Chapter 51

Liam thought he could handle it all. He believed in himself that his resilience, his will power and his thinking, would save him from the mess he was in. Not only the mess, but the accompanying distress. On one side was his company and the money scandal. Fredrick had fallen on his knees in Liam's office, pleading with tears that he be forgiven. "You are unforgivable, Oris," Liam answered him. "A staff member who is willing to put others to shame, talk more of his own boss' wife, I must say that that staff could be a killer if given the opportunity." He wheeled around his chair, backing the pleading accountant, "Mr Oris, I would be harboring a potential killer if I keep you here. Leave my office before I decide to call the police." After Oris had scrambled out of his office, Liam held a staff meeting, where he warned everyone of them against accepting advice or instructions from an outside body except him.

Chapter 52

Elena's fingers trembled as she typed frantically, so that she missed some letters. Cold sweat broke out on her forehead, under her arms and breasts. The AC in the room didn't help matters. She moved from her makeup chair to the bed, and from there to the bare rug, and to the doorway. Lola had suddenly become slow in replying to the texts. "What the hell was she doing?" Elena wondered. When Lola had first chatted her up, Elena didn't give much of a thought to what she was saying. She considered she was one of those clout chasers who wanted to have a conversation with the billionaire's wife. But Lola's approach had been damn so straightforward! And then followed by the pictures. A screenshot of a video. Liam's video.  The first emotion that boiled through Elena was a larva of jealousy and anger. Then came shame, then embarrassment, then the raw pain searing through her heart. She waited as Lola t

Chapter 53

When Liam finally came home, it was at almost midnight. He had a prominent smell of Brandy on him and mumbled a response when Elena greeted him. He went straight to his room and shut the door. Almost at Elena's face. "I shall see you by morning," was the only explanation he gave.Elena stood outside the door, looking without understanding the patterns created by the mahogany wooden door. Her hand hovered above the door knob. It might be open if she tried it, but she didn't want to encroach into his privacy. But it just didn't feel right to let him be. She really wanted to get an explanation. Her head was filled with imaginative scenarios and ideas, and she wanted him to confirm or disburse them.Did Lola really die? If she did, how was she shot? And, more importantly, who did it? "Leave my door, Elena," Liam said from inside, startling her. "You sure you don't wanna talk?" she said."I want to talk," he said, and after a pause added: "To myself. Go to bed. We'll go to the office to

Chapter 54

Liam didn't usually look into his phone when he woke up, but today he did. The first news that popped on his Instagram timeline was the news of Lola's death. He stopped on his way to the bathroom to skim through the story.Lola was found that same day by her neighbor. Her window was shattered, and the blood was splattered at the opposite side, so it was a shot from outside the window. The only structure opposite the apartment was a calm restaurant, where old folks went to have their quiet tea. No one had a clue yet, Liam learned. Or was the police keeping information from the bloggers?Liam knew he had the very answer these people sought. Just place a call, and Charlie would be arrested a second time. Because that guy had a killing instinct. Just like a hyena. And if hyenas did not see a prey outside, they'd turn to their own pack. If Charlie was able to easily gun down a girl who had once been his friend's lover, whom he had even met personally, then he was capable of killing the fr

Chapter 55

"We're in public, girl," he said, struggling to get his breath together. Elena just fixed upon him those doe eyes of hers, lined with a dark mascara, giving her the look of a witch. Her mouth was wrapped around the head of his flaccid cock, and she sucked on it quietly, like a lollipop. It began to grow in her mouth. "Oh, fuck," Liam whispered, throwing his head back. Then turned to look at her. Elena kept her eyes locked on his. She wanted to penetrate deep into his soul, and to milk off the stress, trauma and anxiety loaded there. She decided not to use her hands on the growing shaft just yet. "But — but we have a problem at hand," Liam mumbled, straining himself not to moan out loud from the raw pleasure coursing through his body now. "There is no peace without trouble," Elena said. His enlarged member in her mouth didn't let the words come out prop

