Chapter 15

With that said, Ambrose walked back to his wife, carrying his plate of cheese and the goblet of wine. He grabbed a few final morsels, then left the buffet table too. There was only so long they could pretend to collect food. The countess was already watching him suspiciously. And he wasn’t the only one. Knight Leo, the spy, came to the banquet as well. "Ambrose, what were you talking about with the Countess?” Leo insisted as Ambrose halted beside him.“Oh, you know, we were dealing with conventional threats and conflict humor,” he answered back pleasantly, eating a piece of cheese. Leo's nose scrunched up in discomfort. He was simply not delighted. “Do not consort with the enemy Knight Ambrose.”“It’s just a pastime, Leo.”“You stupid little boy. Of course, it's fun, a silly bunter, but the games of vampires and witches are very real.” His hand clenched down on his wrist. “Don’t give the Church a reason to chastise you. Because when you turn their wrath on you, I will share in the pun

Chapter 16

Leo was confused as to why he unexpectedly felt too sleepy and exhausted. All the memory came running fast, emerging from his brain like a tidal wave. The best thing about him was his sentimental warmth, which isn't a drawback, it's a floor. It's the bedrock of who he was, of the person he was born to be. He was born gentle and vulnerable, he wore his heart for all to see, and it took strength to do that, but he was no longer smooth, now he was the hero of him; he was his champion. The disastrous course of his circumstances commenced that night. Two decades ago.The younger man lay on his stomach upon the ground of the large common tavern in the wardens' quarters. To Leo's right, a group of his associate off-duty guardsmen were assembled round the long, enormous oak table where meals were served --- playing cards and dice with much cursing and laughing. To his left, three more wardens sat by the vast fireplace. One immersed in rubbing oil into his tall, old black boots. One stabbing

Chapter 17

What was the mission to be? Were they escorting the lords to a dangerous appointment? Were they confronting rebels inciting revolt among the estate's tenants? Were they rooting out guardsmen from their lair? Would he be called upon to fight? By fist or by the sword? The Commander had ordered full gear, he must be prepared for anything. From the oak locker at the foot of his cot, Leo pulled his old leather weapons belt, short dagger, and sword. Enthusiasm twinged in his belly as he tightened the scabbards to the belt. He settled and confirmed an adequate store of additional small blades in the pouch on the belt.Uncovering the sensitivity of his dagger wanting, he drew out the honing stone and oil and set them upon the lid of the box. Placed on the edge of the bed with his legs straddling the corner of the lockbox, he began smoothing the blade, rhythmically drawing one edge rather than the other over the stone. The surprising turn of the afternoon's events was difficult to comprehend.

The second development was the baffling change in his mind and body concerning the lasses. Leo's existing impression of females as simply a weaker version of the feminine creature, who, for their proper protection, might benefit from his important strength, was replaced by an unaccountable fascination. Even as he was marking the changes in his own body, he had started to notice the difference, most alluring, the shape of girls. How had he never before appreciated the sweetness of a pink mouth and a curved figure? How beautiful it would be to put his arms around a maiden and kiss her! In a show with these thoughts, he encountered with surprise the emotions provoked in his body.Struggling not to shame himself, he attempted to contain his burgeoning interest in the fairer sex. Then the fantasies began and to his bafflement and humiliation, he could not control his body. On the content of this distressing dilemma, he was finally educated by the other lads of the streets, and with that ac

Chapter 19

The two unclothed young human-like creatures grappled in the village square yard shrouded by rows of stone columns. They wore nothing but pareu, an animal skin garment safeguarding their genitals from their harsh sparring. They were Monster Knight in their home in the village of Redberg on the eastern coastline of the land. They are the knights of the church, their army. Monsters, humanoid in form, they're uncouth, messy, dirty, disgusting, barbaric creatures with no sense of honor. The only times they do work together will more than likely resemble something akin to a horde than anything like a professional army. They exerted their continual competition of physical embodiment and prominence as new recruits in the reserves of the legion. Months ago, they were just ordinary humans, knights with no less than a common army but with the help of a powerful sorcerer, and with the blood of the beast of the underworld they evolved into something else more vicious than werewolves or trolls, t

