Chapter Twenty One

We got to a super big house a little bit late, and indeed the ride was long. They told me they were near the agency when they got the call, but lived quite far.We arrived after about three hours, and the time said eight thirty nine.I was tired.Mom noticed."I'll show you to your room so you can rest," she said and took me up a flight of STAIRS Cool. She led me to a door similar to every other door, and opened it."This is your room."I only noticed that it was huge.I said a sleepy "Thanks" to her and flopped myself on the bed.Tomorrow will be a good day, different from any I've ever imagined.I smiled in my dreams. Finally, I'm home.-----My eyes opened instinctively, and even if the sunlight didn't enter my eyes, I would still have woken up early.Courtesy of Lilian. For a split second I wondered where I was, and why my bed all of a sudden was comfortable.I quickly jerked up in a moment of panic and looked around, lost for a bit. Then it all came rushing back; my parents. . .m

Chapter Twenty Two

I became excited to take a shower. But before that, I got out a few of my stuff and laid them in the wardrobe which was empty.I paused at my memory box, opened it and took out the small blanket, squeezing it to my chest for an emotional second, then stuffed it away and went for a bath..I was running my hand through my hair when a knock came."Please come in," I said.Mom opened the door and entered. She was already dressed in an indigo cotton shirt and black flare pantsuit."Good morning mom," I said and blushed a little. It's been a while calling someone that. She smiled, took my face in her hands and kissed both my cheeks."Hope you slept well?" she asked tenderly, and I almost melted."Yeah, like a baby," I replied, and she smiled."If you're done, we're having breakfast now. Come on down, and after we'll take you on a house tour and talk a little. You know, cover old grounds."That was a rather strange way to put it for some reasons, but I nodded."I'm done."As we walked downs

Hi, good morning dad," I greeted. He kissed my cheeks too."Morning, sweetie," he replied, and we all settled down to breakfast. There was toast, beverage, omelette, custard, jam, and some apples. My eyes widened at so much food that I didn't know what to do.Dad noticed, and carefully filled my plate."Eat up," he joked, and I chuckled."Thanks."It all tasted good, better than anything I've ever eaten. They were silent through out breakfast. After breakfast, a lady I didn't even notice came in and began clearing the table, while we retreated to the living room. And it was wow.We settled down on the settee, mom and I on one, and dad on a single sofa.I waited for them to speak."Sweetie," dad began, ''You probably don't know how happy we are to find you. After eighteen long years.""Why did it take so long?" I couldn't help but ask. "I mean. . .""Yes, we know what you mean," dad said while mom smoothed my hair."You. . . you were taken from us. It was after you were born. Your mothe

I threw my arms around mom first, and dad later."Thank you," I said.I didn't know about the posters or ads because I was always locked inside by whoever was fostering me. Mom cleaned my tears."its in the past now. Let's leave it there.""Yes," dad said, getting up. "And now, if you will excuse me, I'll have to get to work." He kissed my cheeks, and mom too.''I'll be back early today so we can discuss with Anne.""Discuss what?" I asked with my brows furrowed."In the evening," dad said, and went out.I turned to mom."Mom....what?""She laughed. " And I've just discovered that you're nosy. Now come on. A tour of the house, some shopping, and we might just get to know each other better."I knew she was dodging the topic, but I went along.I'll find out in the evening. We finished our tour. The house was big, but not really, with just one floor. And there were a few fields and flowers. It looked new to me, and when I asked mom, she said that they'd bought it recently.."Mom, isn't

Casa_del_LeonardoItalySunset was a perfect view from my window, especially with the palm trees framing it like some ethereal picture.I held a goblet of wine in one hand, while the other was folded across my chest.I took a sip rolling it with my tongue to get the taste. Not very good. I didn't expect it to be, because the best wines were plucked by my own people, fermented on my own terms, branded under my own name and stored in my own cellar.I peered into the cup, and gulped down the rest of the contents.Italy was a pretty warm place during the day, and our casa (house) was no exception. But it tended to be a bit cold at night; though not as cold as my house in Sicily, Buona Fortuna. That was some sort of private reservation. After setting the cup on the table beside the window, I took out a shirt from the wardrobe and wore it. I looked up at the clock above the bed.Time for family dinner.I sighed.Family dinners were not experiences I looked forward to..Dinner.Portia Leon

As a family."Sergio muttered something and sat back down, but I stood still , staring at her.sit, she said to me again, in a more commanding tone.I scoffed."I know the conditions for the will, and I've

Chapter Twenty Seven

I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and watched as mom and dad cleaned their faces with the serviette. That was rude, but I have bigger problems."What do you mean 'getting married'?" I asked again. "For christ sakes I'm only eighteen. And I just got here. I'm supposed to. . .live with you, get to know each other. What the hell do you mean!?" I asked again. "Don't. . .don't you want me? Are you that desperate to give me away just after you've found me?""Oh honey don't talk like that," mom said and reached out to place her hand over mine, but I pulled it away. She sighed. "Emily... it was an agreement. It was endorsed since. . .well, we really needed to find you and we needed help so---""This is bullshit," I said, not regretting my use of vulgar words, "So you sold me so that you can find me? That doesn't make any sense.""Please try to understand us. A deal's a deal, and---""Who?" I cut in."We don't really know, but he's a friend of ours. Very nice and kind."They were both

LorenzoFestus just called to say that Fergus was almost here. I got up from the seat in the study and stretched myself. Then I downed the remaining glass of wine and went into my room. A knock came on my door, and the knob turned as Portia came in."Dios! I told you to always knock!" She closed the door behind her and smiled. She always looked different when she smiled, like the mother she was when I was little. It always brought back memories, and I found myself wondering why she changed. That was then. Now, I knew her not as the mother she was but as the greedy woman she'd become. Not "madre" again, but as Portia. She stepped into the room."Lorenzo, you know I'm in full support of you taking control of the Mafia.""Last I remember, you were totally against it," I replied drily."Sì, I know. But now I want to support you. That's why I want to help. I've found you a bride.""What the hell are you talking about!?" I shot out. "I don't need your help, OK? And I've already gotten a wif

EmilyI managed an appreciative smile at the driver, who just nodded as he took my box inside. Another suited man came out and drove the car away from the entrance. I returned my gaze to the house in front of me, and oh my gosh! It was huge and had this antique quality to it; it was like an ancient house, perhaps it was a legacy. It was coated with dark grey marbles plastered on the walls; it gleamed in the midday sun. In front of the house were mowed green lawns which were surrounded by the same grey stones. There were about six steps leading to the door, and I climbed them slowly. The house might be beautiful, but it wasn't home. With a sigh, I lifted a trembling hand to knock on the door when suddenly it opened and a woman came rushing out. She immediately pulled me to her bosom in a tight hug, and she smelled of spices, bread, and fruits, which was a comforting smell."Oh, welcome, welcome!" she said with a huge smile, holding my hands as if we were long-time friends."Uh... thank
