Strange situations

Once they had both reached their lockers, Max grabbed his backpack out of the locker and zipped it up before placing it on his shoulders. He looked around the hallway for any sign of his friends, which seemed unlikely given that most students were still in class. After giving up trying to locate them, he turned to face her who was still standing by her locker, waiting for him. He approached her and gave her a small smile, although it looked a little forced to him."So… Where are we meeting everyone?" He asked awkwardly.Bex grinned widely and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close. "Don't worry! We all met up yesterday." She assured.Max chuckled quietly and patted her on the back. "Yeah, I know. But where were you last night?" He inquired curiously."Oh, uh…" she blushed. "We were hanging out. Sorry." She admitted sheepishly."It's okay. I totally understand. I'm the one who should be sorry, not you." Max insisted."No, it's fine. I mean, it's really late. Your parents must

They would get hurt!

Once the awkwardness between them had passed, Max picked up his fork and dug into the remains of his sandwich. However, the taste of the food didn't appeal to him anymore. Not even the smell was appealing. It tasted so disgusting to him. He pushed the tray away from him and put his elbow on the table in order to rest his chin on his fist. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, trying to block out everything else in the cafeteria for a minute. Suddenly he felt the presence of somebody else beside him. He opened his eyes and looked in the direction that the person was coming from. When he did look, his eyes widened in surprise. A girl who he hadn't seen in a very long time had appeared from behind the table next to him and was now standing next to his chair, staring at him intently. He could tell that she wanted something from him, but he remained completely unfazed."Hello, Max." The girl smiled.Max furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. He looked around the room and found that every

The million questions

Max shook his head as he stood up from his bed and walked over to his wardrobe. He picked out a plain white t shirt and black pants from his wardrobe and dressed himself quietly before walking downstairs towards the kitchen. He stopped dead in his tracks as soon as he entered the house. He felt a small pang of guilt when he realised that he was the reason for his mother's tears the other night. He felt guilty for crying over something as trivial as a sandwich. He also felt guilty about leaving her alone the way he had that morning, but he knew that it was for the best. He couldn't deal with being around her right now. At least, not yet. He walked over to the fridge and began rummaging through its contents. He grabbed a bag of chips and tossed it into the microwave, waiting until it started heating up. Once it had finished cooking, he took the chips out, poured some ice cubes into a glass before grabbing a spoon and heading back to the lounge room. His mother was sitting on the cou

Leave the pack!

It wasn't a question of whether or not he should admit his feelings. It was a question of whether or not he wanted to accept that feeling. So, he refused. Because it was too painful. He just couldn't let himself love her. And that's precisely why he needed to go out tonight. It wasn't because of the girl. It was because he was afraid. Too scary of making a stupid mistake like he used to do with everything else in his life. Afraid of allowing someone close to him to see that side of him that he tried his best to hide. Afraid of letting her see him weak. And more importantly, afraid of losing her. And that was precisely why he needed to go out tonight. He sighed heavily, resting his chin on top of his knees as his eyes roamed over the walls. It wasn't his fault that he was so lonely. It was the other guys' faults. He blamed them for forcing him to take part in these dumb parties every Friday. They had no idea that they were hurting him. It had become a ritual for him ever since th

We're finally go home

When he finally reached his apartment, he dropped his backpack and headed up the stairs two at a time. He burst through the door, slamming it behind him. He threw the key on his kitchen counter and then rushed past the kitchen into the living room. His mother was sitting on the sofa staring at a book on the coffee table. He ignored her and continued on into his bedroom. He slammed the door closed and then flopped down onto his bed. He pulled the blankets back and then buried his face into them, holding his breath as he tried to keep his sobs quiet. He closed his eyes, wishing that he could disappear completely from existence. Just disappear. He wished that he could forget everything. He wished that he could be as happy as everyone else seemed to be."Hey Max."The young boy opened his eyes and slowly sat up on the edge of his bed. He was lying facedown on his bed with his pillow pulled up to his forehead. He glanced over at his clock and noticed that it was almost 11:30 p.m. "Wha

