Chapter 37.2

But my prayer was not answered the next morning. As soon as I left my room, I saw Caesar in the living room, having coffee and chatting with Papa. They both turned to face me with smiles on their lips, though Caesar's was bigger."Good morning, dear." Papa greeted me.I returned Papa's smile and approached him, kissing his cheek and greeting him, "Good morning, Papa.""Good morning, Brae."I raised my brows in response to Caesar's greeting. "What brings you here so early? It's only seven o'clock in the morning." I questioned him without bothering to return his greeting."I have something important to tell your parents." He replied, still smiling. My brow furrowed even more. "How important is it that you tell my parents that you can't wait any longer and have come this early? It's also Monday. Don't you have to go to work?""I'm on a month's vacation and don't have to go to work. As for why I'm here this early, well, I'm too excited (and nervous) to wait any longer and just had to tell

Chapter 38

My ass felt like it was on fire as I sat restlessly while my parents stared at me.Caesar just left, and now my folks are starting to interrogate me with so many questions."Why didn't you let us know last night that Caesar has confessed to you and is already courting you?" Mama's first question to me. "Brae, I know you're old enough, but I wish you'd give your father and me some consideration. You and Caesar surprised us! If you had told us last night, we would have been more prepared, unlike a while ago when I didn't know whether to be startled, upset with you, or delighted that someone had finally come to this house to tell us that they wanted to pursue you."Papa agreed with Mama and nodded. "What's more shocking than the fact that someone finally told us that he wanted to pursue you is the fact that that someone is Caesar. We wouldn't have had such a strong reaction if it had just been another man pursuing you, but it wasn't. It's Caesar, your childhood and closest buddy whom we

Chapter 39.1

"Where will you take me?" I asked Caesar as I looked at the scenery we were passing by through the car window."Secret," he said while smiling.I rolled my eyes. "Secret, my ass. Just tell me where you'll take me." I looked at him this time. "Don't tell me you'll take me to a five-star hotel or restaurant. Because that is so cliche.""Don't worry. I won't take you to either of those." He spoke, the smile on his face remaining.I couldn't help but raise my brows upon hearing his answer. "Really?"Caesar hummed while nodding as an answer. My brows raised even more. Well, that's surprising.I thought he was that kind of guy who loves pleasing women by taking them to extravagant places.I shrugged and said, "Whatever."Caesar did not respond to that, though his smile got bigger, looking so excited.I just shook my head and went back to looking at the scenery outside of the car window. The drive towards wherever he wanted to take me became quiet, but it wasn't awkward like when we went to

Chapter 39.2

"Eat slowly, Brae. You won't run out of food," Caesar said while staring at me with an amazed expression on his face.I swallowed what I was eating first before answering, "I told you I am starving.""Yes, I know you are very hungry, but still, eat slowly. What if you get choked with all the food you are pouring inside your mouth?""I would really choke if you wouldn't shut the hell up and let me enjoy my food peacefully."A sigh came out of Caesar's mouth as he shook his head, a sign of defeat. He has finally given up on lecturing me.Caesar really did become silent, but his eyes never left me, looking at every single thing I did, which annoyed me a little."Is it fun staring at me as I eat?" I asked just after swallowing a chunk of street food, not even looking at him."It is," he answered quickly.I looked at him this time. "What's fun in staring at someone who is eating?""It's only fun because it's you I am staring at. Besides, you seemed to be enjoying all the food we ordered, m

"Hah!" I exclaimed, satisfied, as the cold beer slipped down my throat. "This is so freaking refreshing!""Be honest with me, Brae. Have you been food and liquor-deprived for the past couple of months? Because why do you always eat and drink as if you've been so hungry and so thirsty for alcohol for years?" Caesar questioned with a chuckle."Try being a writer, and you'll know the answer to your question," I replied, my gaze fixed on the big sea in front of us and the cold wind blowing on my face. "I could even count on my fingers the nights where I had a decent sleep and a decent meal since I started writing that newly released novel of mine.""They did not give you a break?" Caesar inquired, his voice full of surprise."My break would be up to me, but I have a deadline to follow. And if I keep taking breaks, there is no way I will reach the deadline to submit my novels. So, I always choose to finish my novels first, then take a long break. But it's been a year since I have taken a l

