Prologue

It is amazing how quickly time flies. I never would have imagined that I would be able to do all of this for my now five-year-old daughter. As the years passed and I witnessed her growth, I had the impression that it was not a simple process. It seems like just yesterday that I was there to witness her come into the world. That day the nurse brought her in front of me, I remember it clearly. It does not seem like too much time has passed at all. Everything about her was small, and she cried quite a lot. Upon observing how much she has grown over the last few years, I can not help but feel a small amount of pride in myself.Catherine, well done; you accomplished it on your own!I gave a long, heavy sigh. I will be the first to confess that it was difficult to raise a child, mainly when you do it by yourself, but I was able to do it. My journey might not have been simple for us, yet despite this. We were able to pull ourselves up.At the moment, we are at the department store. As my good

Chapter 1: Cailen's Father

"Your father is a multibillionaire and the scion of one of the most wealthy families in the town. Being one of the boys who inherited the most fortune comes with a significant amount of responsibilities. On the other hand, due to the nature of their family business, he is compelled to work overseas, and it is unknown to me when he will return to the country. Keep your faith strong and wait for him to return. Isn't it possible that could happen? I can tell you with certainty, Cailen, that the event was close to taking place.""Why, Mom? You don't have any kind of connection with him, do you? The Internet is currently available everywhere in the world. We are able to communicate with him through video calls sometimes, similar to what some of my other friends do on the weekends with their fathers." she sadly responded, causing me to feel horrible for what I had done and said to her.Hearing those comments caused my abdomen to turn into a knot and my throat to feel as if it had lumps. I ca

Chapter 2: The Encounter

I made the best effort that I could to draw her attention away from Cohen. Based on the direction in which Cailen's eyes were looking, I was confident that our daughter had already acknowledged Cohen as her father. "Cailen, are you feeling alright? I always tell you to be careful. You don't pay any attention to my words. Look! What you've done. You hit a passerby and made inconvenience!" I worked hard to mask the shaking in my voice, acting like I was yelling violently at her. Without any hesitation, I carried her even though she was heavy, and it would have been hard for me to hold her up. The only reason I did this was to get away from Cohen's attention and get him out of that spot. Even though my knees felt like they were made of jelly, I had to keep standing still and hurry away from the scene. I realized the man did not recognize me when I noticed how frequently he cast unusual and strange glances in my direction, as if trying to recall why I am familiar and when the last time h

Chapter 3: Daughter's Tears

My jaw almost dropped when I heard Cailen's last declaration, which made me deaf and lifeless for a few seconds. At that moment, I felt like I just wanted to slip to the ground where I was standing to hide from all the viewers who have accusing eyes. When I looked around, the people there were looking at me and my daughter, including Cohen, as if we had committed some crime. His eyes are full of questions and suspicions, even though he is not sure if he is the one that my daughter called Daddy. I lowered my gaze to hide my face. This is killing me. I felt more embarrassed compared to the time that I learned I was pregnant after a month of having a one-night stand with a mysterious man in the pub."Put me down, Mom; I want to hug him! Let me introduce myself to him. Dad, it's me, Cailen, your daughter! Can't you hear me?" she repeated her phrases, making my eyes even expand, as I felt awkward right now.As I patted Cailen's back to make her calm, I hugged her even tighter despite her op

Chapter 4: Catherine's Bestfriend

It's already late at night, and I still can't sleep. I've been moving from place to place on the bed to see which part is the most comfortable. It's a good thing that Cailen didn't wake up at my action. She was already sound asleep. We will wake up early tomorrow to go to my friend's wedding. It was the reason we are here now. No matter what I do and think, I can't get out of my mind what happened to us earlier at the shopping store. It was as if we were fated to meet there. The second thing that made me nervous was, what if we bump into Joseph? It was not possible to happen, but still, I will believe in my luck not to experience that.I feel so guilty, yes, but it will hurt me more if I confess that he is Cailen's father and he rejects her right away. That's unlikely to happen because, first, I didn't tell him about my pregnancy. It definitely had a significant impact on my daughter's mental health. So while it's still early, I won't do it. I'll tell him everything later when Cailen's

