Raine and I laid down together, our paws dipping into the pool. We decided not to go back, at least not yet. It felt good to be in wolf form. It was like we could finally breathe. We’d been holding our breath under water for so many years and now we broke through, able to take a true full breath. Kat’s look of terror also stopped us from heading back to the shop.For a long time, we were just quiet; our mind empty as we took in the forest around us. None of the creatures in the area bothered us. Once or twice a deer would make its way to drink from the pool but none of them seemed put off by our presence. That was until Raine growled at the fawn who came sniffling a little too close. They took off together after that.Normally, the forest was a quiet sanctuary for me. From the leaves blowing in the trees, to the crickets in the grass, to the sound of the river, it was anything but quiet. Instead, it was able to fill the silence the both of us were avoiding.
