in her pack, I couldn’t even make the quick trip to my house and back like I planned yesterday. I have to stay and watch the patient while trying to come up with a way to get his heart rate back to normal.“The house is a mess,” Jessica called out from the background.Yesterday morning, when the kids started asking where I was, she told them I had a night shift to calm them down. By the evening, when I wasn’t back, they started throwing tan

57: YOU CAN’T GIVE IN

LISA’S POV“You have children, Lisa? When? How? Where? Why didn’t you tell me?” I almost laughed at his words. He dared to ask me that, after all the betrayal, after he lied to me and tossed me aside when he found his mate. Matter of fact, why the heck does he even care? I know his mate has probably given birth to two or more babies for him, so me having children should be the least of his worries.“Who said I have kids?” I say, my tone calm and calculated. I need to figure out how much of my conversation he heard. I hope he didn’t hear much.“I heard a child call you ‘Mommy,’ and you said ‘your babies.’” I gave him an amused look as he spoke. “Don’t even deny it, Lisa. I know what I heard.”“The thing is, Ronan, what you heard and what you didn’t hear are none of my business, and you are in no place to demand answers from me. I’m not here to catch up with you or be buddies with you again. I’m here because of our deal, and after all this is cleared up, I’ll leave this pack. I hope y

58: NEWS

**RONAN'S POV**I don't know what the heck is wrong with me or why I keep messing up when it comes to Lisa. I was hoping we could let bygones be bygones and move on. I thought we might be able to rekindle our friendship, even if we couldn't acknowledge our mate bond. But I keep messing things up. It feels like she detests me more with each conversation we have. Finding out she is a mother made me a little hopeful that they could be mine, but we were only intimate once, and it's been seven years. Her oldest child is five years old, so there's no chance it's mine.To make matters worse, she has a man. Hearing those words made my chest tighten. My wolf wanted to find the man and tear him to pieces.I know it's my fault she left, but I still hoped she was single. But I guess seven years was too long, and after what I did, she had every right to move on with whoever she wanted to.According to our contract and the promise I made, I don't have any right to try to force myself back into her

59: HOME SICK

LISA’S POV“Are you sure it's going to work?” Marien asks as we stroll back to the still room after checking up on Gareth, for the second time today since the last treatments. “It has to,” I state, opening the door to the still room. This has to work. After going through my mom’s journal, a quick call to one of my cardiologist friends, and using some old methods Marien found when she left for her pack, I'm determined to make this succeed. There’s a high chance he’ll wake up after this because every second I remember my kids are millions of kilometers away from me, missing me, and maybe even crying, it breaks my heart. And each breath I take in this pack smells like betrayal and danger. Just because I'm currently treating Ronan’s dad doesn’t mean I'm entirely safe. These people hate me, and I don't know when someone will get fed up with seeing me in their gardens and finally decide to finish the job. I need to get out of here, and soon.“What if it doesn’t—”“It will,” I snap, cutting

60: INTROVERT

LISA'S POVWhen we got to the room, I could hear a few voices coming from inside. Marien knocked on the door, and Ronan opened it.“Hello, Marien,” he said, stepping aside to let us in.“Hello there,” she replied with a smile.“Hello, Lisa,” he greeted me. I simply nodded in response the last thing I wanted was to start a conversation with him.If it were up to me, I wouldn’t be standing here with him. Every time I look at him, I can’t help but think about that brief moment we shared.Stop it, Lisa. Nothing happened. You're overreacting. He has a mate, for crying out loud.“Marien, Lisa, I want you to meet Alpha Xander,” Ronan said, gesturing toward the man in the room. He looked to be six feet tall or even taller, powerfully built, with a handsome face that screamed authority. I don't know where I've seen him before, but he looked familiar. Calm and collected—but I've learned that the calm ones are often the most dangerous.I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me he had a weapon h
