Chapter 120: The Misguided Truth

Camden managed to get 2 slices of pizza down before calling it a night, handing her box back to Clayton. She snuggled back into the cozy couch, hoping to fall asleep because that seemed to help with the nausea. It didn't take long before her wish came true and sleep enveloped her once more.Later, she woke up in Clayton's arms as he carried her to her bed. She clung to him, feeling tired and miserable. "Ssshhh... I'm just taking you to bed," he whispered, realising she was starting to stir. He set her down gently, but she continued to cling to him, not wanting to let him go. "You want me to stay with you?" he asked with a chuckle. She considered this for a moment, but ultimately decided against it. She thought that would just be salt in poor Matt's wounds. Besides, she didn't want Clayton under the impression that all was forgiven when they still had a long way to go. Reluctantly, she released her grip on him. He stood and pulled the covers up over her before bending down to give her

Chapter 121: The Accusation

Camden suddenly looked furious. "You don't know what you're talking about!" she yelled with tears streaming down her cheeks, leaping out of Clayton's lap and stalking out of the room. "Cam!" both men shouted after her. She headed straight to the front door, wanting to get out and away from them, to put some distance between herself and the slanderous accusation. She turned the doorknob, but the door wouldn't open. She started pounding on it, determined to get out. "Cam! You need to chill!" Clayton shouted, rushing towards her to try and get a hold of the situation. "Let me out!" she bashed at the door relentlessly. "Cam, come on..." he urged, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her, pinning hers to her sides so she couldn't beat the door anymore. Matt looked on guiltily, feeling responsible for her outburst. "Sshhh..." Clayton whispered as he held her tight. "Deep breaths," he murmured gently. "I didn't kill Jamie!" she cried through desperate sobs. "Okay... It's okay,"

Chapter 122: The Sketches

Clayton tried to give her the space she seemed to want. He didn't pull her into his arms and try to shield her from the pain of her memories, even though he desperately wanted to. His real goal was just to be there for her, so that she knew that she wasn't alone. So instead, he resigned himself to the occasional supportive touch, just to remind her that he was nearby if she needed him. It didn't take long before her ragged breathing and hopeless sobs had calmed, replaced by the sound of slow, steady breaths of sleep.Clayton was consumed by his own thoughts though. Why had Camden asked him if he had ever killed a man? Was she implying that she had? Was she looking for common ground? He was more desperate now than ever to know what had happened to her. If she had killed someone, what were the circumstances? Was it self-defense? Was it murder? Had she been assaulted? His mind swirled with possibilities that did nothing but torment him and keep him awake as he ran through all the potenti

Chapter 123: The Taste

She lay there quietly, unable to get back to sleep, her mind swirling with thoughts as she listened to Clayton's rhythmic breathing. She wondered if she should tell him about Jamie. Then she wondered whether she should tell him she had been through his sketchbook. Now that she'd done it, it felt like a huge violation of his privacy. Like she'd read his diary or something. She felt guilty, but figured she needed to be honest and tell him. She was already keeping enough secrets and the guilt was already intolerable. Her mind kept rolling back to the images, specifically the one of her pregnant. She remembered the way he'd captured her smile. Was that how she really looked when she smiled? When was the last time she felt as happy as she looked in that picture? She figured it had probably been a while. As she was lost in thought, she felt Clayton beginning to stir. Unaware that she was already wide awake, he smiled and gently pulled her closer to him, trying not to wake her as he relished

Chapter 124: The Wake Up Call

Camden came to, confused and disoriented. When she opened her eyes, Clayton was staring at her, his eyes brimming with concern. "Thank fuck!" he swore, relief evident in his voice. "Matt, she's waking up!" he called out to the other room. Camden felt disoriented and struggled to recall what had just happened. "Are you alright? What happened?" Clayton bombarded her with questions. "I'm... I'm okay," she whispered, still trying to make sense of what had just happened. The dream about the white wolf lingered in her mind, but she couldn't quite grasp its significance at the moment. Just then Matt came into her room, his features also etched with concern. "Finally! We nearly called an ambulance, Cam! Are you okay?" he blurted, panic still lingering in his voice.'Don't stop,' Clayton's words reverberated in her head. Jamie's words. Her world threatened to crumble once again as her breath got caught in her throat and her stomach lurched. She scrambled to sit up, breathing hard and heavy as

