Chapter 101

Chapter 101I hurried along to my room, carrying the basket underneath my arm with great care.As I walked briskly to my room, I could feel tension fluid in my legs.Alisa had been right. All the pacing I did earlier was beginning to tell on me.My guards seemed surprised as I appeared around the corner and walked quickly into my chambers. They hadn't noticed when I had slipped between them on my way to the garden.Once I entered my room, I shut the door quickly behind me and mind-linked Brie. “Brie, please come to my room immediately. I need the parcel,” I shot to her mentally. She couldn't respond because she didn't have such powers but I hoped she had gotten my message and understood the urgency of it.I opened the basket and set about separating the plants I had picked. Some of them were the ones Alisa and I needed and the other three belonged to me.I still couldn't differentiate between the two plants I needed but there was no time for me to carry out any research. I could feel

Chapter 102

Chapter 102As Gabriel walked briskly and bought me closer to the kitchen, I peeked open one eye to see if Alisa had noticed that my herbs were in the parcel. However, she was talking to a maid and hadn’t yet looked at the herbs that lay open before her.“Alisa!” I called out with a smile as Gabriel finally got to the kitchen with me in his arms.“Daciana, what’s going on?” Alisa asked me warily as she looked at me with a raised brow.I waved her concern off and signaled Lea to bring my chair closer.“Nothing serious, just my legs acting up again,”I replied to her with a smile as Gabriel dropped me into my wheelchair.“Did you know that Arnou called a meeting?”Alisa asked me with a sigh as the maid she had been talking to, gave me a bow and excused herself.“Arnou and I are not supposed to be talking remember? I didn’t get the memo,” I replied to her as I wheeled my chair closer to her.My goal was to keep her attention focused on me, that way she might forget to look at the parcel.

Chapter 103

Chapter 103“My gosh Alisa, you startled me,” I hissed in irritation as I carefully dropped the pestle I had been using to crush some herbs.“What’s the problem?” I asked her a bit worried at her obvious panic.“We have to leave. Hurry!” Alisa mumbled as she bent low and began to cart away the materials I was using to make the potion.“What is wrong with you? Careful, you might touch something. And what do you mean we have to leave?” I asked Alisa, annoyed as I tried to stop her from picking up and dismantling my workspace.“Herley, Arnou, and half of the generals are on their way here. We need to get rid of all traces of the potion Now!” Alisa explained as she resumed hurriedly clearing the space.“Help her!” I ordered Gabriel as I wheeled my chair backwards to give them space to work.“Why are Arnou and the generals coming here with Herley? What happened at the meeting?” I asked Alisa worriedly as I watched them clear and clean up all the equipment I had used.“It’s a good thing. Ki

Chapter 104

Chapter 104I scrunched my brows worriedly as I watched Gabriel and Lea try to wake Brie up. I was running out of time and Brie wasn't any closer to waking up than she had been an hour ago.I knew Lea was tired. She tried to hide it but I caught her yawning several times. Brie wasn't dead order terribly maimed she was just in a really deep sleep.I was growing frustrated moment by moment as we tried everything we could think of to rouse her. Sometimes it might seem like she was waking up, but she would be incoherent and go back to sleep immediately.“High Luna, permit me to say but Brie isn't waking up. We've tried everything we can think of. I think her body just needs time to recuperate,” Lea complained in a low voice.Gabriel nudged her and she kept quiet. They were currently messaging Brie's limbs to stimulate blood flow and wake her up.“I know Lea,” I sighed in frustration.“It's just I gave her something important to keep for me and I need it before dawn,” I explained as I whee

Chapter 105

Chapter 105I walked briskly down the hallway with a singular goal on my mind. The bottle that held the source of my anxiety was buried deep within the folds of my dress and it took all I had not to clench and unclench it in stress.Alisa had fulfilled her part of the plan. She had found a way to discreetly lace the food that Herley was to eat tonight.“High Luna, we have to hurry. We're running out of time,” Lea whispered to me worried as she gently tugged on the edge of my dress. It was evening and nightfall was fast approaching. Herley had once again demanded that all the generals and granny show up at her room. The palace was tense and I could tell none of the generals particularly relished being ordered about by her. But the bottom line remained that she held all the strings and we had no choice but to dance like the puppets she wanted us to be.I was covered with a cloak and my thick locks had been braided backward like the palace maids. It had been relatively easy to get a

