Chapter 21

Marc led her through the palace, down multiple corridors before pushing open a thick arched wooden door, revealing a strip of green grass leading into the trees, Klara looked around noticing that it was the same place she saw Marc in the mornings. “Go behind a tree and let your wolf free,” Marc nodded to the treeline. “I’d strip first.”  “Erm… what about the bandag-” but before Klara could finish her sentence all her bones broke at once, she let out a cry but before Marc could grab her, her husky wolf burst through her skin. “You couldn’t wait two seconds?” Marc looked down knowing Klara wasn’t in control. Her light and dark grey head shook in a no. “We won’t be able to speak to each other… you still need to pledge loyalty to the crown.” Klara’s wolf head nodded, noting to Klara that they needed to do that. Marc turned from her to pull his clothes off, not that he cared, but he didn’t want to embarra

Chapter 22

They stepped onto a grassy field, she didn’t feel a fear of all the other wolves around, she didn’t feel they would know she’s weak… because she no longer felt weak. As they reached the field, a few individuals were sparring, while others were lifting boulders and tree trunks. An adolescent approached them then dove on Marc. Klara jumped slightly as the sudden attack. Marc quickly wrestled the adolescent to the ground, pinning him, “You think a surprise attack is really going to help you against me?” He cocked his head down at the pup.  “Had to try,” he sassed back as he pushed Marc off him.

Chapter 23

It was a few days later, her and Marc had grown more intimate but she wasn’t quite ready for him to mark her. She was enjoying having her wolf, even though she was still getting used to the primal thoughts that seemed to pop up. Her wolf didn’t seem to quite understand that Klara was in charge of her skin body and would regularly pipe up in conversation.    Klara took a deep breath as soon as she got onto the balcony. It had just stopped raining and she loved the sweet smelling aroma, the water droplets made the trees look covered in thousands of jewels with the sun appearing behind the last of the clouds. She hummed and leant to rest her chin on the stone railing.   A flash of white brought Klara’s attention to between the trunks, she scanned wondering if she imagined it. She gulped and ducked as the head of a black and grey wo

Chapter 24

As her teeth pierced his skin, Marc let out a surprised yell but held out a hand to stop anyone from interfering. “Get him out of here!” he growled through gritted teeth. Marc eyed the guards that had Alpha Silversmith gripped before they began pulling him. He struggled and began bucking against the guards, hatred and power rippling from him. “No! I am an Alpha! I am not one of your subjects!” Marc ignored him as he was pulled from the room, his Alpha command couldn’t work, he held no loyalty to the crown.   “Klara, he’s gone, you need to calm yourself.” There was a sharp intake of breath from Klara before her teeth retracted from him. “Marc! I’m-I’m,” she stammered and attempted to back away from him but he didn’t release his grip. “It’s OK, you’re fine.”  She sobbed next to him before licking her bite, sniffling and whimpering. “I know, it

Chapter 25

The door burst open making Klara jump and Marc look from his papers. “I came as quickly as I could!” Xander came to a stop in front of his old desk. “Are you both OK?”  “Fine father. I dealt with it, we both dealt with it. You didn’t need to run here.” Xander and Elsbeth had been visiting another pack, Marc had felt it a good idea to give his father time out of the castle. “I didn’t, we drove. I was worried. Where’s the bastard now?”  “Silversmith is in the cells, I’m dealing with him tomorrow. It’s all in hand father.” Marc tightened his grip around Klara, she still held some fear for Xander and Marc could feel it trickling through to him. “I apologise Klara, but justice must be served,” Xander spoke a little tightly, as if worried she would argue her father’s punishment

Chapter 26

Klara awoke to a hand over her mouth. She wriggled, “Shh Sweetie don’t want to wake up the King,” a voice breathed into her ear so low she only just heard it. She knew that voice. Bile rose in her throat. “Ah, don’t even think about it.” He grabbed her hand that was sliding to prod Marc. She looked around, tears pricking at her eyes. She shook her head before trying to bite at his hand. “You’re going to get out of bed, and come with me quietly,” he breathed barely audibly. Klara decided and nodded. He nodded his head in the gloom, removing his hand from her mouth. Gripping her arm to pull her from the bed.    She screamed.   The blood curdling sound echoed around the room until it was squashed in her throat by his hand. She tried to swallow but his hand was gripped so tight there was nothing more she could do. Marc was out of be

Chapter 27

Klara woke up and cuddled closer into Marc. She wrapped her arms around him tightly feeling so many emotions for him. It didn’t hurt, and Adelaide was right. Everything had felt so right, her world had slotted right into place as if she’d always been off a few degrees until that moment. She tightened her arms around his waist while he slept. “If you’re trying to stop me breathing, the neck is more effective,” he muttered, his eyes still closed. He enveloped her in his arms, regretfully knowing he would have to get up soon and get to work. They both smiled in each other's embrace.    “Marc?” Klara mumbled.  “Yes, little one?” He kissed the top of her head. “You didn’t hurt me.” Her baby blue eyes peered up to him. He smiled, a warmth spreading in his chest. He pulled her so she was eye level

Chapter 28

Marc composed himself after nearly killing the Alpha... that would have done him no good. It would be easier for him to pledge, automatically making his pack loyal, than getting every one of his wolves to give their loyalty individually. He sighed quietly to himself before turning back to Charlie.“Where is the one brought in this morning?” Charlie gave a short nod, turning before he led Marc further down the dirt corridor. He stopped a few cells down. “Fucking bastard,” the oak haired man Klara had identified as Derrek sneered, being as close to the silver bars as he dared. “You’ve committed treason. What do you say?” Marc asked mildly, keeping the hellfire of fury from his voice.“It’s not treason, you pathetic excuse of a King. We don’t recognise your rank. All I did was to save a poor defenseless girl from a bloodthirsty maniac!”“Believe what you wish. We both know who’s a disgusting excuse for a wolf here.” Marc’s lip curled in revulsion. “She told me all about you, you know?”

Chapter 29

Marc approached the door to leave the underground jail, Derrek’s screams still lingering unpleasantly in his ears. Blinking at the bright light as he pushed on the heavy door. “Get the Alpha to accept the crown, any means necessary,” Marc commanded. “Kill the rest.” “Yes my King… If he doesn’t accept?” “There will be no survivors of his pack. Tell him if he accepts he’ll be able to leave with his daughter.” He saw the confused looks on all the guards faces. “Did I say it’s the truth?” Instantly the guards looked down, realising they had questioned him. “Of course, my King.”   As he passed the guard training ground, he saw them all assembled, Jesse bellowing at them. Marc strode o

Chapter 30

Marc hadn’t gained any information from the reports, and the meetings with the guards had drawn a blank. He had to punish all on the two shifts, with all denying knowledge he had been left with no alternative. This meant, the King’s court had to be called to discuss their options. His father had suggested whipping, Wade had suggested they forfeit their days off. His father’s old beta, Andrew suggested a stint within the cells.  Marc passed a hand over his face with the five men around the table, “They have to know something.” “Then get the information out of them, son.” “I’m not torturing half our guards.” “Is there anything off on the reports?” Trey asked, seeing
