Chapter 71: DEVON

So while she played with the water and kicked at the sand, I remained on high alert. She pulled out of my hand and walked ankle deep into the water and I didn't think anything of the look she gave me, until I got a face full of water. The shit was so surprising I just stood there with my mouth hanging open. And then she laughed and my whole body came alive. She had one of those laughs that make you want to laugh with her. "Oh so you think that's funny huh?" She squealed and tried to escape when I cupped my hands in the water and went after her. "No Devon, don't wet my hair." Holy shit, she's a siren. She gave me the most innocent pouty-faced look as she said this, but it was the light in her eyes that gave her away. "Too bad!" I let her have it and she howled with laughter before taking off again. I caught up with her and lifted her in the air. She stretched out her arms and pointed her toes like a ballerina and I just stood there with her held

Chapter 72: DEVON

We'd tried to talk the others into staying back on the island just in case shit got dicey, but none of them would budge. Lyon had no qualms about pulling the trigger if it came to that and Mancini, well, who knows what his deal is. But it was Justice and Law I was more worried about. Both of them still had one foot in the military. But they too insisted on coming along. "Do you know how I knew my girl was in trouble Devon?" "Law's woman told him because one of her girls told her and he called me. Had it not been for that phone call I don't know what would've happened to her." "This is what we do, we stick together. And those women, we lucked the fuck out there too. So if we have to do this to make their lives safer, then it's on all of us. Not just you." "I appreciate it Creed." I guess the ball was in my court now since they'd all decided that she was mine regardless of what I say. Ty the ass had seen us on the beach together and earlier this evening

It wasn't easy leaving her again, but Dani assured me that she was going to make sure she had fun while I was gone. After our time on the cliffs I dropped her off in the media room with the women, which seemed to be their favorite hangout spot. Even though Mancini had convinced us that this place was safe and secure, none of us, including him, were okay with the women and kids hanging around outside for too long. That left us with another problem though, one we found waiting for us in Mancini's private rooms. "How did she get in?" Hank whispered out the side of his mouth as the rest of us looked over his shoulder at the intruder. "Where's Lyon?" Law looked back down the hall. "Not sure, last I saw he was harassing his wife while she was putting the baby to sleep." Con whispered the answer as we watched Lyon's little girl snoop around the highly secure room. "I'm beginning to see why her father thinks the way he does. Hello Catalina, may I help

Now here we are staking out yet another house in the dark while the women waited back on the island. "So the SEALs are going in while the rest of us surround the perimeter. There's no one in there except the target, the wife is not expected back until late tomorrow, and the staff has already gone." Mancini sent his people off to get into place before turning back to us. "He's in his study having his last cigar and cognac of the evening." He pulled that shit up on his handheld and we saw the general sitting in a smoking chair puffing on a cigar. "We could just take him out through the window and no one will ever know." "But then we won't get the answers we need Tyler and don't fucking start again." "Sure we can Lo. We can take his comp, and his phone, there's bound to be something there." "What if there isn't? Now cut the shit and let's go." After Ty and Lo got through with their scuffle Quinn disengaged the security and Cord picke

Chapter 75: DEVON

No one spoke of it on the plane ride back but we were all thinking about what the hell the headlines were going to say tomorrow. The women and children were long in bed by the time we made it back to the island but we were too pumped to sleep. We finally had a place to start in our search for Khalil. "So he's in Doha." Mancini passed around bottles of water as we took up our usual spots in his private room. "At least it's a smaller search area than some of his other hideouts, but I wonder what he's doing there. That's not on his list." "It's only an hour and a half from there to Saudi Arabia. Is he about to make some sorta move?" "If you're talking about him going after the old king Quinn I doubt it. There aren't many who'd risk it and I don't think your guy is that stupid." "What the fuck are you people talking about? The desert?" "Yes Lyon the desert." "We're gonna need someone on the ground..." Lo started speaking but Mancini