Chapter 106

Chapter 106Lea and I flew as quickly as we could down the hallway and over to my own chambers. As soon as we stepped into the bedroom, I threw off my cloak and began to pull off the servant's uniform I had on.Lea left briefly, and by the time I was down to my undethings, she had appeared with one of my dresses in her hand.“High Luna, are you really going to leave Madam Tee like that?” Lea asked me curiously as she unzipped my dress and helped me step into it without touching my skin.“I don't know, she seems like a trustworthy person,” I replied contemplating as I passed my arms through the sleeves of the dress.“Be that as it may. This is still a palace and no one is truly as they appear.I think you should take precautions. Just in case,” Lea said as she left my back and picked up a comb to comb out my hair.I adjusted my dress until I felt comfortable and tried my best to stay still as Lea began to quickly unbraid my hair from the single brand I had put it in down my back.“You'

Chapter 107

Chapter 107I stood there in outrage staring at Granny as she came up to us carrying the joining candle in her hands.“So what's your next big plan? Get married to my husband? I'll tell you right now. That's not possible,” I hissed at Herley in anger.“Oh, I know. I don't care about that for now. The joining candle can also be used for other things you know,” Herley said with a small chuckle.“Granny, tell her,” she nudges Granny with her good as Granny stopped in front of her and turned around to face me,”“Daciana, the candle can also be used for taking oaths. Because of how important it is, the implications of breaking a bond made by the joining candle are severe,” Granny replied.I was literally seething at this point.“Herley, this is ridiculous and unnecessary. We already agreed to your madness. What more do you want?” Arnou spoke up from behind meIn anger.“Oh, hush. Do you think I trust Daciana just because we share blood? No. In fact, I think she might try to pull some st

Chapter 108

Chapter 108“Herley stop this madness. It has gone on long enough!Do you even realize the woman you want to arrest is your queen?” Arnou yelled in anger.I stood blinking in complete confusion. The guards stood confused, looking between Alisa and Arnou.“Why is this even a topic of discussion? She has no right to command any guard in this palace.Do I need to remind you all that she’s still a criminal and deposed Lady?”I yelled at Arnou out of confusion. He kept silent and squeezed his hands into fists at his side.“Why are you quiet?! Say something!” I yelled at him again.I watched, surprised and angry as tears dropped from his eyes and he ran his hands through his hair in distress.“What’s wrong with all of you?! Why are you all so silent? She doesn’t have the right to order an arrest. This is ridiculous!” I yelled at Granny, Alisa, and the generals.None of them would meet my eye. They all stared at everything except me.I watched in outrage as the guards resumed moving toward m

Chapter 109

Chapter 109I stared at Nikkini protectively as she slept curled into a little ball by my side. The temptation to reduce her sentence was strong within me but I knew it wouldn’t do anything to help her.She needed this time apart to come to terms with the implications of what she had done and how it could have affected my life.I don’t think Eden knows that she’s pregnant. I have to admit, a tiny part of me thought I would be jealous that she was carrying the child I had always wanted. But all I felt was relief and gratefulness. If I had gotten pregnant and had a child for Eden, it would have just made it harder to leave that life behind and start this one with Arnou.I’m happy Arnou gets to be my first in everything.Earlier when I had noticed her stomach, I had gently asked Nikkini and she had confirmed that a new life was growing within her.I was still lost in my thought when I heard footsteps from far off coming closer.I sat up on the bed in anticipation. I had sent for Lea the

Chapter 110

Chapter 110I don't know what I expected to feel. Some miraculous strength in my legs? my scarred skin knitting back together? Or maybe even some sort of intern joy but what I don’t expect to feel was nothing.Absolutely nothing.I wrinkled my eyebrows and stared at Herley in confusion.“Is something supposed to happen?” I asked her, perplexed. She ignored me and placed her palms on both sides of my cheeks. The potion bottle fell from my hand and I screamed out in pain as the flesh beneath her palms began to burn.“Get away from me!” I screamed in agony as I tried to push her away from me.But she held steadfast onto me and began to chant in a loud voice.I got chills from her voice and got transported back in time to the last time I had heard her chant the spell that blocked my memory.“What are you doing!” I screamed in horror as I tried to pull her again.Tears streamed from my eyes as the generals came into the cell and held me down.I was on fire. Every cell they touched burned
