Chapter 81

Adelia's Point of View A knock on the door sounded just after I woke up. Rasped through the house like an alarm going off. "Adelia. Get the door," My mother screamed from what sounded like the kitchen. Or the living room. Only a few paces away from where she wanted me to be. "Get it yourself," I grumbled, rolling onto my stomach and burying my head into my pillow. Whoever it was wasn't for me. I was still very much a prisoner in this place. Not some guest who would get requests for company during the damned day. But, to my horror, my mother screamed again. "I'm in the bathroom. Get the door." Grinding my teeth together, I slipped out of my comfort and strutted towards the front door. Felt the itchy material of the pajamas that she had given me scratch against my skin relentlessly. When I finally reached the living room, there was my mother, sprawled out on the couch with not a care in the world. A fresh cup of coffee in her hands. Hair in a high bun. Eyes as cold as ice. I wa

Chapter 82

Michael's Point of View I've done missions like this hundreds of times before. Helped thousands of people escape and reunited them with their families. Walked into danger more times than it was necessary to count. Yet this time felt different. Almost like it would be the fight of my life. The last stance I would ever take. More important even than that time I had stopped a terrorist group from burning down a damned school... Which was ridiculous but didn't change the fact in the slightest. Standing in the middle of the Air BnB, I zipped up the last of my combat suit. Made of Kevlar and as tight as a second skin, this felt familiar as well. Seemed like I was inhaling for the first time in months. This was what I knew. This was what I lived for. Loved. No women to cloud my judgment. No booze to fog up my brain. Pure instinct and training. Most of my handguns were strapped to me. Four in total. Seven hunting knives as well. One rifle in a case beside me. All of them had at least

Chapter 83

Adelia’s Point of View Having a small army behind my back felt a whole lot better than just having Aiden around. I had to give it to him. He had swayed so many people to our side that when the time finally came to pull off our little plan I had nothing left to do but wait for the panic to set in. However, getting out over two dozen people seemed like a more difficult task than what we had previously bargained for. Then came the fact that we had to make arrangements for their families. All of them had to be relocated to either Lover’s Quarrel or Eiecrunt. The latter wasn’t much of an option unless- Standing in the morning light surrounded by two dozen armed guards, I finally got the courage to take the phone Aiden handed to me. A lump as solid as any rock formed in my throat, obscuring any air that might want to pass. Alvara was going to be livid. No matter how much she trusted me, relied on me, and kept me by her side, she was going to be angry beyond reproach. With good reason,

Chapter 84

Siya’s Point of ViewBeing stuck inside a cell whilst Adelia was fighting for our lives made my blood run cold. She had bargained with Phaedra to keep me alive. A stupid and reckless decision that could have both of our heads on pikes by the end of the week, knowing her tongue. Then she visited me twice in spite of the dangers and risks of it. With the second visit, she told me what she was planning on doing. How she wanted us both to get out with the help of her other mate, Michael.A human was going to help to get me out of here. A fucking human male.Somehow, that made me even angrier than being stuck in here. Made me angrier than when Killian beat me to a damned pulp. At least the last cunt didn’t come back to do it again. Although my wolf craved it. Craved ripping into him and not letting go.It took some calculating. Some estimating and guessing by the guards’ rotation and the sounds of the other inmates to determine when, exactly, her plan was going to fall into place. No one g

Chapter 85

Michael’s Point of ViewThe moment the door was off its hinges, Siya launched himself out of his cell. Faster than anything I had ever seen before. Faster than I could draw my gun and aim.All of the fury he felt was painted across his face with devastation as he barrelled down the corridor. His sight was set firmly on the man in the middle. The one with a glistening smirk. So, I did what every good partner would do and aimed at the men behind them. Clocked two before a third reached me in the flurry of flying fists and spit. His face was an inch off before I fired up, splattering his brains all over my face. His limp body stammered back a step before slumping down onto the damp tiles. And then the next one was there, quick as lightning and utterly unafraid.None of them sported Siya’s dark complexion. Looked to be solely from our opponents pack rather than this one. Which made the killing easy and assured. When I realized he was too close, teeth already snapped at my throat. I flicke