Chapter 125: The Joker

Camden emerged from the shower, feeling refreshed and energized. She quickly got dressed in comfortable jeans and a soft hoodie, the warmest clothes she had with her. As she entered the sitting room, she found Clayton peacefully asleep on one of the couches, and Matt sitting on another, engrossed in a TV show and munching on chips. It seemed like they had settled in quite well here. "What are you watching?" Camden asked, curious about the show on the screen. "You should watch, I think you'd like it," Matt said, shifting up and making space for her to join him. She sat down next to him, immediately drawn into the captivating storyline. The episode reached a thrilling cliffhanger, leaving Camden shouting at the TV in frustration. "How can it end like that?! How can you kill off the main character already?!" Her passionate outburst amused Matt, who chuckled at her reaction."Want to watch another episode?" Matt suggested with a playful smile. "Definitely! You can't leave me on a cliffhan

Chapter 126: The Confession on the Stairs

Camden sat on the steps, wrapped in her thoughts and emotions, not realizing how long she had been outside. A fine drizzle started to fall and Camden groaned, resting her head on her knees. "All okay here?" she heard Clayton's tired and raspy voice from behind her. She nearly jumped out of her skin and wondered how he had managed to open the door without her hearing. Was she really that lost in thought? "Yeah, I'm fine," she answered as she turned back to face him, flustered by his sudden appearance. "You aren't thinking of running off somewhere, right?" he asked her warily. "No?" Camden responded, puzzled by the question. "Where would I go?" She wondered why he'd think she wanted to leave, though a part of her understood his concern given her history. "Beats me, Cam. I just don't want you running off into danger. We don't know this place," Clayton replied with concern. He was standing in the doorway with a blanket clutched around his shoulders. "Shit, it's cold!" he grumbled to himse

Chapter 127: The Crisis of Faith

Camden sighed deeply, her breath leaving a misty trail in the cold air. "I want forever too," she whispered, feeling the weight of her emotions and uncertainties. "But before I can even think of forever, I need to get through this Unbonding Ritual," she added, her voice filled with resignation. "Please don't pressure me now, Clayton. I can't give you answers or make commitments while I can't even get my thoughts straight. My mind is a mess," she frowned, feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of her feelings. "I'm with you now, and I want you, but if I'm alone with Matt for 5 minutes, then I want him. I hate this. I always thought the mate bond was such a special thing when I was a kid. I couldn't wait to find my mate, to know that there was someone out there perfect for you and you were destined to be together forever. It sounded like a fairytale to a young, naive little girl. But now I just wish I had my own free will to choose how I want to feel, rather than being compelled by some

Chapter 128: The Olive Branch

Clayton closed the door, a shiver still lingering from the cold outside. Matt looked at him with concern. "She doing okay?" he asked, his voice laced with genuine worry. "She's struggling," Clayton replied with a heavy sigh. "I'm counting the days for this to all be over," Matt admitted somberly, his heart weighed down by the turmoil surrounding them. Clayton nodded in understanding. "I think we all are," he said, acknowledging that they were all trapped in this complicated web of entangled relationships. "This has been a nightmare for all of us," Clayton added, the weariness evident in his voice. He wanted nothing more than to see Camden with that old carefree smile she used to wear. He felt like it was a distant memory now. A myth from a time before. As they stood in the living room, a silence settled between them, heavy with unspoken feelings. Finally, Clayton broke the silence, making an attempt at a truce, which he knew would make Camden happy. "Are you okay?" he asked Matt, thou

Chapter 129: The Pet Store

Camden emerged from her room wearing a dry hoodie and socks. She only had the one pair of jeans with her though, so she was still wearing those in spite of them being a bit damp from the rain. She felt wholly unprepared for the cold and wet Scottish weather. "You guys ready?" she asked, eager to get going, her mind focused on the promise of warmer clothes. "Yup," Matt replied, standing up and stretching. "Ready," Clayton answered, pulling his jacket on. "So where are we going?" Camden asked, curious about their where they were headed. "The Fox and Ferryman," Clayton said, opening the door and gesturing for her to step through. As she stepped out, Clayton pulled her hood up over her head to shield her from the persistent drizzle. "The Fox and Ferryman?" she repeated, intrigued by the name. She liked foxes, so the name caught her interest. "Yeah. It's not far from here. Only a 10 minute walk or so. There should be a clothing store somewhere in the vicinity, so we'll make a stop as soon
