Chapter 39-Amara

We trained for a good three hours, perfecting my aim with magic and quickening my movements. I had a few moments of doing something I didn't know I could do, one of them being that I accidentally took away Aylin's sight and hearing. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to return them to her. At that point, she magically threw me across the field and threatened to rip out my esophagus if I ever did that to her again. I had wanted to watch my dad kick Roman's ass, but I was too caught up with my training. Aylin was a badass, it seemed like she was trained in everything hand to hand, magic, and she was a boss ass bitch with her dagger. I practically begged her to train me with a dagger and twin blades. I did get the upper hand on her once or twice, but both times she managed to get her dagger and held it to wherever she would have stabbed me. I guess I should be proud that she has over 250 years of experience with me, and I held my own. The two of us, plus Roman and Dad, are wa

Chapter 40-Amara

The next morning, the rest of the gang is finally awake enough to join us for breakfast. I’m buzzing with excitement. My father will start off with magic training, and then I’ll be with Aylin for physical training. Azrael wanted to spar with all the guys, so they won’t be bugging me during training. After that, I plan to explore around here with the girls. I tried to convince Aylin to come with, and after the third “absolutely fucking not” she reached for her dagger and I portaled behind Roman. He had the good sense to stay quiet, but he stiffened, and I swear to Selene I saw him pale slightly. The girls, unable to hide their blatant curiosity, decide to tag along with me to the training grounds. As I’m sitting on one of the chairs while Azrael shows everyone else around, Aylin comes and sits next to me. She places two wooden boxes in my lap. “These are for you. I had the blacksmith make them.” is all she says to me as I look up at her. I look back at the two boxes, the one is lon

Chapter 41-Roman

The second Amara, ever so gracefully, portaled us back into my territory, everyone except her landing on our asses in my office-if, I might add, I was met by a wide-eyed Aston standing behind my desk. I've known this man my entire life and knew when he was about to say something I wouldn't like. And whatever he was about to say would make me want to turn an entire forest to dust. That much was evident as he stuttered over his first words. "Al-Alpha Roman. I'm glad you're back. We have information on vampire movements," he says, meeting my gaze, but I can see the worry in his eyes. Instantly, I'm on my feet and next to him. "Talk," I say, my cold, no-bullshit exterior immediately falling into place. "They attacked the Red Moon Pack. If they knew she wasn't still there and attacked them to send a message, then we're in deep shit. The Alpha and Luna were killed, and they wiped out over half their warriors before The Allies could get there and neutralize them," he sighs. "They've sin

Chapter 42-Amara

I watched as everyone dispersed, and I would be lying if I said I didn't feel all warm and fuzzy. I definitely expected there to be outrage that I was the reason the pack was under imminent attack, but not one single word of defiance came. Everyone was on high alert, yet no one even looked worried. I knew Roman's pack was powerful, but standing here now, watching his pack-our pack-move about the territory, I realized, I have no idea what numbers he has. Honestly, I don't know the first thing about how this works beyond we kill them; they kill us. But I suppose I'll find out pretty fucking quick. I didn't realize I was still staring out at them as Roman wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to him. "What are you thinking?" he says "I'm thinking I don't know the first thing about war or even what your army looks like, and everything feels so real now, you know? Before I was only your Luna in theory, we only had to worry about this attack in theory…." I say and trail off. He squ

Chapter 43-Amara

The second Aylin and I cleared the treeline, every godsdamned vampire turned their head to us. I smiled wickedly as the distraction cost some of them their throats getting torn out before they could even process they found who they were looking for. To my wolves' credit, no one even looked at us, refusing to be distracted. Making sure my mental shields were in place, I let loose any hold I had on my power as it surged to my fingertips, and the vampires that remained fell to the ground writhing as I focused on all their nerve endings. They were all dead instantly as their opponents ripped them to shreds. There was a split second of silence before I felt the vibration of feet on the ground. We all braced ourselves, and then a herd of vampires cleared the borderline and jumped right onto us. Black tinted the edges of my vision, and I didn't fight it away this time. I knew my eyes must have been completely black because the battlefield before me took on a dark tint. I spared myself a q

