"He once was g—!"

Victoria scoffed while seated on the chair in her office. She heaved a sigh from time to time, throwing files everywhere on the desk. There was no time and she was almost late to the meeting with Tricia. “Yikes!” A distortion appeared on her face. Heaven is aware that she would not bother dealing with these files herself if Mr. Steele did not tete-a-tete ask for them. The last time she inspected, she cared less about haggling with files and allotted them to junior staff whenever she had to. Her hands searched for an item on the desk and she picked up a Bic. “Yes.” She mumbled at the thought of getting done with the task, a sigh escaping her mouth. “Unto the next.” Anyone who passed by the office could hear her. Victoria got on her feet after a while. She walked to the window flank and caught up with the small fridge where she regaled herself to a bottle of refrigerated water. Without hesitation, she walked back to her seat and confronted the system before her. She no longer f

More Secrets

“What did you just say, Tricia?” A shocked Victoria questioned. Unable to take it all in, she sat up on the chair unlike moments ago when she was relaxed and nonchalant—with thoughts of Tricia about to spill an irrelevant information. Tricia smiled knowingly. “I expected that reaction, Mrs. Blackwell,” she nodded. “It is OK to be surprised. That was the aim.”“No!” Victoria shook her head. “You will not walk into this place and spill nonsense to me.”The smile on Tricia's face faded. “Do you think I walked from the Enterprise, abandoning assignments to be attended to, to come here and give sham information to you?” She asked. “Is that what you think, Victoria Blackwell?”A confused Victoria relieved tension back on the chair, once again. There was a lot that went on in her head and when she glanced at Tricia's face, there was no form of mockery on it. Wait—The young lady meant everything she said. She sat up again. “You mean it, Tricia,” she mouthed. “This is unbelievable.”“Ye

Luck

Olivia paced the enormous sitting room, numerous reflections in her head. How would she go about it?Amongst all of her thoughts, what transpired to be essential at the moment was getting the phone number the woman she works for, inquired of her to get. Oh, her days. Why did she think all of these would be comfortable to accomplish long before now? All she ever wanted was the money, and nothing more. How can she obtain all of that money, and not do something? Was it not foolish of her to imagine that was what her experience would be? And of all people, Mrs. Blackwell? She settled on one of the couches and heaved a sigh. She didn't know how she would do it but she had to do it, somehow. Just somehow! Where was Emily? She looked at the entrance of the woman's room and shook her head. As a matter of fact, Emily was not assisting her at this point, but can she blame her? The poor lady doesn't even know she is on the verge of getting betrayed. Or rather, has been betrayed alre

"I Would Love To Dance—"

A smile plastered on her countenance and she led the way to Mark who modified flowers on a table. The hall was ready to be used when she walked in. “Mark.” She dubbed, strolling to the veneer so he could have a good and better picture of her. “Good morning.”“I almost thought you wouldn't make it to the Enterprise this morning,” the man scoffed. “Come,” he handed the bowl of flowers to Emily who took it from him. “Assist me with setting up the tables.”“Is the reason for the party going to work as well?” Emily laughed and walked closer to the table. “Does the other staff know of this?”“Well, yes,” Mark nodded. “Mr. Stone called us all this morning and broke the news to them. You should see the look on their faces at that moment.”“I thought as much,” they moved to another table. “How are you today?”“I am good,” he replied with a nod. “You look stunning, as expected. You've got a friend I should marry?”“Oh, please!” The woman laughed and stared hard at the main stage. It was more

"Call me Alexander, Emily."

