As he flipped through the yellowed old pages, he sat down on the neatly made bed and began to read, curiosity etched on his features. Don Carianno’s writing was in beautiful cursive. It looked like he took his time to scribble, dotting all his i's and crossing his t's. He flipped through the first pages, there was an entry about a new shipment, but it didn’t make sense. He could not decipher the code words. He flipped through a few more pages, and that was when he saw an entry about him. It read: "Ghost, that’s what we’re going to name him. He’s, after all, a Ghost."He pondered on the words, this was around the time they found him, and he had a vague memory of it. The story was that they found him washed up beside a beachside, in tattered clothing. His best guess was Darius and whoever he was in cahoots with had thrown him overboard. There was a new entry on the next page where Don Carianno admitted he had picked him to use as a scapegoat. He was a ghost, with no memory of his life,

Ghost stood in front of a small group of men, drawn from various cities in Italy. They owed him favors, their lives, and their unwavering loyalty. “You know what you have to do?” he asked rhetorically. “I don’t know how many are left...” He paused, swallowing hard. “But they are good men. Men who don’t deserve to die. Our mission is simple: first, a rescue mission, then a mission to eliminate the captors.” A twisted smile played on his lips. “Remember, bring all of my people back to me unharmed. Only then can you unleash hell.”Some of the men nodded in agreement.Ryder approached Ghost, leaning in to whisper, “Remind me again; why do we need them?”“Because it’s war,” Ghost replied quietly. “And in war, we need men to fight.”Ryder scratched his jaw, shaking his head. “I don’t know, doesn’t look much like a war to me,” he whispered back. “You and I could easily handle... the 8 or 9 men inside. We’ve dealt with more than this before.”Ghost shook his head. “None of these men have big

“She’s close, I can feel it,” Ghost said in a harsh whisper. His hawk-like eyes peered out of the car windows.Ryder glanced at him and nodded.Scar was sitting behind, still a little out of it, with bandages all over, but he insisted on coming along. He leaned closer, “But how can you tell? Does this have anything to do with your sharpened werewolf sense of smell? You know, like a dog’s?”Ryder shot him a glare. He backed away in surrender. It had been two days since Ghost had told him about being a wolf, and he was still having a hard time coming to terms with it. Ghost had been gracious enough to do the explaining and clarification up until now. Now, his face was set in a deep frown, his gaze fixated outside, staring at all the incoming vehicles, his heart beating loudly in his chest. They had managed to get information from one of Sergio’s men about Ciara’s whereabouts. According to his intel, she was supposed to be transported past 31st Main Street, where they were currently park

Suddenly, there was an uproar, and guns started firing at them. Ghost was taken by surprise. There were at least twenty men, with big guns slung over their shoulders, firing recklessly at them. Ghost’s men fired back, but they were severely outnumbered. They fired and slowly backed away. Passers-by were thrown into a frenzy. The police arrived at the scene, and it turned into a full-scale gun war. He grabbed her hand and pulled her with him, trying to avoid the flying bullets.Amidst the chaos, Ghost lost his grip on Ciara. Before he could turn around to react, he saw her being pulled away toward a large black van, a hand over her mouth. His eyes flashed red, he tried to get to her, but there was a lot of gunfire. He fisted his hands, his eyes slowly turned amber, and just when he was about to let go, he felt a grip on his shoulders. “Not today, Ghost,” Ryder whispered in a small voice to him.“They took her!” he yelled in response.“You’re a rogue wolf, you’re going to go completely

