Chapter 101 - Damien

Oh, I feel so terrible. We left the hospital and I went straight to my son, Blaine’s house. I stayed so much longer than intended as Blaine was asking me to help with things around the house, and I did not want to say no. Then we got chatting as we so often would, and time seemed to run away with us. Before I knew it, they were saying they were going to get sorted for bed, and I realized it was near midnight!  I pondered over what was best to do. I felt so guilty that I had left Violet locked up all alone in the cabin basement all afternoon, and now the night too. But it was probably going to draw attention to myself if I left the pack at this time of night. Plus, she may well have fallen asleep by now, as she had run all the way to our pack, only sleeping briefly in the forest in her wolf form, so she was probably shattered! So I decided it was better to leave her to sleep, and I would go over there in the morning armed with some breakfast and a chance to

Chapter 102 - Violet

We sat opposite one another in the lounge of the old cabin, eating the breakfast food in pretty much silence. I see my grandfather occasionally looking at me curiously. The fact, he said earlier I had reminded me of my Dad and also his wife, which would be my grandmother, had taken me by surprise, but it was the look on his face. It was a softness, a caring look. One of love and affection. Not the sort you would expect from a man described the way I had heard him spoken about. “Was the food okay for you dear?” Damien asked me. “Yes, thank you.” I nodded, actually having enjoyed the cooked breakfast food he had brought with him. “Good, I am sorry I did not come back last night. I got held up in my pack, and then it seemed too late and did not want to wake you if you had fallen asleep, because I realized it would have been a long day for you coming to find my pack.” He explained. As I sat and listened to him, I could not help but feel a little bad for being so critica

Chapter 103 - Damien

I sit, my body trembling as I recall the things that had happened. I hate reliving this. The mistakes I have made. The regrets I would live with for all eternity. But this girl needs to know these things. She deserves to hear my side too. So she can make an educated decision when it comes to it. I could see Violet sitting taking in my words intently, like she was listening to every word carefully. Nodding her head at me. When I look at her, I can't help but be reminded of my wife and my son. She certainly has a look of them both. Their hair color... their eyes... their skin tone...No, I need to focus. I need to continue this. I need to tell her what happened. She must know my side of the story. She has only heard the side from the rest of the family. The family that hates me. That blame me for my mother's death... “As it turned out, our first pup was a little boy.” I wiped away a tear that had slipped from my eye at the memory. “Our beautiful Jacob. But Jacob was poorly. He had

Chapter 104 - Tate

Being without my mate was torture. Today there was a meeting to discuss what should be done next. Lachlan and Uncle Pierce had wanted us all to calm down. Personally, I think Lachlan wanted time with his mate now she was home, which I understand. But they were not ready to call Damien, which annoyed the hell out of me. Considering when Hattie had been in his custody they were all guns blazing and ready to call, but the moment she is back home and safe, and it is my mate in his possession, it is not so important, and they will take their time and have a good old think about it. I was not impressed. Though Lachlan had tried to imply that Violet had gone of her own free will, and told Hattie that she wanted to go and that it was the end of things with the pack, to protect us, and he was considering if that could be the right thing to do because until this point he had not realized his uncle would harm somebody else in the family. So basically, how I saw that was, he was willing to

Chapter 105 - Lachlan

I am sitting curled up on the sofa with Hattie, loving the fact she is home. A coffee in my hand, as we both sat and watched Devin play with his toys on the floor. Suddenly, a loud banging at the door made Hattie jump out of her skin. I think this whole experience has affected her more than she is willing to admit, but she seems to want to pretend like all is fine, so we are going along with that. I am not going to keep checking if she is okay if she does not want to talk about it, or else she gets snappy.     I stood up, walking to the door. Opening it to find Tate and my Uncle stood looking at me. Both looked stern-faced and frustrated. Tate would hate me for saying it, but right now, he looked the mirror image of his Dad.   “Hey, nothing like turning up unannounced is there” I said jokingly.    “Didn’t think you would respond if we mindlinked.” Tate says.    &

