“I agree. It will happen. What else?” “For the moment, I feel he will be most comfortable in Cody’s tight fit pajamas. I know it seems odd but the medication I am using to make him more comfortable works best with body hugging clothes but he will need his own. Cody is six months older and six inches taller. The summer pj’s will work but the rest of his clothes won’t.” “I’ll be stopping over at the Nova’s house tomorrow evening. I’ll be getting his belongings while I’m there.” Cass and I stop as we see his mouth move but can’t hear what he says. “What do you mean you don’t have anything?” Sheila’s voice is as shocked as I feel. Cassius motions for Sheila to come over. “Hey little guy. I know you’re still afraid but I need you to talk to me again.” He brushes Clayton’s hair to the side. “Do you have any clothes, shoes, stuffies, anything?” “No sir.” “What have you been wearing?” “What they give me doesn’t fit except the shoes. Everything else is very tight and short. I don’t

“Aaron showed this to me when he asked if you had done a sensory test on him last night. I told him that you didn’t as we weren’t aware that it was even there.”“Did Aaron do a sensory test on his back?” I ask concerned that’s why he’s so fearful. “He wanted to but I didn’t allow him to.” “He actually listened when you told him no?” There’s a chuckle behind the seriousness of my voice. “No. I had to physically reinforce what I knew was proper. I knew he couldn’t handle the sensory test Aaron wanted to do.” “There’s two different ones.” “I know. Aaron wanted to go vertical, straight line from shoulder to rump but I knew that wouldn’t go well. It’s critical that you trust me, Deven.” There’s something about what he says that makes me stop my movements and look him in the eyes. “Colton, I realize that the sensory test Dr. Hamilton wanted to do would have been painful, which is why I stopped him. You can trust Deven to do the same with me but my plan is different. I am doing a sens

“It is the reason I ran from the hospital. While I had heard the crying, begging and screaming the day before, the night I ran, I woke up screaming. I was completely alone and I had forgotten that I asked Andre not to stay with me. It felt like his presence made my fear worse. I didn’t know how much I needed him there. I grabbed the bag sitting at the end of the bed and put the clothes inside it on. Then I tried the shoes that were sitting on top, they fit too. Just like the doctor and my so-called brother, the bag felt familiar. Not just familiar though. It felt very important. I poked around the room, grabbed the unopened bottled drinks I could find and left. I got lost looking for the elevator. I ran into a nurse in the hall. She was nice and wanted to get me back to my room but I had already removed my bracelet. I ended up fleeing her and running into the elevator.” “What about the dream itself? You said that it’s the reason you ran. Do you believe it’s more than a dream?” “I do

2am (Cole’s POV)It’s been twelve weeks since I ran into Deven. While my memory has not returned at least the dreams of the young boy being beaten finally subsided. It took a good two or three weeks but I managed to gain enough skills that Deven moved me out of the medical room into one that was a lot more comfortable. The more comfortable I became with his family the easier things got for me. While I still struggle with everyday things I don’t need them to be quite as strict. Sheila’s patience has made a world of difference when it comes to my ability to eat. My haunting suspicion of everything opened or prepared being poisoned has gone from an intolerable roar that must be followed to more of a whispered reminder of what was once my life. It’s funny to say that considering I don’t know what my life once was. The only memories I have are the new ones formed by Deven and his family. Of course I can’t forget Alpha Cassius and his hospitality either. Luna Arianna took my hand and let

Alpha Cassius, I am sincerely sorry for the rudeness of my sudden departure but I knew deep down I could never tell you where I was going or why. Unlike the hospital, I’m not afraid. Quite the opposite. I am comfortable and cared for. Two of the most foreign feelings I’ve ever known. Despite how weird that sounds I know this is even harder to believe. I have a calling, a greater purpose that I must fulfill. There was no way to know my purpose at Shadowlands until it happened but I do believe bringing to light the abuses your beta indulged in has made your pack a safer place for everyone. I overheard Deven’s conversation with Sheila and how multiple charges were coming against him. My sincerest hope is that he’s removed from your pack and re-educated. It doesn’t matter if spankings are approved and controlled by the council, no one deserves to be beaten. I may not be able to explain why but it is the truth of how I feel. No adult, no child ever deserves to be beaten. Again, I apologize

