Delilah's POV:My heart broke but I expected this much, "How are you, mom?" She yelled on the other side, "Don't you fucking dare to call me that. We are so done with you. We were glad that you had run away. The burden was off of us." My throat clogged, "Don't worry, I am not coming back." Relief washed over her, "Thank God. Then why did you call?" Snapping my eyes close, I asked her, "How old was I when you adopted me?" She hissed in my ear, "Just why are you reminding me of that regretful moment of my life?" Tears prickled at the back of my eyes, "Just answer, please." She bit out, "Three." I swallowed hard, "From which orphanage?" "The Hope. What else?" I blinked back tears, "That's all. Thanks." She said in a really harsh tone, "Listen, Delilah, you are gone from our lives, okay? So, please, just stay gone. No need to call any of us ever again." The line went dead. And so did my heart.