Chapter 44-Amara

"So…you gonna explain what that was?" I ask Amara as we land in our room "Well, it seems as though I taught myself how to use my mind-reading trick," she says, shaking her head as if she wanted to shake whatever she saw out of her head.Couldn't say I blamed her; I wouldn't want to see what went on in that thing's head."What did you see?" I ask her hesitantly"A bunch of flashes of things that didn't make sense, but they have five thousand vampires left; they started off with ten thousand, but it seems they lost half of them actually finding me, and they undershot their attack here, sending less of them than they had been sending to the other packs. I still don't know what our numbers are like," she says; she sounds a little shaken. "Not five thousand. Half that, maybe a little more," I say, and she nods. Honestly, the numbers were the least of my concern at this point. I needed to know their actual plans; numbers alone don't win you a war. Surely it helps, but it's all strategy.

Chapter 45-Roman

I wake up to Amara shaking me; a golden light is shining through the curtains, telling me it's probably past five in the afternoon, and I slept way too fucking long. "Aylin just called for us. She said to bring your head warrior, beta, and gamma. She told my dad and Az to come too," Amara says. I look at her; she's sitting up in bed, one leg held to her chest, the other crossed. Her eyes are red like she's been rubbing at them, and the black and blue under them tell me she didn't sleep at all. I can't blame her; I only fell asleep so quickly because I was practically a walking zombie. I got a solid two hours in the morning, but after a battle, it just wasn't enough. "Alright, I'll mindlink them to meet us in my office. Did you sleep?" I ask her, sending them all a quick mindlink. She shakes her head. "Too much on my mind," she mutters, and I nod my head "We'll get through this; plenty of people are on our side. You've come such a long way. I'll hand my soul to Hades himself be

Chapter 46-Amara

Training, sleeping, and trying to eat. That’s what the last week has consisted of. Nothing but toast and peanut butter has appealed to me. Roman at least went and got an herbal ginger tea from Blair, so I’m not nauseous all the time from the anxiety. Anxiety is eating at me; I jump and call my twin blades or dagger to my hand when I hear any kind of noise, thinking it’s the alarms signaling an invasion. It makes me want to train more, and I’m already training morning to night with my dad, Azrael, and Aylin here. I even sparred with Roman and Seth a couple times when I was still feeling restless after training all day. Then, I crawl into bed and fall right asleep, sometimes even without a shower or without Roman there. The last time we even had sex was in the shower while we were in the Underworld. I’ve barely talked to Tamisra either; she’s unusually sleepy. Even when I’m training, she’s snoring in my head, and I have to block her out. Something is up; I’ve had anxiety since my pare

Chapter 47-Amara

I groan, waking up a little as I'm dropped onto a hard surface, hitting my head. Fuck, my head hurts, my jaw hurts, my neck hurts. Why does it smell like mold and mildew? What the fuck happened? I try to ask Tamisra what the fuck happened, but when I don't feel her, I'm immediately flooded with the events of today. Adrenaline shoots through me, my eyes fly open, and I sit up. My baby! My baby, I close my eyes and listen, hearing his strong heartbeat and sighing in relief that he's okay. Then, I look at my surroundings. I'm in a cage, one I've seen before, in that bastard's memory. It looks the same in person. There's the dirty cot with a paper-thin mattress, a puke green blanket that makes me itchy just looking at it, a stained pillow, chains with handcuffs on either side of the bed, and a bucket beside it. I shudder. I turn around when I hear metal screeching and clunking, seeing Felix close and lock the door. Well, I was much happier when I thought he was dead-Aylin was right; I

Chapter 48-Amara

Amara’s POV-a few hours laterI must have fallen asleep at some point because I’m abruptly woken up by violent crashes and yelling. I shoot up in bed, my hopes soaring. “Get up,” Damon says, approaching me; I hesitate. I would be stupid to try and fight my way out of this; I’m way too weak. I jump when my door crashes open, and Samirah runs in. “He’s down; the back hall is our only way out. A female demon and a male wolf are guarding the door. We have to go now; Silas will be coming here any minute,” she says to Damon as she runs over to me and jerks me out of bed. I stagger, my head getting light. No! I just need to stay here, bide time, it won’t take them long to get here! She steadies me before she looks at Damon.“Can you carry her?” she says. I step back just as she looks at me. “Amara, we’re going to get you out of here; if you want to go home, you must listen to us. You’ll be too slow if you try to run; either let Damon carry you or get on my back. Silas is coming here now.
