Chapter 71

It had been a long time since Felix had last been nervous. Waiting for two important women could do that to a person. He stood in a corner of the room twirling a glass of champagne. The first person he was waiting for was Eliza. There were surprisingly a lot of people named Eliza Callahan on the internet but after much searching, he had been able to find her. When he had hit send on the email that he had composed, he knew that in typical Eliza behavior, if she was going to respond to his invite, she wouldn’t do it with a semi-formal email but rather in person. Knowing her, she was going to choose the most dramatic way to make an appearance and if she was looking to be dramatic, Tech Town’s winter charity ball was the place to be. The second person he was waiting for was Cassie. They had both been busy ever those two weeks leading up to the winter ball that two of them had barely gotten glimpses of each other. Fuck whatever rubbish Preston had instilled in her brain while they were to

Chapter 72

“Are you having trouble sliding it in?” Felix asked, whispering in her ear.“No.” Cassie lied trying to steady her hand. They had managed to sneak out of the ball and book a room for themselves in the same hotel. This was it. They were going somewhere more private, just as Felix had suggested and just as she had agreed to. Throughout the entire ride in the elevator and during the short walk that they had taken on the corridor, Felix had continued to whisper lewd promises in her ear that had left her cheeks flushed and her toes curled. She wanted the soreness that would come after an encounter with him. She wanted him in her, on her, by her and under her. She wanted to choke on him and be choked by him. She wanted him.Maybe if she could just pull her attention away from Felix’s hardening length on her ass and his hand drawing abstract shapes on her inner thigh, she might just be able to concentrate just enough to slide the keycard and grant them access to the penthouse.“Do you need a

Felix woke up well before Cassie, his eyes flickering open to the stillness of the room. It was a bit past midnight but even without hearing the sounds coming from the ball downstairs, he knew that it was still ongoing. Events like that usually tended to go on well into the witching hour with some guests getting so drunk that they wouldn’t be unable to drive home and would have to book a room at the hotel. Once upon a time, Felix would have had to be present for every second of the winter ball, supervising proceedings and listening to bad jokes told be the already-tipsy bourgeoisie. With his mother out of his life, he was finally free to do as he pleased.Cassie lay beside him sleeping peacefully. Once again, she was before him in nothing but her golden body chain as he had managed to convince her not to don on the complimentary silk pajamas that the hotel had left for their use and join him naked on the bed. It wasn’t hard work convincing her as the pajama shirt would have never butt

Chapter 74

The ride to the hospital was tense and silent. Felix divided his attention between the road and checking on Cassie who was wringing her hand anxiously while absentmindedly staring out of the window. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease as he watched her. At the backseat, Eliza sat silently – which was more than odd for her – with her hands on her knees in a fruitless effort to prevent blood from getting on the car’s fancy interior. It took them less than ten minutes to get to the hospital but it felt like an eternity. When they finally arrived, they first thing that they noticed was that the hospital was so small, it was basically a clinic. It was an early Saturday morning in December and multiple cars were already present in the parking lot belonging to people who had hurt themselves doing something stupid while drunk the previous Friday night, people that had gotten into accidents on the slippery roads, people who had fallen through thin ice while skating and every other cate

Chapter 75

Cassie, Daniel, Felix and Eliza all turned their heads toward the nurse. He was dressed in blue scrubs and crocs and wore a worried expression on his face.Eliza let Felix grab the snacks that had tumbled out of the vending machine so that she wouldn’t stain it with any of Isabel’s blood and together, the two of them made their way to Cassie and Daniel who were already standing in front of the nurse.“All of us.” Cassie declared. “All of us are for Isabel. How is she doing? Is she alright? Is she conscious? Can we see her now?” She asked, each question tumbling out before the nurse could ever hope to answer the previous one.Felix placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Cassie, calm down. Let him talk.”“Isabel is still in surgery. The good news is that the bullet grazed a rib but it missed her heart and lungs, so she’s very lucky. The bad news is that the bullet hit a major blood vessel so she’s lost a lot of blood. We’re working as quickly as possible to try to get it out but sh