Ghost and Ryder were the first to arrive at the docks. It was deserted and dimly lit. Ghost was standing in one spot while Ryder was pacing up and down impatiently. Scar was glancing around, watching their backs.“Man, I know you’re losing it but you have to...”“If my wife and daughter are not returned to me in one piece, I swear on the goddess, the whole city will feel my wrath!” Ryder cut in angrily, his eyes blazing murderously.Ghost was rigid, the anger he felt coursing through his framed body. When Ryder had offered to come with him, he didn’t think in the slightest that something like this would happen. He didn’t think Ryder’s family would be on the line like this. Sergio had Ciara, Hara, and Blair, and there was absolutely nothing he could do but wait patiently. He couldn’t even go gun blazing into Sergio’s hideout, as that could hurt either one of them. His ears turned alert when he heard the car pull up from afar, he noticed Ryder’s ears and perked up. Scar looked between t

In a heartbeat, Ghost swung his arm towards Sergio and pressed the trigger. Sergio didn’t have time to react, his face was frozen in shock as the bullet sliced through the air and into his forehead. Before his men could react, Ghost pulled out another gun from inside his shirt and fired at them.Scar was firing from two guns from behind. Ryder leaped into the air and transformed into a wolf, tearing through the remaining men, ripping them apart. His paws with sharp claws sliced through the air as he sunk his teeth into the neck of one of the men, snuffing the life out of him instantly.Three other men emerged from behind the shadows, dragging Ciara, Hara, and Blair.Hara and Ciara exchanged a look, and on Hara’s cue, they elbowed the men in the groin. Ghost fired instantly, and Ryder jumped on the man holding Blair, knocking him off. He tossed him to the side, and Blair ran towards him, pulling him into a hug. He wiped her tear-stained cheeks with his nuzzle. Hara joined in on the gro

EpilogueCiara crouched below and peered into those sad grey eyes. She pulled at his cheeks playfully, "Asher, don’t you just look dashing?"He tugged at his bow-tie and began to whine.Hara walked by carrying a huge cake that shielded her face, "See Asher, Aunt Ciara thinks you look handsome in that shirt. I agree with her."Ciara chuckled. It had been more than a year and a few months since she moved back to the pack, and it was more than she expected it to be. She had felt so much raw pain when Ghost was driven away in that car. She didn’t have a clue of what she was supposed to do. It was just like the first time she ran away from the pack, confused, exhausted. She had known the pack all her life, grown up here, made friends here. Suddenly she had to run from it, from her safe haven, from everyone she knew. Somehow she had managed to pick up the pieces of her life, find some sort of balance, and then Italy happened. She lost her freedom, lost the reins over her life, lost her happ

Fading Echoes of DesireThe weather was nice and fair, especially after the heavy downpour the previous day. There was nothing to worry about as she made her way to the massive building belonging to one of the wealthiest bachelors in Texas, Ranya Windsor.Three years ago was the first time she had visited this place. She was in distress, desperately seeking a way to prevent her father from going to jail. She was troubled and extremely poor. But today, she held her head high, feeling a sense of belonging as her heels made resounding steps toward the receptionist. Despite being a law firm, the building felt more like a suite for people of high status.“Good morning, miss,” the blonde receptionist greeted, smiling sweetly at her. The last time she was here, the receptionist had a curt expression, unlike the friendly one now.“Good morning,” Calista replied, giving her a smile that lit up her face. “I have an appointment with Mr. Windsor.”The receptionist nodded and checked her system fo

Echoes of the Past“Ranya,” Vivian called impatiently. “I’m sorry, but I can’t refuse. Yang proposed to me, and you expect me to turn him down?”“Vivian, please,” Ranya begged, holding her wrist pleadingly. “I promised I would be so good to you. I would take over Father’s company if that would make you stay. You can’t leave me.”“And to think you thought I was leaving you because you were still struggling is annoying. I’m telling you this because I don’t want you to see it in the news. I love Yang, and I’m marrying him!”Her voice echoed in his head, especially the last word. Now she’s back, and he’s still hopelessly in love with her. The reason he couldn’t move on or open his heart to another was because of her. She had returned, making many promises never to leave.A slight knock on his door interrupted his thoughts. He turned slightly towards his secretary, who silently walked in and dropped a file on the table.“The prime minister booked an appointment, sir,” she announced, steppi
