Ch. 79 A Suggestion

Lauren’s POV “Fuck!” I growled, throwing my head back a little too forcefully against the wall outside my assigned guestroom. Nothing was going my way. First, Finn refused to even consider my proposal that we give Mason a traditional family. Then, my attempts to persuade his precious mate to do the right thing and let him go turns into a near-brawl. One Finn just happened to walk in on. And of course he took her side. How could I be so ignorant of everything the mate bond entailed? It was just one more example of my father’s antiquated ideas, teaching us that the “magic” of the mate bond was only for those who’d been blessed by the Moon Goddess with a mate and not to be spoken of with unmated wolves. When in reality, it was just another way for him to exert control. Not knowing they would be able to extract the truth from Sarah’s mind had led me to get caught in a lie. One that only proved how far I was willing to go to get what I wanted. Any ground I might have gained with Fi

Ch. 80 A Covert Operation

Sarah’s POV Kat left to help at the clinic as soon as our conversation ended. The thought of sneaking a sample of Mason and Finn’s DNA had me on edge and I was anxious to get it over with as soon as possible. But first, I had to find out where my boys were at the moment. “Hey, handsome! Are you still with the Alphas?” I linked Zayne before I chose a direction. “Hi princess! The fake meeting is actually over. I swear those two will do anything their Luna asks them to.” He linked back and I could sense the affectionate humor in his tone. “Speaking of Luna, how was your visit with Kat?” “It was good. She was just worried about me but I assured her I was fine. She had to run to the clinic. Where are you now? We can meet and go find Finn and Mason together.” I was hoping he had an idea where they might be, and I was hoping it wasn’t anywhere near Lauren! “Just come back to the room. We’re all here. Mason said his tummy was too full of pancakes and he needed to rest. He’s asleep in

Ch. 81 You Have To Stay

Zayne’s POV Sarah and I returned to our room to pack while Finn took Mason to find his mother. The fact that the Light Fae Queen was willing to meet us and hear our concerns was a small victory and I knew I should be excited about it but my heart was heavy. By the way Sarah dragged along silently beside me, it was easy to see she felt the same. It was just terrible timing. Not that there is ever a good time to have your entire existence threatened. And I knew I should feel grateful that the Queen was even entertaining us. But we still didn’t have answers on Mason’s paternity and we were just beginning to bond with him. It wasn’t a good time for any of us to be leaving, but thinking about Finn having to walk away from his son right now was making me sick to my stomach. “Do you think Finn should stay here?” Sarah’s question echoed my unspoken thoughts. “I’m not sure.” I shook my head, as if it would clear my warring ideas and present a definitive solution. “I absolutely detest t

Ch. 82 Exciting News

Lauren’s POV I couldn’t believe my luck. It had to be a sign from the Goddess that things were meant to work out in my favor. It was like Selene was handing me Finn on a Silver platter. Finding the lab tech responsible for the paternity test results had been a bit of a challenge. But once I did, convincing him to ensure the results I wanted was easy. As fate would have it, he was slightly overweight with a pot belly and an unfortunate case of adult acne. A bit of flirting and a promise of more when the results were delivered were all it took to secure his cooperation. By the time I’d returned to the packhouse, I was on cloud nine. Even Finn’s cold attitude towards me couldn’t ruin my good mood. But that was before he’d shown up at my door, asking for Mason to spend the night with him, stating that he didn’t want to sleep alone. Apparently his mates had been called away and would be gone for Goddess only knew how long, leaving Finn behind to continue bonding with Mason. I could

Ch. 83 A Convincing Argument

Finn’s POV I quickly released Lauren’s arm as the faint scent of her arousal hit my nose. Too furious at her blatant disregard for my mates, I hadn’t noticed the way I’d pulled her body against mine. But as soon as I sensed her lustful response, I couldn’t get away from her fast enough. A small whimper from Mason had me seeking him out and a wave of guilt immediately washed over me at the frightened look on his face. “Hey, buddy. I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you. Daddy would never hurt you or mommy. “ I apologized profusely, cuddling him in my arms and rubbing his back to calm his fear. “I know, daddy.” He patted my back like he was the one comforting me. “Lauren, why don’t you go behind that tree and shift?” I pointed to a massive sequoia at least three times the diameter of her small frame. “Then your wolf can stay with Mason while I shift.” She walked away without a word, following my instructions. I knew she was angry at my response to her, hoping for more from me.

