Chapter 31. Saved the girl

"Unforgivable!"Spinning around to see the voice's source, I saw a young boy walking in our direction. The silence that fell was heavy and stifling. The boy was wearing a gray t-shirt, black hoodie, and sweatpants. His black hair was slightly ruffled as if he had just woken up from being asleep until he ceased at the corner and stared at me with ineffable fury."Maybe you're the killer!" he pointed to me, and that's honestly unethical to cast me a false accusation for such a thing I never did."Marco, stop that!" a woman with short hair called out, coming over to him, her arms outstretched to stop him from making sudden movements toward me."No! A killer deserves no sympathy!" his voice rose almost hysterically."Enough, Marco! She's not a killer!" Israel placed himself between Marco and me. "You're being tactless, and that's unforgivable. Gwen is the only silver werewolf who saved me from death and my sister. So please, don't make any filthy false accusation because she's too innocen

Chapter 32. Profound questions

The girl clapped her hands, coercing us to spin around, and we were both stunned when her younger self gradually changed into a man wearing a black suit and steampunk coat."I was right. You are the silver werewolf."Glancing at Israel, I heaved him an inquisitive look before we sprinted behind the tree to shift back into a human form.We strode toward the man, and I was about to speak when he lifted his hand and said, "You know who I am?" I felt my stomach sink as I glanced at Israel and saw he looked just as bewildered."I don't," I replied coldly. "You better introduce yourself now. But if it's unnecessary, then get out of our way.""Silly, you're too idiot of all the silver I've ever encountered." he laughed evilly, annoyed that my outburst exploded, and I lashed out. I caught the man off guard by punching him in the face, which made him infuriated. The momentary shock caused me to pause before I could catch my breath."Deserved," Israel remarked, chortling. We swiveled around an

Chapter 33. Welcome to Ladezco!

It took us thirty minutes to get on our way. We stopped in front of a tree house made of steel with a ladder leading up the roof to climb up and down. The tree house was surrounded by thick shrubbery, which gave it an eerie look despite there having lights and colorful decorations strung from the trees and dangling from the roof. There's a written word carved into a board right next to the door, along with signs like "Welcome to Ladezco.""I expected this place to give me an answer, and the information must be factual. I didn't expect so little," I said, looking around at the strange trees and bushes covered in flowers and leaves. "This place was built a long time ago. Your expectation is the same as mine.""That's good."We walked for several more seconds before we veered to the corner, finally able to enter the threshold.Several bookshelves with books stacked on top of each other were lined up against the walls. It was so lovely to see that they had been well cared for. I am sure

Chapter 34. The saddest reality

"For every family, only one member can be a silver werewolf, and the rest are ordinary. And if two or more than that exist, the last born in the family will die. And they saved you, Gwen. Your sister agreed to surrender her blood to the enemy with a promise to go far away, so she can never cure anyone and never let blood trickle down because if you did, it would haunt your sister. A promise is a promise."I couldn't speak. My breathing became labored, becoming hard and shallow. I never thought of this reality of being so cruel and unfair. I felt like crying. What could motivate such a thing to happen to innocent people? It was unthinkable that someone like me could be a curse despite the fact I'm too naive in the ways of everyone, and yet, in my mind, there is no escape from it, and the knowledge of it hurts."How did you know all about my family? A-and why they lied?" my voice cracked from holding back tears. There was a lump stuck in my throat. This made it almost impossible for me

Chapter 35. Her disappearance

Matt's POVA copious amount of apprehension is what I've been restraining ever since I found out that Gwen is missing.Searching for her unceasingly, I kept checking every corner and even Alpha's residence, hoping I could find her, but the search was unsuccessful. "This isn't right. Gwen won't gamble anything without asking my consent," I said as I paced back and forth in front of her parents. I'd been trying desperately to get clues as to where she could be hidden, but my efforts were in vain."Forgive me, Mr. and Mrs. Hareya, for not being able to watch her," I apologized to her parents. I diverted my gaze toward Filomena and gave her an apologetic stare."Don't blame yourself, Matt. This is not your fault, okay?" Mrs. Hareya replied gently with a pat on my shoulder. I was relieved but still upset by this situation."Mom is right, Matt. No one wants this to happen to Gwen. We'll get to the bottom of this mess, alright?" Sister Filomena said encouragingly."And the best way is to fi

