Chapter 31

Raymond hurried towards the night blind alley, exhausted, dehydrated, and the adrenaline that had coursed through his veins earlier now fading and breathing in. He slowly stopped and now blindly walked and thought about his mission. It was accomplished, and he had delivered the message. That's what matters most, yet he was dreading the idea of leaving the young woman in the mansion.Raymond, look up; the stars filled the sky like pale corn on freshly turned ground. It was the promise of life in the darkness—a sense of warmth springing from the cold—that swept him to his skin. It was a vastness to bring humility and an eternal space to bring gratitude for the cosiness of home, yet he was far from home. No matter the years that passed, Raymond saw each night sky as a fresh gift given anew. It was the moment anyone who knew him would see his eyes smile and his breathing deepen just a little, yet the worry never left him. What happened to the mansion was not his problem, nor was it his mi

21st centuryEnglish Lake DistrictEnglandIt was dark when Tommy awoke. He peeked at the clock on the bedside table; it didn't surprise him to see that it was only 9 p.m. He'd decided on an early night after driving all day, but he couldn't sleep. No matter how many different motels in different towns he slept in, the beds were always the same. He could never settle. He guesses he was a creature of habit; he preferred his own bed on the few occasions his part-time job allowed him to sleep in it. But tomorrow he will go mountain climbing with a few friends, and he was excited. He was one of the old school students, a travelling adventurer, and his thesis and school could wait. He spent around two weeks of the year on the road trying to drum up his adventure self, driving from one rundown town to the next. Let's face it, there wasn't much call out in the sticks for what he was trying to do, though being an orphan and a master of everything, for that matter, had its perks occasionally.

They have no choice but to make a makeshift shelter. Through the dimming light outside, he could see the enormous flakes of snow floating to the ground. Chapter 34

17th CenturyFew weeks later.Late afternoon, Diana was awakened by the howls of the wild wolves from the woods. After a quick nap in the garden, her mind swum with a departing dream as she sighed. Reluctant to end her beautiful dreams, she began her night with the same dread of waiting for Andrew to return. It had been months, and Andrew had not returned. The light of late afternoon set as she slowly opened her eyes and brought her hands to guard the unwanted brightness from the garden lamp post.Diana surveyed the landscape and gazed down below the distant cliff. Far away through the land was a sliver of white, and the stars felt more distant in the coldness of winter. Sunsets came in the kind of oranges that bring warmth to her eyes and soul. It was early fall and still warm, but a chill went through her. This was the point of no return. There was no going back. She hugged herself, wishing she’d thought to ask for a wrap. Oh God! She was going to die here.“Milady, excuse me," Raym

Chapter 35

Andrew's group hurriedly sprinted to the scent of the feral werewolf. He knew it was Tomas. Diana murmured, "Andrew, can you smell what I—”“Yes,” he intruded.“We need to hurry.”“That is what we are doing.”She rolled her eyes.Breathing heavily, Raymond and Eve followed suit and reached the riverbanks in no time. Andrew stopped abruptly when he saw the massive creatures. A huge, vicious jet black werewolf with a broad body and stocky legs, a long snout, and raven shaggy hair with red, fiery eyes. It lay on the bank of the river and seemed like it was finally awake and now glaring at them. Slowly, he covered Diana with his body and told Eve and Raymond to back away a little. “Stay hidden. I will handle this.”"Oh, bloody hell no, Andrew, that thing is massive." Diana saw nothing like this before. The stiffness on its muscles told her the beast had been worrying; it was not just an ordinary feral, it looked at Andrew with a knowing, intelligent look.“Diana, trust me, Tomas is feral