Their feet moved to the cadence of the instruments that played in the background. Eyes rested on them, but why should she care? It was one of her moments in the Enterprise and she would savour it for as long as it lasted. “Did I step on your pretty toes?” Alexander asked when she stopped to think for a moment. “Everything OK?”“Yes,” they continued their dance and she squeezed his hands even tighter. “I am fine.” She however guaranteed him and he gave a nod, savouring the moment just as she did. Other staff danced. Together and on their own. Soon enough, the moment came to a stop and all staff returned to their seats, while Alexander mounted the stage once more. “Thank you for gracing the event,” he spoke into the microphone. “The Enterprise will not do it without you and I say a big ‘thank you’ to all my staff and workers. Secretary and spokesman.”“As we can see,” he began after a round of applause. “Emily Hartley is officially an active member of the Enterprise. From what I ca

A Snitch, Always And Forever

“You sent for me, Mrs. Blackwell,” she tossed the file on the table, causing the older woman to look up and meet with her gaze. "This is the file you asked for."There was neither a smile nor grimace on Victoria's countenance, and one of her hands dug into her hair like she was in thought before the other woman came in. “Take a seat.” She finally spoke, after a while of not letting out a word. Without hesitation, Olivia snatched the chair next to her and modelled in it. “Do you need something?”“No,” Victoria shuddered her head. “Not really. I only have an assignment for you.”Her heart leaped. What was it about this time? Well, a part of her told her she could accomplish it no matter what it would be. Did she not get Mr. Stone's contact after the slight complication she seemed to have faced? “What is it about, Mrs. Blackwell?”“I have more files for you to deal with,” Mrs. Blackwell astonished the younger woman by disappointing her. “Although you and Katherine would have to sh

Torments, In Advance

“We are meeting with Tricia today,” Victoria announced that morning. “I expect you to be in my office by 12.”“Today?” The shocked lady asked. “Why?”Victoria, vexed by the remark, veered around. She glanced around her, shaking her head. “What do you mean by that, young lady?”“I—I am sorry, Mrs. Blackwell, but that is not what I meant to ask.”“What did you mean to ask?” The older woman asked while she modified the bag that hung on her shoulders, prepared to blast. “Does the nature of your job not have to do with meeting up, even when least expected?”“It does,” Olivia bobbed her head, prepared to walk away. “I will be at your office by 12, Victoria.”“Yikes!” She let out as she pushed the door of her office. It was beginning to be more difficult than she reckoned it to be. Her legs led her to her desk and she put up with the chair next to the table. Now she desired to be Emily for the whole week. For goodness sake, the woman would consume the whole of a week at home. Perhaps, it w

Torments, In Advance II

The ride back to the Corporation was a peaceful one, and Victoria wasn't inclined to chip in a word. At the same time, there was Olivia who wasn't ready to speak with the older woman. A lot went on in her mind, and it was at the same time difficult to figure out. After a while of driving, they dropped anchor at the gate and the man who offered his service as a gateman did a good job by opening up to them. Ready to hop down, she asked. “What do I tell them if asked a question?”“What do you mean, Olivia?” An aggravated Victoria raised a question. “I thought I told you before now that it is not my business whatever you tell them. I pay you for all of these things.”“Right,” Victoria grimaced, hoping down from the car. “I'll see you later.” She said as she picked up her handbag from the chair where it posed. “See you later, Olivia,” Victoria heaved a sigh. She had yet to hop down from the car and Olivia seemed to care less. Of all things to care about, not Victoria and her strategie

Soon. Very Soon

“Have you told him yet?” Olivia strolled into the medium-sized living room. “Has he talked about it, rather?”“Uh, no,” Emily shook her head. “I texted him that night, but got no reply.”“Oh, I see,” Olivia bobbed her head. “Why is he yet to talk about it?”“I wouldn't know,” the woman answered back. “There is time for everything. Now may not be the right time to go on dates.”“You are right,” Olivia nodded as she squeezed a spoonful of the nourishment in her mouth. “He'd come around, don't think about it.”“Who says I am troubled by that?” Emily sneered. “Mr. Stone has a preference for me. I like him, too. I am not bothered about anything. Nothing at all.”Olivia altered her position on the chair and began. “Would you date him if he asked you to?”A smile appeared on Emily's countenance and she switched her position on the couch, confronting Olivia. Her face contorted red and she glanced away, then back at Olivia. “Why do you ask, Liv?”“Why not?” Olivia questioned back. “You are my
