Chapter Fifty

ARTHUR'S POVElsa was looking at me. With that single question she had just asked, silence reigned. I didn't know why she would ask that; I was a leader, not a tyrant."Who said anything about going back to the dungeon?" I threw back."You've not said anything at all." She said, her hands fiddling with each other. She was nervous."I'm here to apologize for what happened earlier in the hallway," I said, apologizing wasn't a regular thing I do, but I felt like the needed to do that in this situation. Elma's eyes widened, making her look almost animated."I'm sorry?""I apologized for what happened earlier, did you not hear me?" "I did. It's just that you didn't strike me as the apologizing kind.""That's ridiculous, every human being must apologize to someone." When had it gotten like this, we were now talking about the behavioral aspects of people."Okay, you've apologized which I think is great, do I get to participate in the training?""No," I said sternly."Why not? If we're part

Chapter Fifty-one

ARTHUR'S POVThe way Elsa and Ursula grew quiet had my suspicion going over the roof. While Elsa's eyes looked like they were popping at any moment, Ursula had her eyes anywhere but me."I'm not going to repeat myself.""Um... She was talking about the footman. I found out today that he was a great conversationalist and she was just confirming.""You don't want to see her with the footman?" I asked Ursula. It made no sense."No, I told her to let the maids do certain things for her. She can't keep coming to the kitchen for milk and cookies, a maid was assigned to her, she should use them." "Why don't you use the maids? They are at your disposal after all.""I'm sorry, I would start today," Elsa said, her eyes still wide."Are you okay? You look pale." And she had, her eyes fixed on Ursula."Is there a problem?""No," Ursula answered. "Absolutely nothing. Everything is so good." Elsa exhaled.***"Can I talk to you?" I called after Elsa, who was rushing back toward her room. Sweating.

Chapter Fifty-two

ELSA'S POV Even though there were so many options for me in the clothing section, I had my eyes as straight as an arrow. I didn't even permit myself in looking sideways to look at something twice with the fear of getting caught up in something.  Nobody knew I was gone, not even Nia. It was best for her not to know so that she wouldn't go through the trouble of lying to me and getting caught. Gunther was king and he had given me the go-ahead I needed... Well, sort of.  The more the seconds ticked by, the further I felt my stomach go down in fear. I ended up picking up three pink exercise crop tops and two pairs of yoga pants, that should do it. Just as I wanted to go quickly to the cashier to pay, my eyes caught a few baby clothes, adorable baby clothes. It was like a splash of cold wate

Chapter Fifty-three

GULTHER'S POV I paced back and forth in my office. I saw red. Literally. I was angry. I was disappointed. I felt used. I had specifically asked Elsa not to do anything stupid and she assured me I had nothing to worry about. She assured me that the one week time she had done in the cell had done her some good, yet here we were on the same road we all thought we'd moved on from. Andrew said nothing, he just sat there watching my every movement. He knew me well enough to understand that talking to me when I was angered was not a very bright thought.  "You need to calm down, she was not injured was she." "That is not the problem, the problem is that she had left even after all the talks we've had. What if she was shot? Or kidnapped, or killed. How can one be so careless with their own life?"

Chapter Fifty-four

ELSA'S POV It was safe to say I didn't know what to say. His gaze was not withering at all, my eyes kept trying to avoid his gaze but anytime my eyes traveled back to his face, I saw them, his eyes. Questioning. Waiting.  "I don't know what to say. I just find myself, even when I don't want to, going against everything you've earned me against. I'm sorry. I thought everything was going to go smoothly, that it would be just me going out like another random day. I had no idea the rogue was behind me." I blurted. Not waiting for him to say anything in return, I dived back in. "And I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm happy that tracking chip was installed in me, because who knew right? Maybe I would have been in a body bag now." I laughed nervously, immediately cutting it off as his frown deepened. Shouldn't have done that. The room was quiet. I wou

Chapter Fifty-five

ELSA'S POVThe morning came as quickly as ever. I didn't know if it was because I had been waiting for this day and I couldn't get any sleep in. Curiosity and passion, but as the Cornbraids were coming today, I had never been more excited. As soon as I was done making my bed, I raced into the bathroom and cleaned up so fast, it only took me ten minutes to do so. I wondered if I was the only one up because everywhere was so quiet I was certain I could hear a pin drop to the floor. As soon as I was done dressing, I practically raced down the stairs, hurrying to go get something from the fridge before it was time for breakfast and I get to pretend I'm classy just like the rest of the occupants in the room. Who was I kidding? I had never enjoyed eating with cutleries. Not even when Arthur continued forcing. I was thankful that Gulther for once had never asked me to use the cutlery. Just as I made me to the fridge, handle in hand I heard smooching sounds and murmurs. I didn't know anyone

Chapter Fifty-six

ARTHUR'S POVFor some reason, the thought of everyone knowing I liked Elsa bugged me. Not because she wasn't beautiful enough or up to my standards, if anything she had overpassed the test. But she was too young, and just like I said, for a reason I couldn't use identity, I knew it was a bad idea.  I noticed her smiling brightly as the guard announced the arrival of the trainers. I was torn, how was I supposed to say no to her in front of everyone? After last night. As king, you always think that how to fight a war is the only decision that gives you a restless mind, well... It's not true. "Let the corn braids in and take them to their quarters," I said. The guard nodded and walked away. The dining room was quiet and even without looking up, I knew they were all staring at me. For different reasons, I was

Chapter Fifty-Seven

ELSA'S POV When Agatha came to my room to tell me that it was time for lunch and that the King sent for me, I told him to tell him I wasn't coming. It was a bold move and I had no reason to put her in a difficult situation, but earlier today when he didn't even budge while making the decision that I go to the field and clear it up, I was not going to budge declining his offer. I was hungry, and this baby needed all the nutrition it could get, it was already decided, I was passing this. I was washing my hands after using the toilet, when I heard a knock on my door, if it was Agatha, I didn't think I was going to be as gentle as I was the last time. The person knocked again, I wiped my hands on the back of my jeans, habit, I entered the room and sat on my bed. I wasn

Chapter Fifty-eight

NIA'S POVAs I saw Arthur stomp away, clearly going upstairs, I feared for Elsa. I wondered what was happening up there. The dining table was rounded with me, Ursula, Andrew, and some members of the Conbraids. Silas was still uncomfortable, his face when Arthur requested he sit next to me told me that much. He kept on tossing the chicken on his plate, avoiding eye contact with me. It went on for too long, I had to break the silence. "How did you see the mansion? Hope your leg doesn't hurt from all that walking?" I tried joking, maybe that would make him comfortable, but it didn't. "Great, I enjoyed the view. You hardly see a place so homely and so sophisticated nowadays. It even has a love garden." He said, laughing to himself. It sounded great. I didn't know if I was supposed to be thinking about how good his

Chapter Fifty-nine

NIA'S POV"Why do you want to know?" I asked. Something was definitely up with Elsa and Arthur. First, she wouldn't even identify the problem they seem to have had. Second, he went upstairs to fetch her himself when she refused to eat lunch."Nothing. I was just thinking that I have never actually heard you talk about both of you and your story. I would love to hear it." Elsa said, her face expressionless."Well, it was through the regular way, 'the pick'" Elsa's brow shot up in question and I rushed to explain. "It's an event where the people both outside and inside royalty brought their mature enough daughters who have already wolfed out for the king to choose from.""So if he chooses her, what happens next?" Elsa asked."He becomes her husband and she bares him an heir," I answered. Elma sat quietly as if contemplating what to say next."And if he doesn't see a person he wants there?""It's not possible, well... It is possible, but it's mandatory that he has to choose one.""So how
