CHAPTER 60 - Outburst

“I MET him again, and I couldn't stop thinking about the things we did. It lives rent-free in my mind. I feel something inside me twisting, whenever I think of him doing the same thing to others." Latton heaves deeply, furrowed her brows then continued sharing her sentiments, "Yesterday, we rode in a car together, and I stopped myself from looking at him.” She explains while lying on the sofa staring blankly at the white ceiling. “Why? Why did you stop yourself from looking at him? Do you hate him for leaving?” Laura asks while writing on her notes. Latton lowered her head and clasped her hands, “I don’t hate him, what happened before is inevitable. We’ll end it sooner or later. I think I never thought that I'd meet him again, especially not in this type of situation.” “Situation? Like what?” Laura asked with curiosity in her tone. “We work in the same building. Our families know each other and it’s just awkward. What if I lose control, and just lunge at him out of nowhere?” “Are

CHAPTER 61 - Something like that

AFTER the incident, Latton left Caldwell Incorporated. She was in a bad mood, and she didn't want her work to be affected. She got in a taxi and was about to return home when she received a text message from Vivian saying the bag was now ready for pickup. She immediately changed her destination to Vivian’s shop. Around 11:30 AM, she arrived at Bloom’s Luxury Burlap Shop. When she got there, Vivian was in the receiving area in front of the computer. She walks towards her and says, "Miss Bloom, I’m here for the bag." Upon seeing her, Vivian smiles and responds gleefully, "Hi! Let me get the bag for you. Please have a seat while waiting for me." She sat on the couch in the waiting area, glancing at the bags that were on display. Shortly after, Sandra, Vivian’s assistant, gave her a cup of hot chocolate and a small basket of cookies. She smiles upon seeing the cute presentation of the snacks and nods to the assistance and says, "Thank you!" She took a bite of one of the chocolate chip

CHAPTER 62 - Phone Calls

THE incident yesterday spread throughout the office like wildfire. It reached George’s ears, and it concerned him so much that the issue might affect the R. I and C. I collaboration. Though no one actually knew what happened between Latton and Victor yesterday, the way Latton left the office, it painted a picture for them. 10 minutes after Victor got out of her office she went out with her belongings, her eyes were reddened, her face full of dismay and the way she walked out conveyed exasperation. George called Lucian to his office to personally investigate what happened and check if Latton was okay, which Lucian immediately obeyed, and worriedly went down to the 15th floor to go to her office. While on the elevator, he couldn't stop adjusting his tie and fixing the sleeves and cufflinks of his suit. He wanted to look at his best in front of her. To his surprise, she was not there. Carter, one of the R. I employees then says, "Miss Ripley sent an email that she'd be working from hom

CHAPTER 63 - Back to Office

RING! RING! RING! Latton reluctantly took her phone from the bedside table to answer the call, but before she could, the call ended. Irritated that her sleep was disrupted, she angrily checked the call log to know who it was and to give that person a piece of her mind. To her surprise, it was her father. She sighed deeply, held the bridge of her nose before giving her father a callback. "Hello, Daddy? Why are you calling me at this hour?" She asks as she glances at the wall clock that shows the time is 3:21 AM. Without any delay, he said in a commanding tone, "I need you to do something for me..." Her brow furrowed while listening to her father. She didn't have plans on going back to the office, but due to her father's demands, she decided to go and face whatever despicable thing Victor had prepared for her. To her surprise, he was not there. She did not see any sign of him, not even his trusted secretary, Madison. This made her smile and she continued with her day. Though the

CHAPTER 64 - The Accusation

LUCIAN can’t fathom the scene he is seeing and can only stare at them from the ajar door, unsure if he would knock, enter or simply move away and forget this day ever happened, but before he could think of the best way to deal with it a voice from behind him spoke, and it caught Latton and George’s attention. "Sir, do you need anything from Mr. Caldwell?" A friendly voice asks, when he turns around he sees a young man around twenty-five years old, wearing a white buttoned shirt with a blue-colored loose tie. He is wearing thick black framed glasses, giving him a nerdy vibe. He is his father’s new assistant as the previous one chose to retire early due to poor health conditions, as he remembers his name is Owen. "Sir?" Owen muttered with a confused look on his face. Before Lucian could respond, George opened the door and said, "Why are you standing there? Come inside if you need anything." He gestured to his son to enter the room as he glanced at Owen to continue his work. The latter

CHAPTER 65 - Into her nerves

LUCIUS entered the room. Both were dumbstruck at his arrival as they almost got caught in the act. Her face paled, and she felt someone pour ice-cold water on her while Lucian gazed the other way, to hide his reddened cheek. "Next time knock." She mumbles as she hides her trembling hands and uneasiness. Oblivious to everything that happened moments ago. Lucius simply went on with his purpose of going into her office. "Are you two in a meeting?" He asked while glancing at both of them. She nonchalantly nods, as she doesn’t want to explain anything to Lucius. She knew how he loved hearing stories of her private life. "Well, that explains it. I’ve been calling you more than 6 times. You did not answer. I have been in the parking lot for more than 15 minutes waiting for you." "I’m sorry Luci." She says and lowers her head. Lucian felt that he no longer belonged to the room. He witnessed how she lied to Lucius to protect his feelings, and it suffocated him. "If only Lucius knew what

LATTON’s phone is continuously ringing. She checks the time on the wall clock. It’s 5 AM. She buried her head in her pillow, but it did not muffle the sound of her phone, she was cursing herself for not putting it in silent mode before sleeping. At first, she doesn’t want to answer it, but the ring irritates her, and what annoys her more is when she remembers she left her phone on the table near her vanity mirror which is far from her bed. She didn’t want to get up, she had two more hours left to sleep and was hexing the person who kept on calling her at this time on a Monday, but after what seemed like minutes of failed attempts to ignore her ringing phone, she stood up and grabbed it. She was about to drop the call but when she saw the caller ID, she instantly snapped back to her senses and answered her phone. "Say something good to me." She says to the person on the other side. LATTON's plane landed at 10:20 AM. She had jet lag, and she was starving, but she couldn’t stop from moving as it might delay her from attending the meeting at C.I. She kept checking her watch and was concerned that she might not make it on time. She turns on her phone, but unfortunately, the battery is drained. With only a backpack in hand, she went to the taxi bay. There was a line, but she didn’t care, and she immediately hopped in the first taxi she saw. At first the driver scolded her and told her to wait in line, but she waved him a load of cash, around $500, 10x more than her fare. The driver's eyes widened, took the money and sped away to her destination. During the ride, she asked for a charger and charged her phone. He extended his hand and said, “Well played.” She shook his hand and responded in a provoking tone, “I’ll be waiting for your next move, Mr. York.” He sneered, “Next time I will get you, and I will be rejoicing with a bottle of wine in my hand.” Her face lit up then she says, “Speaking of wine, you should have brought some. I heard you have a little vineyard in Temecula Valley.” “Yeah, I do have a vineyard. I purchased it a few months ago. How did you know…” He furrows his brows but brushes it off, “I’ll bring some next time.” He then turns his back on her to leave. Feeling wrung out, she sat on the chair and stared at his receding figure, but before he got out of the room, she said in a sarcastic tone, “I’m looking forward to that.” S