Chapter 5: That Night

Hailey just rolled her eyes at me as if my words were treacherous. Suddenly, she ended the video call while we were presently talking. I always noticed that when it comes to her, she really doesn't want to talk about her mistakes. She wants everything in her favor. That's one of her traits that annoys me most of the time. However, I couldn't hate or dislike her just because of that. Maybe it's because our personalities are not far from each other, or maybe I'm used to her character and her rough behavior already.I called her again, and what greeted me was her smiling, pleased face. Hailey knows me well. Even though I'm getting fed up with her awful behavior, I still can't stand her and leave her alone. My conscience will swallow me alive when I think that of my only friend."Why did you end our call? Are you sulking now? I'll go with you, won't I? You don't have a reason to do that, Hailey."She ignored my question. Hailey is always behaving like that. When I talk about things about h

Chapter 6: Joseph, The Boyfriend

It was only eight o'clock in the evening, and the place was already full of customers. How did I say that? Just in the parking lot, we already had a hard time finding a place for Hailey's car. Unlike before, this time there are not many parking options where we always park. They were all occupied."What's up today? Why does it look like there are so many people in here?" Out of the blue, I raised a question as I was curious about what was happening now while removing the seatbelt attached to my body.Hailey shrugged her shoulders while her eyes were still fixed in front of us to find a parking lot. She's still busy looking for a parking space; her forehead is wrinkled as she scrutinizes the area."I am not sure about other reasons besides it being the weekend, Cathy."The bar that Hailey and I went to was VIP. This one is our favorite. Most of those who come here are famous people who have a say in society. It is a hangout for those in the showbiz industry, such as actors and models. I

Chapter 7: Silly Girl

After Hailey examined the surroundings thoroughly with her eyes, she proceeded to take a seat next to me. Her entire body was moving in time to the pounding rhythm of the loud tune. Even though she was sitting, she subtly lifted one of her hands and moved her body as if she were dancing in order to seduce some of the men who were nearby. I couldn't help but jerk my head. This girl is completely nuts, as she approaches this situation with a free mentality. It was apparent that she really wanted to forget about her problems, even for a bit. What a silly girl. She started ordering drinks from the bartender, who seemed to have recently seen women with faces like ours. A woman who comes to the bar without a man with her tonight for the first time. The way he looked at us was very creepy.Take notice of this: we weren't disclosing too much skin and about the clothes that we were wearing, we are perfectly wrapped. But the way that he peered at us, everyone would have thought that we didn't ev

Chapter 8: Cold, Blank Stare

I stared at her for a few minutes. I wanted to say a lot to her but I chose to remain silent. Yes, I'm a bit hurt by her words, but still, I stopped myself from taking her words seriously and also had a fight with her. She's a bit drunk now."Hailey, just go and do your thing. I don't have any complaints. Do you understand?"Hailey murmured something, but I didn't pay attention to it. My eyes were too busy scanning the whole area to divert my irritation. I am hoping to meet and see some familiar faces who are also having fun at the bar. The music is still loud. I feel like I just want to request that it be turned off now, but I know I can't do that. One of the factors is why I can't quite understand what Hailey's telling me. Add to that the loud shouting of the people all around us as they dance and grind along with the music, which makes her voice almost disappear from my hearing. They are obviously enjoying themselves right now. I guess I'm the only one who doesn't enjoy the moment.

Chapter 9: The Mistake

Waking up with a throbbing headache was the worst aftermath of my night out at the club. It was undoubtedly a hangover. I had indulged in alcohol to the point of blacking out, unable to recall anything that happened that night. Thankfully, I don't need to worry as I have a loyal best friend, Hailey, who always takes care of me. The perks of having a genuine friend.Feeling thirsty, I tried to push aside the heavy drowsiness and ignored my parched throat."I'll get up later," I promised myself.I wrapped myself in the warm blanket, avoiding the effort of getting up to get a drink so my sleep wouldn't get cut. Upon doing that, I realized the room was cold when the air conditioner hit my skin. It made me shiver and tugged myself even more under the blanket. By continue doing this, the cold lessened. Did I leave the window open last night? I remember not being able to sleep in the cold place. I only use the air conditioner during summer, as it makes me sick and catch a cold easily if I