Chapter 56

That night, Elena received a surprise call from Jennifer. Her stepsister wasn't one for calls. If she did, it would be important."I might be wrong," she said the second Elena answered, "but I think I'm seeing a shady news online which mentions Liam's name."Elena didn't know what to say to this. Should she agree outrightly and risk the bombardment of questions that'd follow? Or she could feign oblivious, and pass on."It is what it is," Elena said, at a loss for suitable words. "Is it true?" Jennifer's voice was hushed. "Did your husband do it?""No," Elena said. "Liam is not and cannot be a killer, no matter how hot tempered he is, and no matter what's at stake," she added."Then he should make a public statement in reaction to this. He should clear the air, and his name. The versions to this story are maddening. Bloggers are going crazy with the twists and turns."Elena pulled at a string on her night gown. "Liam is not afraid," she said. "Not at all."After a long pause, Jennifer

Chapter 57

It was one thing to be wealthy, and another to be modest about it. Actually, the second one was more difficult to attain. These were Liam's thoughts as his car crawled through the gigantic gates of Mr Packwood's Palace. The first thing which caught Liam's attention was the great number of servants and guards. There were over a hundred maidservants just standing by the grand front door and along the endless balcony. Then there were the bodyguards, regaled in full armor, as though they were ready for war at any time. The eyes were lost behind jet-black shades, and their faces never accommodated a smile. Their index fingers were poised in front of the trigger."Men, you must not allow any trouble with these guards," Liam spoke into the intercom hidden under his suit."Roger that," Chris replied. He was the chief guard, and his tone was amused.Elena sat beside Liam, her hands on her laps as they drove slowly across the hundred meter yard. He let his eyes fall on the towering mansion th

Chapter 58

"Is anything the matter?" Mr Packwood, a seemingly keen man, had noticed the stare-down between Liam and the guard. The guard was trying to give off the oval box and head out already, but Mr Packwood didn't extend his hand for it. Instead he leaned back to watch the unfolding tense moment. "What are you doing here?" Liam snarled at the guard. The latter did not answer.  "You two have met before?" the old man asked, but his face wasn't interested enough, because he didn't know what was really at stake. Liam turned to Packwood. "Do you know who this man is?" Packwood shrugged with his brows. "My guard, of course. What's the meaning of that question?" Liam chuckled with the side of his mouth. Elena watched as the guard tried to hide his face. The air was thick with tension. Even Liam's guards from their distance seemed to have recognize

Chapter 59

Liam had hardly finished his last word when Charlie gave him a head butt that shattered his nose, and sent him reeling backwards. He didn't know how much distance he had covered until his back touched the cold railings of the yacht.  He held onto the steel bars and tried to steady himself. His head swirled as a throbbing pain began to emerge from within it. All of this happened within a few seconds. When Liam raised his eyes to look at Charlie, what he saw was a pistol nozzle pointed at him. Liam's reflexes failed him. And he only shut his eyes and imagined his own death. Then came the shot. Splitting the air in its loudness and suddenness. He waited. But for a long time, he did not feel any pain aside from the ones he felt on his nose and head.  As though from a distance, he began to hear the sounds of rushing feet against wood, the terrified shout

Chapter 60

"I donated two million to Lola's grandfather for the funeral and stuff," Liam said. He was sitting on Elena's bed, watching her perform a manicure on his toes; she didn't allow the maidservants to do it. "That's a lot of money, if you ask me," she said. "He took it without question?"  "He of course said I didn't have to do all of that, but he did take it." "And the other issues?" "He was willing to bury all of it in the rocks. But the police would be the hardest to fend off. Charlie isn't free at all." A reflective pause. "Neither am I." Then he shrugged. "They'll sort their stuff out themselves; that shit got me almost killed." After a while: "It must have been hard on you," Elena said, her tone resonating with compassion. "You would've preferred she didn't die." Liam's shrug and affirmation weren't strong enough. Elena knew why. A man's reputation was