Chapter 36. Unsuccessful search

"I know you two are best friends. So I'm pretty sure there is the reason why you deduce Israel might be the reason behind this. What makes you doubt him, Beta?"Feeling perturbed, I don't want to discuss these things with anyone, not even Omega, because the answer is too confidential for anyone's ears. My heart pounds in my chest at the thought of someone other than him knowing, and I have to suppress the need to run away from this conversation. Even though he is not looking at me right now, I can feel his gaze on the back of my head, which feels like digging into my soul. When I got intrepidity, I swiveled around. "Gwen is not just a friend to me, Omega. She's like my younger sister, and I cannot forgive myself if something happens to her." I took a deep breath and resumed, "I don't mean to blame Israel for all of this. I'm just trying to think of a possible reason why Gwen might suddenly disappear.""Well, you're right," he acquiesced. We continued walking into the forest until we a

Chapter 37. Tortured reality

"I expected that you've learned a lot of things from reading, although most of the factual information was not easy to decipher. Some were too hard to accept, yet there were still positive aspects as well," Hailey stated, her tone serious despite the smile tugging at her lips."Thank you for this opportunity," I said sincerely. "It was quite challenging to discover those things I never thought existed.""I'd be glad to serve and help you, Gwen." her eyes sparkled with kindness. "Your parents didn't tell you much about yourself?" she asked quietly but with no judgment."No, because I used to live in solitude with no friends to rely on, just love and tranquility from my family and my best friend. I've never asked my parents about myself because it wasn't important to me. And now that I am slowly learning more details about my identity and allowed to interact with others, I don't know if I want more of them."My answer was almost automatic yet honest, and Hailey nodded."You have to, Gwe

Chapter 38. The Silver Werewolf Lied

"Your best friend loves you more than a friend."I was speechless for about half a second before I recovered and said, "I have no time for any stupid stunt, Israel.""I know it's hard to believe my words, Gwen, but I am serious about this," he stated, compelling me to stand up."Seriously, Israel? I told you I have no time for this.""There were no lies in my words, Gwen." he looked directly into my eyes. "I would never lie to you.""Then why are you telling me this?""Because I'm guilty. Matt didn't want you to be with Alpha because he wants you for himself."It took a moment for those words to register in my brain. The disbelief that came to my face lasted for nearly three seconds. And when it dawned on me what he'd just told me, I laughed bitterly at the irony in his words."Are you seriously telling me that Matt, the guy who used to tell me he loved me more than anyone ever has, is fooling me?" I crossed my arms. "It's true. Matt loves me so much because we're best friends. And he

Chapter 39. Matt's first-time outburst

"I guess you're not aware how selfish you are right now," Matt said in a voice like uncontrollable thunder; his anger is palpable, however.Tears started to form at the corners of my eyes as I took a deep breath. My exhalation sounded more like a bummer in myself than something resembling a gasp or a sob, which wasn't surprising considering the tears starting to spill down my cheek came from folly. He was right; the selfishness in my action had wholly blinded me to the point I didn't realize I could hurt someone— not just someone out there but someone who has an impact on my life.I should have known better, I knew that people would eventually see the truth no matter what I did, but my stupidity had made me blind to it.After the briefest seconds of stillness in which we just stared at each other, I let go of the last remnants of hope, my shoulders sagging and my chest feeling so grave that my heart could barely pound."I'm sure you've learned a lot without me, and you enjoyed it." he

Chapter 40. His sentiment

“I hate it when you entertain another man.” Suddenly, I remembered Israel’s assertion about Matt’s sentiments toward me, but I quickly dismissed my thoughts. Matt is my best friend, and there’s no way he would be interested in me romantically. I didn’t think we could be more than friends. I don’t think so anyway. When I got the intrepidity to respond to him, I did so with a straight face. “You can’t expect me that. We have to find a way, and find Alpha Ace. I have to think the best way to preserve all your life, Matt. And of course, it requires me to seek answer. I can’t do it alone.” One of his brows quirked upward skeptically. “What sort of answer?” he stepped closer, and his voice took a deeper timbre. “Yes. I need to find an answer,” I replied, swallowed hard. “The Mother of Silver Werewolves showed up last time and warned me. The more I divulged my identity, the more danger we are in, especially my sister.” His eyes morphed into stormy black, and his jaw clenched. Even witho