Ch. 84 Welcome To Ciral

Zayne’s POV Sarah slept fitfully in my arms as the plane touched down in Fae territory. We had been traveling most of the day and Sarah had cried through most of it until she finally succumbed to exhaustion. Even Kat’s attempts to cheer her up had fallen flat. Just before we boarded the plane, Finn had called to inform us of the test results he’d received. He was over the moon to learn that Mason was his and we were overjoyed as well, having already fallen in love with the pup regardless of his paternity. Sarah and I both tried to show our support and happiness for Finn but the news only made the separation harder. I was especially concerned when Sarah seemed to zone out, a faraway look in her eye. It was almost like she knew something the rest of us didn’t but was trying to hide it. She played it off, telling me she just wished we could be there to bond as a family, but I couldn’t shake the feeling there was more to it. I wanted to discuss it further, but the second I hung up the

Author's Note

Hello Wonderful Readers, First and foremost, thank you so much to all who have stuck with A Tangled Fate this far! I truly appreciate all the love this story has received! It means the world to me! Our lead characters arre currently facing another challenge and I know from my own reading experiences how frustrating that can be. It is especially true in my stories because I love creating characters people love to hate. So, I thank you for your patience with me. I just want to remind everyone, especially those new to the series, that this book is the second in a trilogy and it's primary focus is the romantic relationship between the main characters and the struggles they face to get to their HEA (I promise there will be one). The threat to the wolf species will be addressed in more depth later in this book but will not culminate until book three. And fair warning, while I can promise a HEA for the main characters as far as their relationship is concerned, I cannot promise that all w

Ch. 85 Convincing a Queen

Sarah’s POV “Finn has decided to go to Sacred Moon with Lauren and Mason. As Lauren’s mate.” I felt the impact of Zayne’s words like a physical blow. Was he trying to hurt me? Why would he say such a thing? “You're lying!” I spit at him. “He would never do that to me. To us. Why would you say that to me?” “Shhh! Princess, calm down.” Zayne pulled me into his lap and wrapped his arms tightly around me. “I promise it’s not what you think. He will just pretend to be her mate to convince her parents and stop them from coming for her and Mason. He believes it is the only way to prevent a war between packs and keep Mason safe. And I have to admit, I can’t think of a better idea.” “So you gave him your blessing already? The two of you just decided this without even talking to me?” I was livid! How could they leave me out of such an important decision? “It wasn’t like that, princess. All of this has taken its toll on you. We just didn’t want to interrupt what little rest you’ve been a

Ch. 86 A Truth Revealed

Sarah’s POV Telling the Fae Queen about our nightmares felt more like an inquisition than the voluntary sharing of information. Raine, as she told us to call her, only seemed to be satisfied with nothing less than the tiniest details of not only our dreams, but everything surrounding them. “Do you have these dreams every night?” She asked, to which we both answered with a very thankful no. “What were you doing right before you fell asleep on the night of your last nightmare?” Kat nearly choked on her orange juice and I could feel my face burning with embarrassment over her question. I looked at Kat in panic and the horror-struck expression she wore told me she didn’t want to answer the question any more than I did. “That’s personal.” Ryan answered for her, clearing his throat uncomfortably. “I agree.” Zayne chimed in, a small smirk on his face that I wanted to smack off. “Wolves.” Raine said with an eye roll and a shake of her head. “I apologize if my questions seem invasive. Ch. 87 Enough For Everyone

Lauren’s POV We had arrived at Sacred Moon territory earlier in the day and settled into the packhouse. My parents were out on pack business but expected back by evening. I had come to Finn’s room to invite him to dinner with my family, excited to introduce him to my parents. Unfortunately, per my usual bad timing, he was in the shower. I was about to leave when I heard his phone vibrate on the dresser. Curiosity getting the better of me, I picked it up to see that someone he called “Kitten” was calling. I could only assume it was his mate, Sarah. I let the call go to voicemail and was about to set the phone down when a brilliant idea occurred to me. Finding his phone had no passcode set, I quickly opened it and composed a text to her, all while listening carefully for the shower to turn off. I hit the send button, then as soon as the text went through, I deleted the message from his text thread. Next, I changed the number he had saved under “Kitten” to the number to an old pho