“I hope you’re proud of yourself, you fucking idiot.” Eliza mumbled.“Don’t be so hard on him.” Cassie pleaded, rubbing her fingers over Felix’s knuckles.Eliza scoffed. “That’s going to be hard considering how much of a fucking idiot he is. Next time, when a doctor asks if you’ve eaten, you don’t lie.”Felix groaned in response and took another spoon of the bland pudding the hospital had given him. He had donated a pint of blood for Isabel, meeting all the requirements of a donor except for the nutritional aspect. As a donor, he was expected to have eaten a healthy, low fat, iron rich meal at least two hours before donating blood but apart from chamomile tea and a bagel for breakfast – and Cassie’s pussy for dinner – he hadn’t eaten anything. So after donating blood, he had stood up and immediately fell flat on his face. As the outstanding relative that Eliza was, she had taken multiple pictures of him, passed out before she had attempted to help. Luckily, after his head had collided

Cassie stayed unmoving for a few seconds. “If this is a joke, Felix, I need you to stop.”“I’m not Eliza. I won’t joke about something that serious.” Felix stated.Eliza glared at him. “How rich? Your girlfriend’s house got burnt down and all you can do is take jabs at me. Fucking dip shit.”Cassie slowly lowered herself to a nearby plastic chair. “I don’t understand. This doesn’t make any sense. Why would anyone do this?” If she hadn’t gone to the ball with Felix, or if she had gone back home instead of spending the night with him at the hotel, she would have been burnt to a crisp. And not just her. Lily, Aaron and Snowflake too. “First Isabel gets shot and then my house gets set on fire…” She trailed off as she started to connect the dots. “Are they both connected? Do you think someone is out for us?”“There’s no way to be certain about that for sure but it seems like a possibility.” Felix said.“Oh my God.” Cassie croaked. Her eyes were open, but she wasn’t seeing anything in fron

Chapter 78

Isabel lay in the hospital bed with her head turned toward the window so that she could watch the sun rise. With the snowy weather outside, the sunlight was just barely managing to penetrate through, appearing as golden shards of light piercing out from fluffy grey clouds. It felt pleasing to look at something nice while her life was anything but. At the moment, looking at the sunrise was the only thing she could do that wouldn’t send her into a fit of panic.Shortly after Felix, Eliza, Cassie and the ICE officers had left the hospital the previous day, she had been visited by a police officer, Deputy Grayson. Isabel had known that it was the police’s job to investigate murder attempts but still, she had found it strange that they had thought it worth their while to try to figure out who had shot her. Wasn’t it another branch of the government that had come to her room just a couple of hours before, telling her how she was going to be deported? The police officers had given brief and

Chapter 79

It was a Christmas of firsts for both Felix and Cassie. For Felix, this was the first time that his house had ever been decorated for Christmas. In the past, he had put up a plastic miniature tree if he remembered and while Hazel had still been alive, she had put up a menorah for the December festivities. Now, the decorations started right from the gates to the mansion, with the pathway leading to the house lined with colorful reindeer figurines, giant candy canes and plastic snowmen. The house was decked in strings of flashing Christmas lights that Felix was certain would be visible from space. He had spared no expense in decking out his house in all the Christmas decorations that Cassie had requested. At first, she had been worried that they wouldn’t get any of the good decorations seeing as they had only started their Christmas shopping two days before Christmas but after he had gotten a Nordmann fir tree – the best type of tree for Christmas trees – flown in from Europe overnight,

Chapter 80

The beginning of the new year was the start of many new things. Cassie, the twins and Snowflake had all fully moved into Felix’s house, each adding their own form of personal touch to the place. The changes that came with all of them living together could be seen in the house and in their lives. Felix had had the closet in the mastered bedroom remodeled so that Cassie’s clothes would fit into it. The twins’ room that had once been blandly colored and sparsely decorated during their first nights there, had been transformed into an age appropriate setting, bursting with colors and toys for Aaron and Lily, complete with an enormous dog bed to accommodate Snowflake who had grown to the size of a baby pony and according to the vet, wasn’t even up to her full stature as a Tibetan Mastiff. To cater for the number of people that were now residing with him, Felix had gotten a car large enough to accommodate all of them at once comfortably. Eliza had harassed him about how whipped he was once s