Chapter 106 - Damien

I had just left my pack to take Violet her breakfast. I have to say I have enjoyed the time we have spent together. I know that is likely the last thing that should happen, when she is technically my prisoner. But she is my granddaughter. I can’t help but look at her that way. We have chatted about her father and her mother when they were in the pack, the things she did not know. I see a sadness in her eyes when she speaks of them, and it breaks my heart knowing she had to go through losing them when she was so young, and feeling so alone. She should have had family around her, but because of the thoughts her Dad had, he didn’t trust me. He did not trust me enough to bring up his child in the pack, in a safe home and environment surrounded by family, and people to care for her. Not to mention, had they not fled, they might still be alive… She is such a wonderful young woman, who seems so intelligent and caring. I have not asked much about her wolf nor the gifts as yet, but

Chapter 107 - Violet

I looked at my grandfather, sitting at the table with his head in his hands. “You didn’t plan to keep me and use my gifts?” I stuttered in shock. “No, of course not. I understand why you would think that. Of course, you would. Considering the things they have said to you, you are going to think the worst of me. Everybody does. And I have long since accepted that, as much as it hurts. But no, Violet, I brought you here because I desperately need your help to help my great-grandson.” He whispers. What he has said registers in my brain. And I feel a cold chill. Maybe we had all misjudged this man. The hurt in his voice was clear when he described the fact he had accepted people thinking the worst of him. I don't think he is the man they think he is... but then I focused on something else he said. “Your great-grandson?” I asked. He nods, looking upset as he looks to me before speaking. “My grandson and his mate had a little boy. Their second child. The first, a beautifu

Chapter 107 -Tate

The warriors are in place and beginning the first stage of their attack. Lachlan and I are en route to attempt to meet with Damien. Or I should say turn up at the cabin where they had Hattie locked up. The fact he had not answered our calls had meant there was no other option but to go in with men on the ground. He could have avoided all this if he had just handed Violet over. Yet he seemed so reluctant to do so. Such a fool. We do not want to start a war with a neighboring pack. Of course we don't, but we see no other option. They have my mate.    He will be regretting his actions now, with our warriors invading their pack. Our warriors are some of the best trained in the country. There was no denying that. Damien’s pack were nothing compared to ours. We had built ourselves up over the years, refined our troops, our skills, made ourselves stronger, and now I knew why. Discovering about the family history, it all made sense. They were preparing to protec

Chapter 109 - Violet

We drove toward the pack. I hung up the phone, probably what would be considered mid-conversation, and I know that would have frustrated both of them, but right now I did not care. They needed to listen to me. If they were desperate, they would hopefully do what I wanted them to. I hear my grandfather chuckle in the driver's seat next to me. I looked at him, my eyebrows raised. “You got them told, eh?” he smiles. “I did not expect you to give me my phone back, to be honest. So I thought the best thing to do would be to call them, to call Tate, he was the most likely to listen to me. Lachlan was there, they were coming to look for me, I think.” I told him. “I heard some of it, sweetheart. He sounds worried about you, your mate. Don’t push him away. He will be terrified for you right now. He doesn’t know things are okay and that you are safe with me, he only knows the things the family tell him.” he says with a sad smile. “He could be picturing all sorts. Likely imagini

Chapter 110 - Tate

“Call her back!” Lachlan’s voice boomed at me. “Fine, but I am telling you she won’t pick up. She hung up on us Lach. You think she wants to deal with us right now? She told us what she wanted. We know what we have to do!” I yelled back. This was not unusual for Lachlan and I, when we were both wound up, it had been the same since we were youngsters. Close friends, but with the ability to clash and trigger one another to the point of an argument. But we worked well together as a team when it came to it... Lachlan sits there as he drives, his face a mixture of anger and a little surprise. A look I have seen many times before, probably at the fact I full on yelled at him, but I swear right now I want to smack him upside his head. Why will he not listen to what I have to say? Why not just do as she asks, and then we have a better chance at getting her home. But no, Lachlan is a stubborn bastard and thinks he knows best. It is okay for him, he has his mate home… I heard