It only takes a few short minutes for Deven to come back into my office. Fortunately it’s all the time I need to reign in my emotions. He knocks lightly just before he enters. “Is everything alright?” I ask lightly. “I got Clay distracted with the game Cody is playing. Sheila and I have spoken of letting him sleep in our room for a few nights until we know better how he’s going to do without Colton. Even though he imprinted nicely to us he still got very close to Cole.” “I believe Clay is the reason Cole stayed as long as he did.” I speak truthfully exactly what is going through my head. “I just wish that Martina had managed to get what we needed for him a little sooner.” I state sadly as I slowly spin the fleece and leather strapped gps bracelet in my hand. “Is that for him?” Deven notices it easily. “It arrived at the post office yesterday morning but didn’t make it to my desk until today.” He nods. “Honestly, I can’t blame Tina. Even though I sought her out I was hesitant t

(Cole’s POV)It’s been days since I left Dr. Leroux’s house in the middle of the night. Considering August is one of the hottest months of the year, it seemed appropriate to travel at night. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out that way. While I had a few hundred bucks to use on a cheap motel room, I found out that check in is at 3pm and check out is 11am so I’ve been enduring some very hot, very long days. It was after I checked into the first one that I discovered a lot of money in a Manila envelope. It was so discreet that it was only when I pulled the blanket out that I saw it. As grateful as I was for it, finding it increased my guilt of leaving ten fold. Deven was nothing but nice to me, gave me things that every adult should know about yet were very foreign to me. He gave me a simple, black leather wallet and a smartphone. While I was frustrated with it at first it came in very useful on the recent one hundred degree days. I was able to look up homeless shelters that were open

“Dr. Leroux insisted that I wasn’t a rogue.” I explain quietly with my head down. I pick a handful of fries off the plate and take one of the two cups of ranch for dipping. “You are a werewolf. I can smell it.” She keeps her tone low and soft but no longer shocked. “So I’ve been told.” I pop the first of my fries into my mouth, failing miserably to keep a nonchalant attitude. “It bothers you.” Her voice has changed to a mix of shock and sadness. “It’s hard to explain.” I stop as the server returns with drinks and salads. “When I woke up in the hospital several months ago I was diagnosed with dissociative amnesia and dormant wolf syndrome. The doctor there felt that going through what was known about what happened and the long list of injuries that I somehow survived would reverse the amnesia. The amnesia is my brain’s way of protecting me from the trauma that I endured, not just the trauma of this epic battle but, according to him, the trauma of my entire life. He claimed that le

(Melissa’s POV)I leave my seat as his struggle to contain his panic increases. “Cole, push your chair back.” He shakes his head as he tries to cover his ears. “Come to me, Cole. Stand with me.” He’s still shaking his head as he manages to stand.“Lay your head, seek my scent. I promise you’re not cheating on your mate doing this.” I whisper. To my relief, despite his slightly taller size, he does as I request. I wrap my arms around him, rubbing between his shoulders. I can hear a decent wheeze slowly settling into his chest. “You’re asthmatic.” I state, surprised at how honest his first comment to me really was. “Yes.” He manages to wheeze. “Will it ease up as you calm?” He nods against my neck. I continue my slow rub until he’s calm enough to step away. He fights mildly when I place my hands on either side of his face. “Please come with me.” I whisper as I hold him so his forehead is against mine. “Where’s your car?” He responds after a long pause. “About four blocks ea

I look around quickly trying to understand what is going on around me. Colton is in the thick of it, battling four of the eight members on his own. It’s easy to see that they’re taking full advantage of his dormant wolf yet he won’t let them loose. I can do nothing but stare as he tackles each wolf that tries to break away and run towards me. His movements are unlike any fighting style I have seen any pack warriors use and his agility. Well, his agility is far superior to any high ranking warrior I’ve ever seen. It’s as Cole starts to tire that the police officers start breaking up the beat down Cole is enduring. They easily separate and subdue each one until each is on their knees, hands cuffed behind their backs. I slowly start making my way to where Colton now lays on the ground, his will to fight is gone as the danger has been eliminated. “Cole.” I call nervously as I get closer. His eyes are closed, one is obviously against his will. He’s breathing rapidly through his mouth as