Chapter 76: DEVON

"Welllllll. Ariel came running, mommy asked her what's wrong?" She twirled her eyes up like she was thinking really hard. "Uncle Devon doesn't like her. Aunty Gaby's gonna kill uncle Devon annnndd aunty Cierra has a plan." "You get anything outta that Dev?" Lyon dismissed her and she went scurrying into the house probably to eavesdrop on the women. "Yeah, I get it." "So what did you do and you better have a way to fix it because I'm not too jazzed about my woman giving me the cold shoulder because of one of you fuck-ups." "Suck it Ty." I put down the coffee cup and rested my head in my hands. I wanted to go find her and explain but what was I going to say? That I'm afraid, that I don't know how long I'll have her once the threat was eliminated and her father decided he wanted her back? "What's the problem Devon?" "There's no problem Cord." I gave him the shut the hell up look. No way am I having this discussion in front of everyon

Chapter 77: DEVON

She's not talking to me, well that's not exactly true. She did say 'I'm okay Devon you don't have to worry about me' before disappearing behind the bedroom door and shutting me out. If I didn't have to hunt down the madman that was after her I would've taken the time to explain to her but time was of the essence. It hurt like fuck that she wouldn't even sit next to me at lunch and then again at dinner, but it was for the best. The next day things were a little less stressed. She was back to smiling, but at everyone else but me, and the women were all in a flutter because of some party they were planning, so I was spared the dirty looks. "Okay my source tells me your guy is indeed in Doha but I don't have eyes on him yet. It might take a couple days so why don't we spend some time with our women before they mutiny. I think Devon set off some kinda storm and now all our asses are on the line." "Thanks for putting that shit on me Mancini but you freaks w

Chapter 78: QUINN

"Whoa bro, so why don't you talk to her?" I stepped back from the look he threw me. "Just a suggestion brother." I smirked over his shoulder at Tyler who was acting the damn fool and tried not to laugh because he was rolling his eyes behind Dev's back the way I'd seen Dani or Gaby do with their men. I didn't pay too much attention when I heard the women hooting and hollering, they're always carrying on about something and it being their first time out anywhere I'm sure they were ready to cut loose. The tempo of the music changed from some slow island melody to something a bit more upbeat. "Dev?" What the fuck's wrong with him now? He'd gone from a relaxed pose to standing on guard, kinda like when a dog's hair stands up on its back. His gaze was focused somewhere over my shoulder in the general direction of the women and I turned to look to see what could possibly have his panties in a twist. "Oh shit!" Ariel was in the middle of the dance floor and t

Chapter 79: KELLY

"I told you it would work." I high fived the others including Ariel even though she still looked like she was in shock. I took a quick peek at the guys and toned it down a bit; they were not amused. Oh well! "So, our next move, you're going to completely ignore him." "I don't know Kelly." Dana-Sue took a sip of her juice and looked back at her man before turning around again. "Law has that look on his face, the one he always gets when I let Melissa talk me into doing something stupid." "Hey, my ideas are never stupid. If these cavemen weren't so damn secretive and heavy handed we wouldn't have to go to these lengths. Do you want to know when is the last time I was allowed off the ranch? A damn year ago almost." "Oh crap, we've only been sequestered a few months but if that shit goes on much longer I'm gonna revolt." "And Logan will lock your ass away somewhere for good." "Oh come on Vanessa, you can't tell me you're not going stark ravin

Chapter 80: KELLY

Their antics are helping me to overcome whatever lingering fear I might've had because in the real world I should be hiding away somewhere afraid to leave the house. And at night, when I'm in bed with Quinn, after he's melted my bones, and I drift off to sleep with his scent in my nose and the feel of his strong capable arms wrapped protectively around me, his whispered 'I love yous' makes me feel like anything is possible. I feel like I'm living in a dream and we haven't even touched the surface of anything resembling a relationship yet. But somehow I feel in my very core that this is real. Each time I have a doubt I only have to turn to any one of the women here for some reassurance. Their own story gives me hope, especially Kat, whose relationship is the oldest. I watch the men with their women and can see the love and adoration with my own two eyes, my daddy taught me how to read people. And if all these couples were lying they should be on a Broadway st