Chapter 20

An hour later, Cornelius and Darwin stood at vigilance with a hundred other monster knight reinforcements assembling to unite their brothers in crusade north of the Redberg village. They had come from the surrounding townlets. Winterberg Village had been settled ages earlier when the nearby sea dwellers had left their residences in hunt of a new region and settled on the coasts of Munster Village. They were not particular sea dwellers but comprised of a species of supernatural lineages of witches, trolls, vampires, and even werewolves. These sea dwellers had rapidly stabilized their existence on the Munster Village and shortly commenced an invasion of the nearby townlet. They were fended off and so established a structure of enslavement under the human Lord’s permission. They became recognized thoroughly as Islanders and retained productive management of the entry to transferring passages to the rest of Europe, including the North and the South, for voyage and barter. The sea route fr

Chapter 21

The old wooden coffin was reinstated to the back of the battalion to be looked after by the attendant of their lords. The Redberg chiefs enjoined their men to take motivation to avoid retreat or they become captive to their vicious opposer. The Islander could see that the Redberg armies were scheming on overpowering them with an enormous assault of their whole armed battalions, comprising further reinforcements. It was a record of almost two hundred monster knight men. So, in acknowledgment, Islander called up every man in reserve to dispute that bombardment with close to two hundred of their own. In doing so, the Islanders called away from the whole regiment that sheltered the wooden coffin of the vampire in its own tent, leaving it and its league of five lords entirely unprotected at the rear of the troop.Cornelius and Darwin had found a hiding niche near there the night before when they explored the troop's activities. As soon as the battalions were immersed in battle, all awarene

Chapter 22

Near the auction houseDressed only in her decent chemise, a classic brown nightgown of low-quality wool fabric, which provides a flowing and flattering look with a frill at the neckline, Diana and Jenna hid behind a haystack in the midnight darkness. Inside a little cottage on the backside of the auction house, just a pebble’s throw away, the men from Winterberg Village were torturing someone. A young woman's screams echoed across the farm’s meadow.“Please, sirs! I speak the truth! I am not a witch.” The young woman let out a shriek, high and hideous. Diana couldn’t see what the villager's raiders were doing to her inside the cottage, but she’d sighted the blades in their hands a minute ago when the men came parading down the road."Don't you bloody intervene, Diana. We don't know about these people, and Tommy won't be happy.""Jenna, I just couldn't watch them hurting that poor woman. We need to help her.""Wait, I'll call Tommy. Stay here and wait for us to return. Don't make any d

Chapter 23

Redberg VillageAfter the banquet, Andrew went to his chamber in Camellana villa. He tried to clear his head as he woke. The old woman kept asking him why he didn't find a nice girl and make his own bloodline of a powerful vampire. He wants some, but hasn't found a woman he can get along with. His mate. Whoever or wherever she may be. When sleep covered his headache Andrew succumbed to the lull of nothingness.Dreaming.He was so thirsty! His throat hurts, and he feels so hot and uncomfortable. With that thought, He opened his eyes.'Why am I naked and lying on the sand? Why am I at the base of a cliff?' He asked himself? Anxious and confused at the same time.It was completely upright, possibly forty or fifty metres high. 'Where on earth am I?' Did he fall and hit his head? Or was he rock climbing again, and on earth was he naked? In a while, Andrew sat up, then slowly stood. It didn't feel like he was injured at all; after all, who could have endured him? He was a predator and never

Chapter 24

I carefully used a sharp edge of the broken bottle to gut the snake and remove the head. I peeled the bark off the sticks. It was very dry. Good! I shredded the bark up, and put it in a small pile, with the smallest sticks nearby.I used a piece of the broken bottle as a lens, and tried to get the bark hot, like a kid cooking bugs with a magnifying glass.I held the glass a long time, until my hand started to cramp up. I felt the bark. A small piece was hot, but nowhere close to igniting. There were no signs of smoke. I held the glass for at least an hour, but it just didn't work.I didn't have any string to make a bow drill fire. I had heard there were ways to just rub sticks together to make fire, but didn't know the details. I hadn't seen any flint around, and I had no metal to use it with anyway.I guess it was a raw snake, or nothing. But wait! Maybe I could slice it thin and dry it in the sun? It was worth a try! By the time I had it sliced in long, thin strips and set them on a