Chapter 40.2

“Are you being serious right now?” I exclaimed as Caesar pulled me towards the center of the crowd.“Yep.” He replied when he finally put a stop to pulling me, though his grip on my hand remained, not wanting me to run away, while turning his head from left and right to look at the joyous crowd around us. “Look at how everyone’s having fun by dancing and singing along.” He turned to me, a wide and happy smile spread across his face. “This is the kind of fun I want us to have.”“Since when did dancing become fun for you?” I asked with an annoyed look. “As far as I remember, you have two left feet.”“Another change.” He said while grinning from ear to ear. “Come on, stop being mad and dance!”“No.” I then tried to get out of the dancing crowd, but Caesar’s grip on my hand did not let me. I gave him a sharp stare. “Let go.”“Nope. Not letting you go. You are not going anywhere but here, dancing with me.” Caesar said while still grinning.I gritted my teeth in annoyance. “Caesar–”“No.” H

Chapter 41

What seemed warm and bright and was striking on my face awoke me from my deep slumber.I groaned in annoyance as I tried to move around or cover my closed eyes with my hands, but for some unknown reason, my body felt heavy, so moving even for a tiny bit irritated me. And it's not only my body that is feeling heavy; so are my eyes.My eyes remained closed as my forehead knotted, and I couldn't help but groan once more.I really don't want to wake up yet, not only because of what’s going on with my body but also because I am still sleepy, and for an unknown reason again, I feel really tired even though I just woke up.But that warm and bright feeling on my face just wouldn't go away, so even if I wanted to go back to dreamland, that bright feeling wouldn't let me, forcing me to be fully awake. With a still-creased forehead, I groggily opened my eyes with my heavy hands still on top of them to serve as a shield for my eyes from something bright. My vision was blurred for a few seconds, a

Chapter 42

"Did we use protection?" That was the first question that came out of my mouth after a long silence that enveloped me and Caesar.Caesar, who was staring at me and was about to say something after grabbing my hand and calling out my name, was dumbfounded after I dropped that question. His eyes widened, and his mouth was hanging. He has a look of disbelief on his face.“What?” He asked after a few moments of being speechless.“I'm asking you if we used protection last night.” I repeated my question.Honestly, I don't know why, out of everything I could say, I ended up dropping that question. I could have asked him to let go of my hand or that we should forget whatever happened between us, but instead, I ended up asking him whether we used protection or not. But on the other hand, I guess that was still a good question.I can't take the risk of an unwanted pregnancy.I looked at the bed and on the floor, and I immediately sighed in relief when I saw a couple of used condoms on the floor

Chapter 43

"Brae...""I need to go to the restroom," I instantly said, not giving Caesar the chance to speak to me.It's been three days since that one-night mistake happened, and it has also been three days that I have been doing everything I can to avoid Caesar. If only it were possible, I would never want to see him again. If only I could end my vacation and just go back to work, but I can't. I have to be present at Raine and Tyler's wedding. So even though I don't want to see Caesar, I have no choice but to be around him every time Raine, Tyler, and our parents are around, acting as if nothing wrong had happened between the two of us since they knew nothing and I have no plans of telling them. But every time the two of us are left alone and he tries to strike up a conversation with me, I make any excuse not to talk to him.I don't even know what else he wants us to talk about when I already made it clear to him that I just want to forget what happened to us.

Chapter 44

Caesar’s POV“You are one hell of a persistent bastard, aren’t you?” Tyler said as he stood beside me.I was leaning against the wall of the room that Brae and Raine were currently in. I was waiting for the room's door to open for Brae to get out so I could have the long-awaited conversation with her. This time, I won’t let her run away and avoid me anymore.“Are you aware that these past few days, you have been acting like a dog who keeps on waiting for his master to notice him? Look, you’re doing it again right now. Seriously, man. Aren’t you getting tired?”“Shut the fuck up, Tyler, and scram,” I told the annoying person beside me.
