“Laura,” Don said in a small comforting voice as he walked to his sister’s side. “How are you?” Xavier stood by the door, watching everything unfold. Laura’s eyes never left his. It was almost as if she couldn’t see anyone else but him. “Xav,” she called out to him in a strained voice. “Laura,” he said simply. “You came,” she said with a smile. Xavier forced a smile on his face. Although he believed she deserved what she was getting, he couldn’t help but feel bad for her. It had been less than a week, yet she had slimmed down to an almost unrecognizable size.