Some similar experiences

Perhaps the reason why she was so understanding was because she'as had some similar experiences.Max sighed deeply. He knew that there was only one person who could help him now. He couldn't stay here in Utah anymore. He needed to leave. He needed to go somewhere where he didn't have to worry about being attacked by werewolves every night. Somewhere where the sun actually shined instead of shone at the expense of the light. Somewhere where the air wasn't constantly filled with dust and smoke. Somewhere where the sky wasn't always shrouded in black clouds. Where life was actually worth living. Where he could truly be free.He sighed deeply. This had to be what life would be like in there, he thought. This place would be better than here. Much better. He hoped that wherever he ended up, it would be far away from the werewolf. The sooner he found somewhere new and far away, the safer he would be. The sooner he found someone to live with, the safer he would be. And hopefully, with s

What makes you fear?

The lobby was almost empty. Only one person was sitting behind the reception desk, reading a book and sipping from an oversized mug of coffee. He looked up as Max entered and gave him an uneasy smile. "Hi."Max nodded his head and walked over to the elevator. Once he was in, he pressed the button for the tenth floor. "Good morning."The man replied with a polite 'good morning', although his voice sounded slightly strained. He then asked, "Are you ready to go?"Max nodded. "Yes."A few seconds later the doors opened and he stepped out onto the tenth floor. He began walking towards the end of the hall. A few people greeted him along the way. Some of them he recognized. Others he didn't. He nodded his head politely at them. They either nodded back or smiled faintly at him."Good morning, Mr. Anderson." One woman said.Max acknowledged her with a nod."Mr. Anderson, are you alright?" a younger girl called out.Max nodded once again. Although he was used to hearing questions of such nat

So many strangers

Once he found one of his shirts, he shrugged it on and moved to sit down on his desk chair. He placed his elbows on his knees and buried his hands beneath his chin. He stayed like that for quite some time until eventually he noticed something strange. He lifted his head and stared at the mirror hanging on the wall across from him, which showed the reflection of him sitting hunched forward on his chair. Slowly, he shifted his gaze from the reflection of himself to the door on the other side of the mirror. There, standing just next to the door, was Max's sister. She was dressed simply, just wearing jeans and a white tank top. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and she was smiling faintly at him, her expression clearly showing that she was worried. "Hey," she murmured softly. "You look tired."Max frowned. "I'm fine…"She chuckled a little and approached him. "Of course, you are. Just like every single day."She reached out and put her hand gently on top of his arm. "How are you hol

My little boy

He stood by the entryway of the kitchen, looking down at the floor. His mind kept coming back to the image of Max sitting alone in the bathroom. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have gotten that far. After staying silent for so long, the realization hit him like a slap in the face. Max wasn't the only one who was at fault for what happened that night. It wasn't entirely my fault, either, but it's definitely one of mine...and it shouldn't happen again. I should have known better. He clenched his fists and exhaled slowly. "This is so ridiculous…" he growled silently to himself. He rubbed his forehead, then turned and looked around the hallway, realizing that the only person who could possibly help him now would be his mom. She knew exactly what to do to fix things. She always seemed to know.As soon as he exited the house, he ran up the driveway towards her house, stopping only when he reached the porch steps. He waited patiently as he listened to the sounds of footsteps approachin

I feel awful

Even though he still felt a bit guilty about what happened last time they talked, he couldn't help but feel relieved that he was allowed to talk to her about it.She wrapped him in a tight hug and rested her head on top of his. After a few minutes of silence passed, she pulled away and patted his cheek lightly. "Why don't we go upstairs for lunch, hmm?"He nodded, wiping the stray tears that escaped from his eyes. They headed up the stairs together and sat down on the couch. She placed her plate of food on the table in front of them while he grabbed a fork, stabbing a piece of pasta. He swallowed hard as he brought it to his mouth, chewing slowly. When he finally swallowed, he spoke up."Mom…" he said softly. "About what I said…"She raised an eyebrow at him. "What about it?"He hesitated for a moment before continuing. "I'm sorry for yelling like that. I know you're worried about me. But…it's not your fault. This is something I need to work through myself."She hummed. "That doesn't