Chapter 86

Siya’s Point of View I knew my body was fucked the moment I emerged out of the cell. Knew that between the beating Killian had given me, shitty meal rotations and my too fast metabolism that I was going to run out of fuel sooner rather than later. A healer could fix it. Rewrite my cells in that weird way that they did and I would carry on. But even staring death in the face, Killian still refused to heal me. “Over my dead fucking corpse,” He hissed at Michael, spit flying everywhere as he spoke. Michael, to my utter surprise, rolled his fucking eyes like an irate child. Cocked up one hand on his hip, the one with the knife still in it. “Well that’s not very fucking nice of you. Mind losing your elbow joint in the process?” He mocked, smirking all the way. This made Killian blanche. The world titled sideways for a moment. Blood roared loudly in my ears. Screamed at me to sit down or lay down. Maybe both. Everything was on fire. Every muscle ached with the smallest of movements.

Chapter 87

Adelia’s Point of View The charges were set. All of the guards who had joined our side had prepared their families for evacuation. Everyone was in place, ready to blow this place wide open and then some. Aiden paced considerably as I stared at him. His thumbnail was nothing but a nub at this point. Had no nail to speak of. “What if we are caught? Tortured? I haven’t ever been-“ He swallowed hard, face turning into a mask of pain. “What if I tell them about Nessa? How I’m her mate? They’ll go looking for her just to spite me, I’m sure of it.” He bleated for the hundredth time tonight. The moon was rising steadily above the small walled-in garden. The very same one where I had started falling for Siya. Or rather, where I finally accepted that we were mates. It was only fitting that we waited it out here. With my mother firmly shoved into Phaedra’s ass since I left this morning with the guards, I didn’t have to worry about what she thought was going on. Too busy planning the death o

Chapter 88

Adelia’s Point of ViewThere was a brief second between inhaling and exhaling where I thought I might pass out. Vomit. Both. Not only was Michael drenched in blood but Siya had a limp. A significant limp. And I could smell his blood, clear as day, in the air. Before I could move, Aiden was already there. Lifted half of Siya’s body weight onto himself and off of Michael. The human looked elated at the shift of the weight. Nearly sagged against the wall beside him with relief.“Are you alright, captain? ‘Aiden asked beside my mate, studying his side profile, no doubt trying to figure out where the bleeding was coming from. When no distinguishable wounds were visible, Aiden looked back at me with wide eyes riddled with doubt.I only forced my face into neutrality. There was no need to show an already panicked male how much this scared me. Affected me. Siya’s extraction was supposed to come through easily and with minimal complications. But it looked like the two of them had endured a wa

Chapter 89

Michael’s Point of ViewFrom the look on Adelia’s face, I knew something was off the moment I finished explaining to her what had happened. Like she knew exactly what I was talking about but felt too conflicted to tell any of us.Siya, on the other hand, looked near death. Stumbled upright when Adelia told us we were leaving right away. Thanks to Aiden, the captain was caught beneath his shoulders and dragged upright. A cringe morphed his face, followed closely by shame. This was a man who was in charge for most of his life. Someone who didn’t rely on anyone else, from the looks of it. Now he was stuck with being babied by us. A hard knock to his ego. There wasn’t much time to consider what he was feeling or what Adelai was scheming, though. Aiden hurriedly plucked a walkie-talkie from his combat pants and hit the talk button. “We are go for exit. I repeat, we are go for exit. Light them up.” He spoke into the thing, his eyes staring off into space as he did so. He had lived here hi

Chapter 90

Adelia’s Point of View As we went, the halls started filling up more. People started moving in and out of rooms. Some screamed whilst others calmly escorted what looked to be elderly people out of the burning wing. Most of the elderly residents looked like the spouses of the general I had been presented to with Siya. Some had younger children with them as well. None of them looked our way. Not even at Siya. Luckily, no guards moved with them. Well, none of the guards that we hadn’t recruited. Here and there a familiar face would spot us. Steered the people they were with in a different direction. Kept all of their attention firmly on the tasks at hand. Once we were close enough to the burning wing, we headed left, down a dank corridor clearly not being used often. The air smelt of mould and stagnant water. The stones were covered in moss at the edges. An escape route seldom used anymore. Michael remained a pillar in front of me. Halted and waited at every corner and turn, scan
