Chapter 51

*Keera*I stood in front of my dresser, closing the top buttons of my shirt as I prepared to get back to work. My wounds were almost healed and I was slowly losing my mind, lying in bed all day everyday. I was ready to get back to the case. The sooner we could catch the killer, the sooner I could return home. My stay in the pack hadn't been as horrible as I'd thought it would but I was more than ready to leave now. I didn't want to hurt myself more by sticking around and having to deal with Grayson and Ria.My team had managed fine without me but I was back now, and they no longer had to do all the work by themselves. Just as I was about to head out, a knock sounded on my room door, breaking the silence in the room. I hesitated for a moment before calling out, "Come in." The door swung open, and for the first time since I'd arrived at the pack, Ria walked into my room. I arched an eyebrow in surprise, determined to not let her know just how shocked I was by her presence. She hadn't ev

Chapter 52

*Grayson*I slowly paced back and forth in my study, my mind racing as I struggled to come to terms with the unthinkable truth. Asides Keera and her team, only the council members had been aware of the cameras in the pack, and Keera was aware of that. The fact that the camera had been tampered with could only mean one thing; A council member, someone I trusted, had to be working with the killer. The very thought sent a wave of nausea through me. The cameras were way too small to draw attention on their own.And yet they'd been destroyed. How else could the killer have known they were there in the first place if they hadn't already been aware of it? I pressed my lips together in worry. I didn't want to believe that one of the council members was in on it. I stopped with the pacing and poured myself a glass of whiskey, downing it in one gulp. The burn didn't ease my tension. I needed answers and I needed them as soon as possible. I sat down behind the desk, my thoughts drifting to Keera

Chapter 53

*Keera*I hurried out of the kitchen, a smile spreading across my face when I caught sight of Trevor standing in the Middle, his duffel bag slung over his shoulder. "Trevor!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms around him and wrapping him in a tight hug. He laughed, squeezing me back, the luxurious scent of his cologne enveloping me. No one had told me he would be coming to the pack. Seeing a familiar face made me realize just how much I'd missed home. "Hey, Keera. How've you been?" He asked, leaning back to study my face. I grinned, feeling a sense of comfort wash over me. Trevor was more than just my boss; he was a friend. I let him know I was absolutely fine, stepping to the side and the rest of my team walked out of their rooms to give him a warm welcome. My gaze drifted to Grayson who stood watching us with a loosely clenched fist.I felt a pang of unease. What had crawled up his butt? Trevor's visit was a surprise, but it wasn't unwelcome, and he knew how close Trevor and I were. I

Chapter 54

*Grayson*I'd been debating having a meeting with the council members. I'd trying to come up with ways to let them know the killer was near without letting them know just how near, because the truth was they weren't all involved with the killer. It was still my duty to keep those who weren't safe and I couldn't just leave them to themselves when they were completely blind to what was going on. I just needed to let them know to be on guard without getting them suspicious of each other, or worse, spooking the killer into hiding.I stepped out of my room, intent on grabbing a drink. I began heading to the upstairs kitchen but changed my mind at the last minute and headed downstairs instead. I was avoiding Keera and I didn't want to risk bumping into her. I was well aware I was acting like a dick but I still couldn't help it. Seeing her with Trevor yesterday had upset me and the image of her in his arms had lingered in my mind for a long while. I might end up mating with Ria in the future

Chapter 55

*Keera*I took my seat at the conference table, tapping my fingers on the desk and making sure everyone was present. "Alright, let's get started," I said nodding. "Josie, Kathleen, you guys paid a visit to the victim's home?" I asked with a raised eyebrow, flipping the file in front of me open. Elizabeth Turner, brunette, 5'1", sixteen. Hardly paid anyone any visits, was one of the quieter types, didn't get involved in gossip around the pack. I ran my gaze over my file, staring at the sentence I'd highlighted the night before which had caught my interest. She had trained to become Elena's volunteer but hadn't gotten picked.Josie leaned forward, her eyes locked on mine. "We spoke to the sister of the latest victim," Josie began, fiddling with the pen in her hand. She slanted a look at Trevor and the rest of the team before meeting my gaze again. "She mentioned that her sister had been acting strangely in the days leading up to her death. Her exact words had been," Josie glanced down a

