Chapter 61

The following evening, I was walking down the hallway prepared to meet up with Haze and the other guys. We were instructed by Anthony to stay at the warehouse overnight and carry out more investigation to find the traitor in our midst. As soon as I spotted Alma coming from afar, I hid behind a large pillar. Alma had completely changed and I needed to know what's going on with her. Alma reached the double door leading to the library, she first looked around the hallway hoping that no one was coming or watching her then she entered inside, quietly closing the door shut.“What is she up to?” I whispered to myself. “I must find out” I tiptoed to the door but was hesitant to push it open. “What if she hears me come in?” I wondered, then I returned back to where I was hiding, I decided to go in after she had come out.Less than five minutes later, Alma quietly came out of the library like nothing happened. As I walked to the door again, my phone chimed, I opened it up and saw it was a messa

Chapter 62

The following day…My heart raced as I rushed down the hallway, I needed to tell Alexa what I had found about her mother. When I got to the door leading to Alexa's room, I didn't bother knocking, I flung the door open.“Alexa you won't believe what I …” I froze as I took in the scene before me.Alexa was at her dresser, gently folding her clothes and placing them into a suitcase which was laid open on her bed. “Alexa what are you doing?” I asked curiously.“I'm packing” she said simply without bothering to look at me. “I'm leaving with Warren tonight”.“You can't be serious Alexa” I said, moving closer to her. “You're really going to do this? I thought you weren't gonna proceed with this anymore”“I have to Jacqueline, it's the only way” Alexa placed a nearly folded blouse in the suitcase “I wasn't able to leave earlier as planned because of the chaos happening but I can't stay anymore Jacqueline.. now is the right time to leave”“You can't just leave Alexa .. have you thought about

Chapter 63

I felt my heart pounding as Lorenzo and his men arrived at the airport. They were dressed in all black holding guns in their hands. Some people ran away at the sight of us while some watched in fear. We passed through the terminal, our footsteps echoing loudly. The security guard didn't dare to stop us as we passed through the security gate which beeped loudly, everyone was scared for their lives.Lorenzo was in front of us, his expression was cold and filled with fury, beside him was Alex and Anthony whose face was stern, ready to personally deal with Alexa. Amongst the other men who followed close behind were Raphael, Dante, Cheyenne and Haze.“Fucking son of a bitch!” Lorenzo growled as he spotted Alexa and Warren near the security gate, standing close to each other.“Alexa!!” Anthony yelled across the terminal, making more people stop and turn to look. Alexa froze as she saw us, her hand clutching Warren's arm tightly. I could see the fear in Warren. He looked around the airport

Chapter 64

The following day…I reluctantly followed Lorenzo down the stairs leading to the basement in the warehouse. We entered one of the rooms in the basement, I remember this one very well. This was where I held the night I caught lurking around the matrix warehouse. The dried blood stains on the floor and the walls, the single flickering bulb that did a terrible job in illuminating the room, the tiny bed that could fit only a toddler and of course the stupid bucket to ease yourselves. This room was capable of giving someone nightmares, it was traumatizing.Warren was bound to a metal chair in the center of the room. His face was swollen, covered in blood, one of his eyes was so swollen that it could barely open up. Warren groaned softly, his head hanging low as blood dripped from his mouth onto his torn shirt, his breaths were shallow.Lorenzo stood in front of him, his expression was unreadable but his eyes were filled with coldness.“You picked the wrong family to cross Warren. You reall

Chapter 65

“There's nothing I can do in regards to Warren. He betrayed me” Alonso voice spoke from the other side of the phone “Uncle please… he was just a man in love.. there has to be something” I spoke in a hush manner sitting on the closed toilet seat “You know calling me for this situation is pointless right? I would gladly give Lorenzo a grenade to blow up Warren” Alonso spoke with zero emotion“Warren has been loyal to you.. he just fell in love” I spoke. Why was I even trying to convince my uncle? I wondered after spitting that line from my mouth. Maybe I wanted to ease my guilt from betraying the one person that trusted me enough to share her secret in the Matrix. “Love? That shit is for weakasses” Alonso scoffed “Says the man who later married his first love” I rolled my eyes.“I didn't betray my family for a woman. Don't ever call me for this…” Alonso hung up.“Jerk!” I angrily stood up from the toilet. “Warren will be free at the right time” I muttered. I may be heartless for sn