Chapter 36

The warriors tossed young Elizabeth around among them. The leader shouted, "Who wants Alpha Jefferson's girl?" The rest of the crew shouted with delight as they howled in unison. They brought her to the stage as they toyed with Elizabeth, shredding her robes and pulling her hair. One of the cruel Wetland Pack warriors struck her on the cheek with a closed hand, bringing blood from her olive skin. “You deserve that whore!” One of the warriors smirked. It had been days since the rogue who attacked the Whiteland pack brought the alpha’s daughters. They exchange Elizabeth with swords, food, and gold. Now, hopeless and desperate to stay alive, Elizabeth grumbled under her breath. The three ugly warriors poked around her, and she began to scream to them for mercy. Her cries echoed through the dark woods where they had brought her to play their cruel game and have their sick fun. They would have their fill first before they brought her to the Devil's Forest.*****Whiteland PackMeanwhile, Al

Chapter 37

In the afternoon, when Alpha Henry arrived at the misty woods where Eve and Raymond camped, he shifted into his human form, butt-naked. He looked for something to cover himself and found a banana leaf and wrapped it around his exposed manhood. He tied it carefully around his waist and then whispered a safe passage to the hidden cottage of Eve. Few knew about it, yet he was one of those few who was fortunate enough to know the precise location of her hidden camp.Whispering words to the garlands, the foggy cottage was now visible as he knocked on the door and silently waited for Eve to open it. Surveying the surroundings, he noticed how the front door opened slightly and the enclosed, tiny stone porch carried the aroma of flowers and the warmth of the home. The old wooden veranda was where one would relax when the chance of a conversation with passing neighbours was welcome, but it was all covered in mud and drops of recent blood. On the left side, some plants reached up past the woode

Chapter 38

“Don't give me that look, Henry," Eve said annoyingly.Diana stood and looked at the alpha. “Yes, Eve was correct. Andrew and I saw him tied upside down in the tree, Alpha. We rescued him, and right now he was still not with himself; his soul was still with this man," Diana pointed to Andrew."I'm sorry, Milady, you mean that man is the—'' he asked disbelievingly. “Is that the legendary vampire Lawvosky? The ancient vampire?" Henry's eyes twitched in bewilderment. He was surprised; he heard so much about this legendary ancient one, though none seemed to see him or know him personally, but his legendary power and abilities were the talk among the supernatural. He was known to cloak his scent and be a master in disguise. He was also rumoured to be the only one who could travel in time and was cursed to eternity. He thought that if the unconscious man was really indeed the vampire Lawvosky, then he was indeed lucky to have such an honour to see him face-to-face, and even though the latte

The next morning, Raymond reached the other side of the valley. Behind him, below him, and ahead of him, it was all the same. Then he examined a bald eagle on the tree; it looked into the distance like it was contemplating something philosophical. If it wasn't just a bird in the early fall sunshine and feathers were as shiny, then he might believe that it was giving him a warning enough to give him goosebumps.Minutes passed, and he was almost to the mountain range when he heard a long whistle, signalling for something. He halted, breathless, as he scanned his surroundings, and his head snapped up. His brown, liquid eyes swirled in a stormy vigilance. What was that? He asked himself and tried to calm down. Raymond heeded the sound, and his eyes darted everywhere.Another whistle. He smiled. It was a whistle that he recognized. His fears vanished immediately, and he turned towards where the sound came from. A little smile graced his lips as the familiarity of it gave him wonderful memo

Eve's CottageThe blackness engulfed Andrew's thoughts. Stretching out in front of him like a map, the unknown surveyed his anxieties, his strength, and his understanding.Even though his eyes were closed, he couldn't think of why his heart was beating and his mind was empty. It was as if it had cleared a spike of adrenaline into his carotid. Second pass. His eyes opened like two searchlight beams, the new temporal inserts providing sufficient light to brighten whatever he looked at. It was like being shown the woods one tree at a time in some crazy memory game, but it was better than blackness. His energy sped up inside his head, but he wanted them to stop so he could breathe, but they wouldn't. Andrew's breaths came in gasps; his heart pounded inside his chest, though being a vampire doesn't mean he doesn't have a beating heart anymore.Diana?Where are you?The room swirled as he attempted to make everything quiet, but he was unable to keep everything silent. He was hurting from th