Chapter 56

*Grayson *Her mouth opened and closed as she struggled to find words. She must have seen the determined expression on my face because she gave up trying to get me to leave. She looked wary, her shoulders tensed and her hands clenched together. I couldn't blame her. We'd been avoiding this conversation for too long and the tension between us had grown thick enough to slice through. It felt like there was so much catching up we had to do since the last time we had spoken no more than five words to each other.I walked further into the room. She folded her arms across her chest, unconsciously pushing her breasts forward. I gritted my teeth, forcing myself to focus on what was important. I didn't think I could leave the room without touching her, but if I tried to do that first she would definitely send me back in my way. I leaned against the foot of her bedframe, mirroring her posture and crossing my legs at my ankles. "How are you? Your wounds?" I asked, moving my gaze over her body.S

Chapter 57

*Keera*I gazed intently at the surveillance monitor, scanning for any signs of unusual activity. My eyes swept across the screens, taking in every detail. The hum of the machines and the faint glow of footages from the cameras we'd placed in the pack was a little soothing, even though my mind remained on high alert. I'd been doing less of field work, wanting to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity from the comfort of the house. More than that, I knew I had to be extremely careful.Someone wanted to hurt me, and they were still out there. My phone beeped, breaking the silence. I glanced down, my heart skipping a beat as I saw the notification - a file from our team back home. A surge of anticipation coursed through me. I made sure the surveillance monitor was receiving footage from every camera in the pack before picking up my phone. I opened the file, my eyes scanning the contents with a mix of excitement and trepidation. I read the subject of the file. Virus test results. My

Chapter 58

*Grayson*I patiently stood behind my desk, my eyes fixed on the door as I waited for Ria to arrive. The weight of our impending conversation settled heavily in my chest. She was not going to like what I had to say to her, that's for sure. Sadly, she was just going to have to come to terms with it. I had requested for her to meet with me in my study. I didn't think I wanted her presence in my room any longer and it was easier to have the conversation in the study anyways. It would make the discussion more formal. The door opened, and Ria walked in, her expression curious. I saw the wariness in her expression as she approached me. Her eyes scanned the room, searching for clues. "Grayson, what's this about?" she asked calmly. Her voice shook a little, betraying a hint of unease. I'd made my message cryptic so she would want to see me as quickly as possible. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the conversation. "Ria, I wanted to speak with you before the council meeting," I began,

Chapter 59

*Keera*I settled into my bed, exhausted from today's work. Kathleen and I had spent hours at the lab, trying to come up with a vaccine that would diffuse the virus and prevent it from being lethal. I'd only left on Kathleen's insistence that she was almost done with the vaccine and I could get some rest. She'd already been provided with lab rats to make sure the vaccine was safe before we went around injecting it into the bloodstream of every werewolf in the pack. I groaned when my phone rang, reaching across the bed to pick up the device. My heart immediately raced when I realized it was Gabe calling. We hadn't talked much since Trevor had left the pack. He'd just sent me a message to let me know Trevor had brought him up to speed with the case and he was going to silently dig deeper into Gusto's background and keep a closer eye on him without him knowing. I wondered if he was calling because he'd discovered something. I answered, my curiosity instantly piqued."Hey, Keera," Gabe sa

Chapter 60

*Grayson *I tentatively stepped into the conference room, my eyes scanning the space as all the organs in my stomach twisted into large knots. Papers were scattered everywhere, chairs were overturned, the control monitor had been destroyed and the usually tidy room was in shambles. "What in the world..." I trailed off. The place was an absolute and complete mess. I moved around the room, trying to piece my thoughts together. The room looked as though a hurricane had been trapped inside.Keera's expression was cold, her eyes flashing with anger at the state of her sanctuary. "I came back for my tablet charger and found this," she explained, gesturing around the room. Her team members were moving around, trying to save whatever they could. I could sense Keera's frustration, her anger. They'd finally been getting somewhere in the case and someone had tried to jeopardize the case. This was more than just an abnormal ransacking; it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage their investigation.