Chapter 66

The following night, the Mansion felt unusually quiet, like the calm before a storm. I was walking through the darkened hallways, bitterness boiling under my skin. I don't know why I couldn't help the images of Lorenzo's engagement to Cheyenne playing in my mind. The memories twisted like a knife in my chest. After everything we had shared, the laughs, the late nights, the trip to France, the intimate moments yet he couldn't let me in to share his problems with me instead he agreed to be with her, meaning he actually never cared… it been months but it felt like it happened just yesterday.“Ugh!” I groaned, I hated the fact I couldn't control the thought of Lorenzo, Love wasn't meant to be part of this plan. And yet, here I was, trying to reconcile the hurt in my chest but at the same time I was satisfied with my plans falling in lines especially that of Cheyenne, she would learn I'm not one to be messed with, she wants to kill me and I promised to give her something more painful than

Chapter 67

I had just started to drift back to sleep when an abrupt, booming shout jolted me awake.“WHERE IS SHE?!!!”I sat upright on the bed, my mind racing. It was unmistakably Anthony's voice, and from the tone of it, something had gone very wrong. I quickly tiptoed to the door, I hadn't expected him to discover Alma's disappearance so soon, I mean it was just few minutes past five in the morning.I hurried down the grand staircase, keeping my expression carefully composed, letting the fatigue of the early hour mask any hidden guilt. I had to play this carefully, any slip of expression could give away the secret Alexa and I had guarded. I was nearly at the bottom of the stairs when I noticed the others filtering into the living room. Alexa, still in her pajamas, her hair tousled from sleep, was already there, her face a perfect mask of confusion and worry. Cheyenne, in a plain singlet and short, crossed her arms tightly, irritation visible on her face, to be disturbed this early and likely

Chapter 68

The air in Lorenzo's office at the warehouse felt thick with tension. Four of us were crammed in here: Lorenzo, Alex, Haze and me. It was almost midnight, we were all here because of Anthony's command to search for his wife, Alma. Haze and I pretended to be helping but we were actually throwing them off Alma's trail without arousing suspicion.Lorenzo sat behind his desk, flipping through files and maps of our known properties and safe houses while Alex paced restlessly by the door, his agitation barely masked. I shot a quick glance at Haze, who was leaning against the wall, quietly observing everything with a look of carefully controlled calm. I could tell he was just as tense as I was.“Lorenzo, this is pointless,” Alex snapped, breaking the silence. He glared at his older brother, his eyes filled with frustration. “We’ve gone over these places a hundred times. She’s not there. And if she’s not in one of our properties, where the hell else could she be?”Lorenzo didn’t even look up.

Chapter 69

Lorenzo's POV: I ran a hand down my face, trying to steady myself as I waited outside Jacqueline’s room. My fists were clenched tightly at my sides, as if holding back the anger, the guilt, the fear that had crept up since the moment Alex’s bullet hit her. She was lying in there, still and lifeless, and every second that passed chipped away at whatever control I thought I had left.A middle-aged man in a white coat who apparently is the doctor, finally appeared in front of me. His face was neutral, almost too calm, like he’d given this kind of news too many times. I hated him for it. He hadn’t even spoken, and already I wanted to wring his neck for not feeling the urgency of the situation.“Mr. Hernandez?” His voice was low, cautious, and every syllable he uttered filled me with dread.I nodded sharply. “How is she?”He took a moment, too long, and I felt impatience clawing at me. Finally, he said, “Her injuries are more serious than we initially thought. The bullet caused significan

Chapter 70

Lorenzo's POV:The past few days had been a blur, everything eclipsed by Jacqueline’s condition. I’d barely left the hospital, only coming to the warehouse because of Anthony's order… finding my mother, finding the traitor, interrogating and torturing Warren, trying to recover our losses as we're on the edge of bankruptcy… I felt overwhelmed but none of it mattered to me, all I cared about was Jacqueline's recoveryAlex knocked on the door to my office in the warehouse and stepped inside, his face shadowed with guilt and regret. He didn’t look like himself – the arrogance, the anger, all of it was gone. His shoulders were hunched, his eyes flickering between the floor and me as he moved further into the room.“Lorenzo…” His voice was low, unsteady, unlike anything I’d ever heard from him.I watched him carefully, my own feelings walled behind a stony expression. There was so much anger boiling beneath the surface, but it wasn’t just anger, It was hurt. I was tired – tired of his reck
